This happens sometimes with UPnP players and streams... it's a pretty
complicated issue where the player thinks it's dealing with a "live
stream". I've never been able to find a good solution to that and maybe
there is still an issue on my side, but in most of cases, it is due to
the fact that the bridge does *not* know the size of the data/file it
will receive from LMS, so I cannot tell anything to the player. This is
a fully handled HTTP (1.0 or 1.1) case but unfortunately some HTTP/UPnP
stacks wrongly then thinks it's a live stream, which is of course an
strong assumption that they should make at all!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Max2Play and PiCorePlayer spots randomly when playing Spotify streams via SPOTTY

2022-02-16 Thread HerculePirate

Hi Michael
I am trying to get ANY help actually. This has been so strange
Perfect combination of SQZlite + Spotify.
I had also uploaded the logs in my previous posts and had no response.
Hence the multiple threads.

I have switched all the OS's and the problem persists.

I have activated Spotify Connect on the mx2play and enabled it in the
SQL server. I can browse SPOTTY from my SQZserver App Menu and play
music from there too... But when I try to play music from my Iphone to
the max2play or pcp, it does not play.

Any help?

Bizarrely - the two drive or icedax vs cdda2wav behave differently.

The Pi drive says 8 tracks and TOC shows T01 to T08
The Win10 drive says 8 tracks and shows T00 to T08 - 9 tracks and says
"hidden audio track found" - which I think is ignored but my parser
doesn't.

That is even now weirder than the first problem. Make me a bit
suspicious of the Pi H/W - something is borderline. Power up sequence
may matter if +5V power travels from CD drive into Pi. Can't remember
if Pi3 could be powered from USB ports (Pi1 could be).

This is weird, I can't pause a track from Tidal. It pauses for 5 seconds
then starts playing again. Local tracks pause normally. Tidal tracks
pause normally when played to a non UPNP player.

No. SB3 has no USB out.
Try iPeng with an Audioquest first.

working well. The early/recent is very useful with a large collection by
a particular artist and makes quick shuffled playback far easier than
using a standard touch control interface (as does play by year). Good
work!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng Playback + iPad + headphones

2022-02-16 Thread d6jg

I did say earlier that “I used to use this config with iPeng” on my
iPhone.

What I use now is a Pi Zero Velcro’d to a Powerbank with the Audioquest
Dragonfly but controlled by Material on my iPhone.
Why did I move away from iPeng on the iPhone?
1. Crossfade. IPeng doesn’t support it.
2. iPeng/iOS is limited to 24/96. If I ever upgrade the Dragonfly to one
of the colours that supports higher than 24/96 I would never see the
benefit.
3. I was using iPeng solely as the player but using Material on the same
iOS device to control it.
4. Interference (sounds) and phone calls interrupting my listening.

Yes but black will be more than good enough. If you are in UK which I
think you are I’d say get the Lightning USB cable then take your iPad,
cable and headphones to Richer Sounds and test the Dragonfly before you
buy. If it works to your satisfaction with the native iOS music app and
some music you know well then it will also work with iPeng.
Just check that Richer Sounds have some in stock.

Depends what you mean by “good enough”. Should work ok but you’ll get
better audio by using a Lightning to USB cable (Apple Camera Converter)
and an Audioquest Dragonfly. I used to use this config with my B P7s.

iPeng via the Dragonfly supports up to 24/96.

I have also used other portable USB DACs but some aren’t loud
enough/wouldn’t drive the headphones.

Here's the log for the same CD on the pi:

The Disc ID is calculated from the TOC and is
*ziZe4rTCUbofrHB0an0IQTWRdWU-*
There is no record in MusicBrainz for the disc. Unusual but not
unprecedented I have found many examples.

However if this CD is found using CDplayer on Pi - that is strange. If
so can you repeat the log with the same CD on the Pi. They should create
the same Disc ID.

Glad to oblige. Who knows, it may prove useful to others :)

I can play around with the Echo Show 15 layout in the APL web-simulator
but the documentation on widgets is totally useless so no idea how to
implement them. Over the years, I've suggested dozens of improvements to
the Amazon docs when I finally figure something out, but in the case of
widgets the baseline is not good enough to get me even started.

