I'll see if I can fix this problem. What version of LMS are you using?

Yes there is a way.

If you got a USB DAC connected via camera connection kit adapter even
iOS/iTunes passes your 24/96 material to the USB out. You need to
enable that streaming via apple home-sharing.

That's been proven.

See also
http://www.benchmarkmedia.com/discuss/feedback/newsletter/2011/06/1/ipad-streams-high-resolution-audio-dac1

If you stay inside the iPad we look at the known SR limitations.

If used as a transport via USB 24/96 works.

Perhaps you could check that out. The OSX usb-audio driver obviously
supports it.

If you'd check if there is an usb-audio device connected to the
iPad/iPhone you might route the traffic there. ( not sure if there is a

similar handling of interfaces in OSX as it is in Linux (see plug vs.
hw)
Perhaps it would be nice to have an option in the settings menu.

It might be the case that you completely pass by the iPad audio engine
if feeding the USB device. The good thing about it would be a bit
transparent transport at hand. Not even that Touch manages that.

I'll checkout plugplayer tonight. It might be an alternative solution
to iPeng for the time being.

The pity doing it the Apple home-share way is that you can't run flacs.

It would be great to have iPeng supporting above.

Cheers

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2012-04-03 Thread EvilWhistler

Hi Pippin, thanks for your response.

It's a 2G iPod Touch running iOS 4. LMS is installed on a Windows PC.

Yes, the 'blank CD' icon is only for iPeng playback through the iPod.
If I select the iPod as my player when using the LMS screen on the
computer then the album art displays correctly there too. If I am
playing through the SB there seems to be no issue with the artwork
displaying on the SB Radio or on the LMS browser.

Most of my music is stored as flac files on the computer, and it is all
tagged and has art embedded as well as having a folder.jpg file in the
relevant folder. If I browse by artist or album on the iPod then the
art thumbnails display correctly, but the moment I select music to play
the main screen reverts to the blank CD icon.

Regarding iTunes, although I have it installed on the computer I have
integration with LMS deselected. In fact I've never had integration
selected as I've never much cared for iTunes.

Thanks for looking into this. I appreciate such problems are a puzzle
when they are on someone else's system that you can't see, and if it
can't be fixed it certainly isn't going to stop me using iPeng! The
artwork seems to be an example of not realising how much you miss
something until it's gone...

 difficult.

I might.
If I had a device for this, I would check what kind of hardware sample
rates you can get from iOS (you can query that) but everything I've
seen so far (it's not like that's really documented anywhere) tells me
that iOS only supports up to 48 kHz. I also only see 16 bit samples.

Perhaps there's just a little parameter to change somewhere from an
 iPeng perspective.

Definitely not.
It might be just a small parameter if you use the iOS audio player, but
then you lose gapless, flac, ogg, synchronization and generally you
can't use the Squeezebox' streaming protocol.
Especially getting the synchronization to work correctly in a
multithreading environment requires you to use the Audio Unit Graph and
if that involves using iOS' audio engine, that's what iPeng will always
do, we are not going to implement an additional audio path for
RemoteIO.

I know that you can set a sample rate to use with the AU Graph but I
don't know what you can set here and how easy a change it would be to
detect and support external hardware. Will have to talk to James about
it but given the fact that even now sync is difficult from a timing
perspective when run in the background I suspect he won't be too
enthusiastic.
And if I have to trade battery life against support for HD DACs
(because we would have to disable the power-saving background mode),
I'd go for the battery life.

BTW: The touch does provide bit-perfect output up to 24/96, don't know
what you meant with that comment.

I am 100% sure that I was using the official Spotify app because when I
update LMS on a ReadyNas I have do uninstall LMS and run a Squeezeclean

will not work and have never worked believe me

You can have both the official and third party plugin installed at the
same time and they will interact somehow ( never tried as I use the
unofficial plugin ) .

But triodes plugin is generally better anyway so just install it again
if you wiped it duringnthe reinstall ?

Btw this was probably the last time you had to do the cleaning routine
for the ready NAS, in the future you just install over the old one and
don't loose settings ( just like on any other platform )

Just want to say thanks, got my new iPad today and the album view in
iPeng for iPad looks amazing on the new retina screen. The full screen
now playing view didn't improve that much due to low resolution on my
album art but the 4x3 album view looks a lot better on the new iPad.
Feels like the 4x3 view really is optimal in size for my album art
quality, the improvement was a lot more visible in this view than when
I use smaller or larger album art.

I think I'll wait a bit before starting to searching for high quality
album art, maybe the big Now Playing screen isn't an issue since it's
mostly used when I'm a bit away from the iPad.

Thanks!

Yes, I feel the same about the scale.
And also, that the size is now big enough to really even make scaling
up the covers useful. Before they quickly got blurry when you scaled
them up since the actual cover size stays the same even when you zoom
in on that screen but now it still looks good even at a 3x2 scale and
even the 2x2 with the maximum scale factor would be OK (after all, it
still gives you the same resolution as iPad 1/2!) If I wouldn't
already notice there how much of my artwork actually even has a lower
resolution than 300x300!

[image:
http://penguinlovesmusic.de/wp-content/gallery/ipeng4ipadretina/img_0206.jpg]

I've already started to gather artwork as big as I can get it long ago
but it's only now when you really notice how hard it actually is, to
get it.

Maybe the new iPad helps, all MOG artwork, for example, is available
with up to 768x768 pixels, that's a start.

Ummh, what is this
I've never seen a message like that.
Is your iPad jailbroken? Probably not if it's a 3.
Did you install the App using iTunes? It sounds a bit like you are not
logged into the account you used for the purchase of the iPhone App.

Did you use the same iTunes account as for the original purchase?

You did try to restore the playback feature in iPeng for iPhone on the
iPad and it also did not work? Just installing isn't enough, the
problem is, that you can't share the same In-App-Purchase between
different Apps so you need to do the restore wherever you did the
original purchase.

You did purchase the playback and were not one of the few who used the
original, completely free scheme (when you owned both Apps) that used a
code you had to enter? That doesn't work anymore since some Apple did,
probably iOS 4.3, in this case you would unfortunately have to purchase
the playback, which should be $1 in your case (for the discounted one),
make sure to watch the price mentioned in the Enable Playback dialog.
