If you access it over the network the disk format does not really matter
for smb/cifs (samba) share protocol it could be anything it's meant to
translate thats the good part of it ,and creating a directory from
another OS should be ok to .

On the other hand plugin it in to the PC then it's needs to be ntfs or
fat32 (there are some software for ext drives but do they work properly
)

But wait did you actually remove the disk from the plug and attached to
the win PC and made the folder ?
I'm not sure that always work , a full desktop linux can read a windows
created directory and work with it , I do not know about squeeze-plug
If you do this for the music all the time and it works fine then forgot
about then it can read windows created folders just fine .

However shortcuts would not work

My folder gets this stats

1,155 items, totalling 131.5 MB very OK not much fuzz about .

But album cover lookup is new to me :) when does this happen and where
do they go ?

Other observations:

The only artists things work I only get the main artists .

LMS now spends more time doing the extra stuff in the scan phase than
the actual scanning ?

What does the profile export relate to it has more items than I have

Just added two more albums .

My new cover folder It's not populated , do i need to restart the server
after adding my cover folder ? (artist art folder is working fine )

drwxrwsrwx. 2 nobody root 49152 Nov 7 23:27 art
drwxrwsrwx. 2 nobody root4096 Nov 7 21:15 cover

(permissions seems to be in order per my lazy definition everyone can
write or read , I may fix that nobody stuff , that’s for being lazy
and creating folders over cifs/smb)

Now this scan:

mherger wrote:

The artist picture download is rather different from cover art, which
causes this big difference: for cover art we do have a column in the
table, telling LMS whether artwork is available or not. We don't have
 this
option for artist pictures. Therefore the full list of artists is
processed each time you run a scan. If you have a local folder with
 artist
pictures, this should speed up things considerably, as the scanner will

check this first, before going online.

but modified time are at this scan so the are
  accessed and written to ?

That's not expected though. Were these pictures downloaded with a
 previous
 version?

, and it also did to cover lookup again but now there is different
  amount of covers missing ??

The number should be lower than last time, as the last scan added new
artwork to your folder. As artwork is added to this folder, the main
scanner will already pick it up on a subsequent run (this feature has
always been there, .jpg only). Therefore once the scanner reaches the
plugin's importer, those covers are already in place, and the album's
 record would be flagged.

Pre caching went fine , the numbers must be i have not added 185 pics
 or
does this include all sizes it does of each pic ?

Hmm... I never paid much attention to this stage. I'll have to see how
 the
pre-caching does its calculations. Maybe it's per track: one album with

ten tracks would result in 10 items to process.

 Michael

Same version The scans are just hours apart .

Re cover art , the cover art folder is not used there is nothing in it ,
so the plugin must still have them in the cache ?

If you have a defined artwork folder for the artist this will survive
upgrades etc .
Then I could replace No Artist picture once and be done .

Could we also have the plugin looking for the generic picture for when
it can't find any (the man with the horn) in this folder ?
Default the plugin could simply place a copy of mr trumpet there and the
user could then replace it .

My plan is to use a transparent picture with nothing on it instead . The
artist name is still there and I think the most neutral is simply to see
the background instead of any picture at all.

If the file isn't stored, how do you compare timestamps? Yes, the cache
 is
 kept around between scans.

Ok, Music Artist Info v. 0.5.1 is out there, on its way to you. In order
to take advantage of the fancy new features you'll have to install LMS
 7.8 later than October 10.

 New features:

  - Extention to the Default skin to show artist pictures on the
   artist page (7.8 only)
  - Provide simple to use image URL for 3rd parties to get artist
   artwork (7.8 only)
  - CLI command for 3rd party applications to get artist artwork (all
   versions)

In order to get an artist picture, just open

Code:

  http://yourserver:9000/imageproxy/mai/artist/[artist_id]/image.png

image.png can be replaced with resizing parameters, like eg.
 image_100x100_o

If you prefer to get the raw image URL from the external source
(currently last.fm), you can use the CLI:

Code:

  musicartistinfo artistphoto artist:elvis
   musicartistinfo artistphoto artist%3Aelvis
url%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fuserserve-ak.last.fm%2Fserve%2F_%2F2926012%2FElvis%2BPresley%2Bfolder.jpg
   musicartistinfo artistphoto artist_id:34299

You can use both artist:[artist name] as well as
artist_id:[artist_id] parameters to get the artwork.

