This just posted on recivarefuge: Code: It's the end of an era: we must, with great regret, switch off BBC ondemand for Reciva-based devices on Thursday 26th Feb. The roll-in will start with the cessation of updates tomorrow morning, and the options will slowly disappear from radios during the following 24-48 hours. This is not something we are doing lightly. The BBC has moved all ondemand provision to HLS-wrapped AAC, which is a format developed after most legacy radios shipped. This is completely outside of Reciva's control. I cannot give details on CSR's commercial discussions, but I can say that we are in active dialogue with manufacturers about potential firmware upgrades to re-introduce BBC ondemand on devices which could accept a firmware upgrade. If you would like more information on this, you will need to speak to your radio's manufaturer as Reciva/CSR are unable to help with any enquiries regarding this. Live streams will still be available for all stations for the forseeable future. The possible exception is BBC Radio Five and it's sister sports channel - as these channels mainly broadcast live sport, which the BBC does not have international broadcasting rights for, these streams are often blanked out. Don't forget that podcasts will still be available - and even though they are not whole shows (music is often redacted) they usually give the main content of the programme. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Available HLS Streams
I hope tfec doesn't mind me reposting the list of BBC HLS streams (as we know them) but I thought it would be useful to have all the relevant information in one place. The live HLS streams are available from two servers: Akamai and Limelight. The following is the list for the 320 kbps (AAC-LC) streams from the Akamai server. It is the same as those in bonze's menu.opml apart from the World Service, which I haven't included To change to the Limelight server, replace /ak/ with /llnw/ To change the bitrate of the stream replace /sbr_high/ with: /sbr_high/ = 320kbps (AAC-LC) /sbr_med/ = 128kbps (AAC-LC) /sbr_low/ = 96kbps (HE-AAC) /sbr_vlow/ = 48kbps (HE-AAC) For non-UK listeners: replace /uk/ with /nonuk/ and replace /sbr_high/ with /sbr_low/ or /sbr_vlow/ Code: http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_one.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_1xtra.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_two.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_three.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_fourfm.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_fourlw.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_four_extra.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_five_live.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_five_live_sports_extra.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_6music.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_asian_network.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_scotland_fm.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_scotland_mw.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_nan_gaidheal.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_ulster.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_foyle.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_wales_fm.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_cymru.m3u8 Local Radio: http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_berkshire.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_bristol.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_cambridge.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_cornwall.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_coventry_warwickshire.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_cumbria.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_derby.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_devon.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_essex.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_gloucestershire.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_guernsey.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_hereford_worcester.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_humberside.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_jersey.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_kent.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_lancashire.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_leeds.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_leicester.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_lincolnshire.m3u8 http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_london.m3u8

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: PlayHLS Plugin - plugin to play Apple HLS m3u8 stream
I've been looking into why avconv/ffmpeg doesn't stop after playing the HLS stream, and have discovered that it's a problem with the servers' handling of SIGPIPE. The server sets the IGNORE flag on the pipe trap, and the POSIX spec requires the flag to be inherited by any child processes. This is what causes the problem with avconv (some versions of) ffmpeg, as they never see the SIGPIPE when their output is closed. I've patched the trap code in /usr/share/perl5/Slim/bootstrap.pm (7.8.0 build) to use a local function to ignore SIGPIPE and this does not effect any child processes. I've run this patch for a day or so, and it all works correctly for me using avconv as the converter. It needs more testing, but looks good so far. Here's the patch if anyone wants to give it a try. Please let me know if you do, all feedback welcome ;) I'm running 7.8.0 on debian stable. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: PlayHLS Plugin - plugin to play Apple HLS m3u8 stream
Hi, I have been following the discussions on the problems with using BPA's plugin on a Synology Nas using the Armada 370 ARM processor, as I have been having the same problem. Before I risked trying BPA's solution on the Synology DS213J NAS I tried the update out on a copy of LMS I still had on my PC and it worked a treat. It also taught me how to do it and what to look for in getting it working. When I put it on the NAS, I fell straight into the 3 second time out and the Can't open file error message. Since then I have tried all the ideas put forward by BPA, without sucess. Also I have tried many of my own as I have some Linux knowledge but I am by no means an expert, all to no avail. I cannot decide if this is a permissions problem, and I have tried all the ways I know to get round this, or if LMS cannot actually find the output file. So getting a new version of ffmpeg seemed the only option. Having exhausted all avenues of getting a precompiled version of ffmpeg for the ARM V7 processor it was obvious compiling my own looked to be the only option. Doing this on the Synology version of Linux installed on the NAS did not look attractive so I used the Debian-Chroot option. Using the instructions in post 377 from Krisbee (many thanks) I did this, although the compilation took for ever and generated lots of warnings I ended up with a new executable ffmpeg binary that would run on my