Need to see what is happening with MB lookup request which occurs just

1. Set logging plugin.cdplayer to INFO
2. Go into CD player menu.
3. If you want you can turn reset plugin.cdplayer logging to ERROR

Thanks as ever! I have a spare win10 pc, so given the hassle with the
pi, I'm thing of using win10 if I can get the menus working. I'll check
musicbrainz and report back.

CDplayer seems to bring out the worst in systems. I thought Win10 was
bad.

I've experienced Pi's USB quirks besides CD also with GSM/Mobile
dongles, often chipset related so that certain combos just fail. I have
a dish of 4 BT dongles - and eventually gave up on BT.

It is worth trying a powered USB hub and possibly older USB 2.0 found in
a drawer. Although even then I had to make a special cable which cut the
+5V line on the HUB to Pi connection - it kept the Pi alive when PSU was
unplugged.

This should be easy to fix. Metadata lookup has nothing to do with
playing the CD except initial CD TOC load gives the "key" to lookup.
Check Plugins settings is set to MusicBrainz.
The plugin just does a HTTP/GET on MusicBrainz website - so if it i
failing there is something blocking that call.

Oh dear...

Run into a problem: using the otg speed set to 1 knocks the bluetooth
dongle transmission into short burst of sound.
If I use the internal Bluetooth then the cd doesn't give any sound.

I guess it's because the speed 1 setting applies to all ports, and I
imagine there's no way to apply the otg speed 1 to just individual
ports.

So, the outcome is either cd or Bluetooth but not both g!

I switched over to using a win10 setup where sound works! But then
another catch appears - the cd player menu shows only 1 entry (raw
format), no album titling and no eject. Double grrr!

I'm not sure how to proceed - give up, run 2 separate Pi's, or stick
with the single menu win10 for cds only.

I didn't know that LMS would just ignore basic auth parameters if they
were not enabled :D. That indeed makes it harmless to embed the
credentials in the PLS file for streaming. I've just tested that and it
worked no problem so I've pushed it live.

Let me know if it now works for you.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng Playback + iPad + headphones

2022-02-16 Thread whitman

I'm thinking of getting some headphones to use for LMS, and I'm looking
into iPeng's Playback facility to do this. (This is the iPeng add-on
that effectively turns an iPhone or iPad into an LMS/Squeezebox
player.)

The iPad I'd use is a mini 4. I believe the out from iPeng through the
headphone jack on that would be good enough to make for a reasonably
high quality noise. Correct?

I'm considering the well-rated Grado SR80x cans, which have an impedance
of about 35 ohms. I'm assuming they're OK for the iPad to drive without
assistance as I have a cheap pair of about 32 ohms that seem OK through
that route.

Anyone using a similar setup with advice or comments?

(Wasn't sure exactly where to post this, but figured iPeng = software
probably closest.)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] 'MediaServer' *certified* Alexa skill for LMS

2022-02-16 Thread Peter Galbavy

Yeah, the Basic auth details for the proxy, when it doesn't need it,
just drops through in the headers to the native HTTP interface and hence
the UI works for me.

In my case using a 3rd party proxy would still NOT work as I am not
removing LMS password protection. I have "real" players outside my home
and they cannot support HTTPS anyway, so the most basic clear text auth
is better than none. The username / password are not shared with any
other platform I use so it doesn't matter if they are intercepted -
someone can potentially screw up my LMS configs but that's about it,
although there will be holes in the server or plugins for the
determined.

I am going to see if I can using nginx to proxy with hardwired auth to
/stream.mp3 or see if LMS can somehow unprotect just that endpoint as a
test hack - but the former would not work for your skill I assum as the
endpoint is derived from the LMS servers own knowledge of it's IP and
fixed port and so can't be redirected to a munging proxy solution :)

One potential simplification, if you are willing to change your code, is
to pass the *same* auth details as for the proxy in the URL in the
playlist, like you show, which would have no effect on an unprotected
endpoint but could act as a workaround for those like me (sample size
obviously one for now) that want to support a Frankenstein like hybrid
environment.

OK, that does indeed seem to explain it. I've just added that parameter
to config.json and it indeed now tells me that it's using Musly as
analyser as well. I admit I didn't see that in the code/docs while
trying to troubleshoot this thing.
One advantage I already have from this: it's identified around 10K track