In order to show off this new feature I added a modification to the
Default web skin, which would show artist artwork in the My Music /
Artists menu (see screenshot in previous posting). If you've been
using the Default skin, then the plugin will automatically switch to
the MusicArtistInfo skin after the update. Should you decide not to
use the modified skin, then you can switch back in the settings. The
plugin will not change the skin again.

Please not that the first time you fire up that page, load time can be
awful, as the plugin will have to look up every single artist in your
collection. But results are cached in LMS, therefore subsequent page
loads should be much faster, even when accessing the page from another
 computer.

 Have fun!

I don't get any artist picture at all whats wrong ? I just get that

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2013-10-30 Thread Mnyb

Feature request:

Stop .

Stop is different from pause in some respects ( holding pause does not
stop like a normal squeezebox but brings the sleep menu ).

A track will start from the beginning if you stop and play it again.

Pausing radio stream can sometimes cache part of them , which can be
good but not always wanted , sometimes you just want listen where it is
rigth now .

Who knows what else server activity is different in stop vs pause ?

Web-UI have the same problem true stop is only aviable on the player
itself or ir-remote

pippin wrote:
Boah... I already find the Squeezebox state model overly complex even
with what iPeng supports now. If this was my design it would only have
play and pause like Sonos. No stop, no power. Just causes
 complexity and confusion.
Yes, it's flexible and I'm sure you can attach dozens of actions based
on a complex rule set to all of these states but no normal user will be
able to distinguish them let alone understand what happens with all
these states in cases like synchronization (the power state is one
thing that makes sync-groups so unfeasible for Squeezeboxes - too many
 states to decide on).

All these things players can do based on these different states would be
better solved by applying common sense and logic within the player. For
example, you could power down an amp when a track is paused for more
than two minutes or so and you could revert to the start of the track
simply by pressing back if you need to; pre-filling buffer is also a
technical detail that should be solved by the player based on the
 current state.

 /rant

So, as you can see I'm going to be dogmatic here :) It adds confusion
and complexity and there is rarely ever a need for it and if you really
need it you can use power. Powering off a device makes it transition
 to stop state, not pause.
If you just want to return to the start of the track you can press
 back.

it actually confuses me that’s there is no stop I think play pause stop
ffw rwd are quite normal stuff for anything since the cassette or VHS
days I would find eject confusing ;) I dont think thats overcomplex .
I agree somewhat on the power states but it also impacts server activity
for sleep etc so it could be necessary and i do like the opurtinity for
an off screensaver , when it works which it actually does not for the
moment , (but i assume any fw bugs are a lost case these days) . The
backligth on a Touch could come on when you least expect it .I do agree
more for the old players where the power-state is remembered by the
server and the player is clueless ? that’s useless (does the local
server share this state with mysb.com ?).

You need to ask that in the LMS forum or, better, in the tagging forum.
There is some preference hierarchy for artwork but I don't know exactly
how it works, it might be the last one you changed.

Also, please be aware you need to do a Clear Rescan if you change
any artwork that's just added to an album folder.

I think OP also was into a Q I used to nag you about , per track artwork
in iPengs playlists ,afiak iPeng shows the album art for the tracks in
an album some albums come in with a specific artwork per track.
but as I only have this in maybe 40 albums in 3000 album collection
I've not checked into this issue lately :) OP is per his other tread
very into embedding different art in some tracks (singles etc ) .
I dont know the status of this ? , you had good reasons to not implement
this way back. I must admitt that i havent thougth about it for a long
time mostly because these albums have not apeared on my playlist lately
.

The random track art chosen as album art is a server bug , but it is
fixed and is now back to be the art from track 01 .

