Yes there is a way. If you got a USB DAC connected via camera connection kit adapter even iOS/iTunes passes your 24/96 material to the USB out. You need to enable that streaming via apple home-sharing. That's been proven. See also http://www.benchmarkmedia.com/discuss/feedback/newsletter/2011/06/1/ipad-streams-high-resolution-audio-dac1 If you stay inside the iPad we look at the known SR limitations. If used as a transport via USB 24/96 works. Perhaps you could check that out. The OSX usb-audio driver obviously supports it. If you'd check if there is an usb-audio device connected to the iPad/iPhone you might route the traffic there. ( not sure if there is a similar handling of interfaces in OSX as it is in Linux (see plug vs. hw) Perhaps it would be nice to have an option in the settings menu. It might be the case that you completely pass by the iPad audio engine if feeding the USB device. The good thing about it would be a bit transparent transport at hand. Not even that Touch manages that. I'll checkout plugplayer tonight. It might be an alternative solution to iPeng for the time being. The pity doing it the Apple home-share way is that you can't run flacs. It would be great to have iPeng supporting above.