Armada 370 ARM V7 processor. I renamed the Synology ffmpeg in the /usr/syno/bin directory to ffmpeg.old, copied my all new ffmpeg binary from the debian directory, restarted LMS and it worked first time, a result. Not a staright forward task for anyone with no Lunix experience at all, but doable with the limited amount I have. Well worth a try for anyone else with this problem who is prepared to have a go and take a risk. Flysurfer Thank you and Truehl for the combination of his squeezeplug and your max2play. I have just got a Raspberry PI 2, not yet upacked, and would like to install the new package on the system. From reading your instructions on your web site it appears that all I need to do is extract the NOOBS image from your website and put it on my existing NOOBS SD card. Do I keep the existing NOOBS system on the card, and if so does it matter in which directory I put your max2play image? If I have my NOOBS system up and running already how do I add the max2play image to it? Assuming I get it working, is ffmpeg automatically installed in this image so that I can access the HLS streams via bpa's plugin? The issue now is when and whether the BBC will switch off the existing AAC/RTMP streams, and when and whether they will tell us where AAC/HLS streams are. Any thoughts from Triode on all this? Windows Phone is based on the Windows NT kernel which is multi-tasking and certainly can run apps in the background. Going forward with Windows Phone 10 you will have the ability to run universal apps that will run on the Desktop, Tablets, and Phones. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: PlayHLS Plugin - plugin to play Apple HLS m3u8 stream
I managed to get through to someone at Musical Fidelity. They only built one Internet Radio, the M1 CLiC, about 5 years ago, but it is no longer in production. It supports compressed live aac and wma, plus 'listen again' streams. Suffice to say their technical people say they have never heard from the BBC about any of this and so have no plans to upgrade their firmware. That means it will only directly support live stations, and those only in mp3 until that service is switched off. Bu**er. However, I'm OK for live listening, thanks to people here (and at minimserver), and a marginally OK FM signal (through that most up-to-date piece of kit - a Quad FM3 and the biggest aerial I could find). For listen-again I'm hoping a solution can be found here, but I'm very unclear on what is really happening. I gather WMA is being stopped now. If I use the BBC iPlayer plugin some 'listen again' streams show as being 128kbps CBR, aac, some as 320kbps CBR, aac. Does anyone know if these streams are being stopped now or not? Lookout for things like Microsoft email and calendar apps to be featured on the next Galaxy 6 phone that many already consider the best of their class apps. It is not misinformed, please study the Windows Phone SDK (and universal app) documentation before making such a statement. Windows NT kernel only provides the ability to for the OS to multitask, it doesn't mean that the OS will use it for apps. For Windows Phone and Metro Windows apps, when they are pushed to the background it goes into a suspended state, which means it's current state is saved to memory and ALL processing for that app is stopped. If the app stays in this state long enough, or the system is running low on memory, the app is tombstoned which means that it's current state is moved from memory to more permanent storage. There is one exception (that i know of), location apps are exempt from suspension. Basically any app that turns on the location tracking systems of the OS will not be suspended when pushed to the background. In other cases, certain tricks are used to make the OS seem like it's multitasking apps. For simple music players, the OS provides its own background music player. A music player app just tells the OS what file or stream to play and since the app is not doing the actual decoding of the music, it doesn't need to run in the background. For network apps like Twitter or Facebook, short lived background agents can be set to run periodically to check for updates. But these background agents are not allowed to run indefinitely and there are limits to what they are allowed to do. I'm not sure how voice communication apps like Skype work, though Skype is a Microsoft property so it may have a special status. For the record, I like Windows Phone. I think has a simple, fast, elegant interface and for most use cases it's lack of true multitasking doesn't really matter. However there are certain (specialized) apps that just cannot be done on Windows Phone, or at least not without some sort of special exemption from Microsoft. -- Squeezebox apps for webOS, Android and Windows Phone, http://www.angrygoatapps.com wt0's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18760 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103228 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Thanks for any help and/or suggestions! You have 2 options. First LMS can provide a basic http music stream that any music player that supports streaming can use (including browsers). Just use the url http://server address:server port/stream.mp3 LMS will actually treat that stream as a player and it would show up on any squeezebox remote control. The stream can be a little flaky and the controls will be lag a bit (or a lot) and manually changing songs can be problematic, but should work fine as a continuous stream. The stream is always transcoded to mp3, so you need to make sure the transcoding system is setup correctly on your server. I have been experimenting with Tasker and WOL apps, but these are a bit clumsy. I'd love to have these features as part of Squeeze Control, and with the addition of SB Player it would make a complete solution for me. Are WOL capabilities this something you would consider adding in the future? Squeeze Ctrl already supports WOL, but it only sends the WOL packet right before it connects. After the server receives a WOL Packet it may take a few seconds for it fully wake up and be responsive so the connection from Squeeze Ctrl may not work right away, just disconnect and re-connect. WOL requires the MAC address of the server and for auto discovered servers, Squeeze Ctrl tries to discover the mac address as well. However Android does not have an official API for doing that and Squeeze Ctrl is able to discover the mac by reading a file that's available on Linux systems (Android is based on Linux). I'm not a Linux expert (I googled for mac discovery code), so I'm not sure if the code works on every version of Android. If the server does not seem to be waking up, try manually defining a server in Squeeze Ctrl. You can then enter the MAC address into that definition. -- Squeezebox apps for webOS, Android and Windows Phone, http://www.angrygoatapps.com wt0's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18760 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96757 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

There is an XML file for each channel. The file gives the PIDs, the URLs and the Key necessary to access the stream.
