I run this on a pi2 connected to a nas share and i run 3 squeeze devices (boom, receiver and pi/Hifiberrry ) all sync'd or playing individual streams without any problems ...other than the usual tech issues that come hand in hand with tech :-) Giza2020's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36318 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101856 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Seems I was too late ;) Thanks for all your reactions. Lot more questions to come ;-) Question 1: - I assume that a DAC is only needed when you want to install squeezelite on the RPI. I don't need that as I own more then enough SB players ;-). So am I right that I don't need a DAC then? (sorry, just starting to learn it overhere) Question 2: For the hardware, I read the following remarks in the thread over the hardware: - Thanks for considering adding this Flysurfer. Before using the Odroid I was running LMS and Squeezelite off of a Raspberry Pi. This worked but there was a considerable amount of lag when changing the music. With the Odroid this is a thing of the past.* - The odroid seems much faster than my pi so cant wait to see how it does with LMS and Kodi. - On a side note - LMS runs really well on the Odroid U3 - a good bit faster then my Raspberry Pi 2 - scanning my 65000 track library took less than half the time (probably largely down to eMMC, but other factors may well be an influence). And Kodi seems to run a bit smoother.* According to these message Odroid would be the preferred option for speed. Do you ahve a different experience, based on RPI advice that you gave? Question 3: Next to Squeezebos Server I want to run Kodi as well. Still stick to RPI? Question 4: Man in a Van advices to use 16GB. Is that still valid with LMS and Kodi together? ad6922's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36131 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101856 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Well, I thought you just wanted LMS, Is Kodi an example of mission creep or did you always want to this?;) I can't speak on this as I don't do Kodi (or anything like it) On your other post you quote someone recommending the Odroid because of its speed it scanning a music library. This will depend on the size of your library, remember that you will only do a full rescan occasionally (I guess). It is for you to decide which will suite the best. My main point is the support. Reading through the threads, you will notice that Stefan is very active on supporting his product. The team behind the raspberry pi are committed to supporting it (and future versions). The Odroid may appear to be more cutting edge (it is very much more niche than the plebeian pi) but I think that the support offered by Hardkernel is not up to the same standard (others may disagree). It is the background support that enables the developers to do their stuff. But decide for yourself, what is your location? Perhaps someone nearby will let you experience the virtues of either device Take a look over on the HardKernel site and search for LMS. atb Ronnie. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Max2Play Webinterface for Mediaclients (Audioplayer, Squeezeserver, Airplay, XBMC)
Hi ad6922, you can easily go with a Raspberry Pi 2. This is powerful enough for hosting a Squeezebox Server and a player on the same device and runs very smooth. We have some prebuild images for the Raspberry that are tested and you find good DACs like HiFiBerry that offer good sound quality. The Odroid U3 that we used in the beginning is not produced anymore and the XU4 has a fan mounted on the CPU that is not really silent. The ODROID C1+ is little more powerful but has less supported hardware and less people are using it. If you are aiming for an easy setup and solid functionality and support - get the Raspberry with a good DAC. @Man in a Van: thanks for posting! @ad6922: I thought you are going for a player and server in one device. If you are just looking for a Squeezebox Server, the ODROID XU4 might be worth looking at. But as I mentioned this has a fan, that makes some noise... So you have to hide it somewhere. The EMMC-Cards a lot faster than SD-Cards, but this isn't that important when you are streaming your music from a NAS. When this thread started, there was no Raspberry Pi 2 - so comparing the ODROID U3 and the Old Raspberry Pi, the ODROID gave a lot more performance. Now that we have the RPi 2 things changed a bit. Hi Philippe. I'm just trying to report back on the changes in usability since dev 3 was introduced, all being well up to that point. If the 'no metadata option' is enabled then the usability is as per previous versions so if you could introduce the option to disable the use of icy in-stream metadata that would be a great help, certainly to me!! The 'mute' button on the remote does pause digital streams on the player. Of course for analogue sources it just set's the volume to 0 whilst play continues.