What do these apps cost ? Just buy all of them and try ( and also dl the
fre Logitech one ) :) less hustle than read post here and try to figure
it out , what is your time worth ? Apps rarely costs much more than a
meal on a burger restaurant weigh that against fidgeting for days and
reading treads :)

Besides the squeezebox comunity is not that big , so supporting it by
buying a few things is worthwhile .

I have an iPad I just bought all two the aviable apps there and tried
logitechs one , then I could form my own opinion quite easilly.

You can exclude file formats from the music scan in the settings ( *.cue

PS. I don't have any albums with a single FLAC/WAV file. Maybe it's
best I just exclude .cue files from being scanned?

Edit: Since I don't use playlists at all, maybe I can just leave the
Playlist Folder setting blank? Would that solve my issue? Who uses
playlists anyway? I never understood the need for them except for when
you create a custom playlist yourself.

And the custom playlist done via lms goes into the directory you
select so you need that . Also use a directory not in the path of the
music folder .

Well then just exclude *.cue *.m3u and *.m3u8 from being scanned ,
however I'm still not sure it will help maybe in the *.cue case . I
think LMS is a bit smarter in never versions but try .
If your ripping software creates m3u files for an album you have no use
of them IMO just delete them .

Most good firewalls have the possibility to configure that apropriate
ports and applications ?
LMS itself may have auto configured it ports ( if it's windows own fw )
but the helper app and it's port you may have to configure yourself .

Have you simply tried to turn of the fw on the whs just to test ? It

One thing: when that happens the next time, could you check whether a
player is selected (active) in iPeng?

Main menus for the Squeezebox are player-dependent, so a player needs to
be selected for them to be loaded.
iPeng tries to use the player that was active when you left it and to
assure that, it allows for an extended time to start up if the active
player is iPeng itself. The reason for this is that sometimes it can
take a while that the server detects and reports a newly connected
player and I don't want to switch it away just because it took a while
 to get it reported.
This is especially true if a server switch is involved.

Other than that, iPeng now has a pretty robust retry code in place.
There is a certain condition that can cause loading the menu to be
delayed by one iteration but that's 15s, no more.

It appeared to be selected I could use the play and skip buttons ?

Well I must have erased it months ago ,hence no list of servers ( I had

When I turned of WOL it dissapeared .

Yes this is a great feature, the best of your pluggin! Even better would
it be to mix the library with the regular library so the Squeeze center

A bit OT the smartmix plugin does something similar (but not random
,it's based on seed song ) it picks from your local library and your
services , for example spotify and deezer in my case .

Open Port 9005 on the computer running LMS and the plugin , if that

Turn of the vortex then LMS will restart.

You can use the command line service squeezeboxserver restart or stop
and then start ,could be logitechmediaserver in some Linux variants
try .

Plugins can be removed on the plugins page in LMS settings . You can
also turn on automatic plugin update.

If you are running Ubuntu 64 bit you must install 32 bit compatibility
libs otherwise LMS's transcoding mechanism ( and other stuff ). Won't
work properly . You can't easilly change the delivered flac binary in
LMS as it is done with special patches .

I don't know what support from the OS triodes helper app or libspotify
would miss on a 64bit only Ubuntu ?

it is, but they get the most out of those 64kBps (it's mono, for
starters..). So while I'd like it 192k stereo too, it sounds ok on my

scratchy 33s they have as input?

nothing yet. You can register on the website and build a collection of
your favorite songs, and a future version of the plugin will hopefully
be able to tap into that. Also: search. But first things first, today's
update adds proper song metadata info.

Great more metadata and search even better .

I do want to tap into more info on the artists ,in fact this is a cool
channel I never heard most of the music they play ,and if heard of the
artist the particular mix or version is an unknown and I like their
choices .

 what I was looking for.
but I found a more detailed procedure in page 13 of this post. So I
 decided to follow it .
UNFORTUNATELY, the procedure was not for a Squeezeboxserver, but for a
 *LogitechMediaServer *
The installation did well... but nothing was working on my squeezebox
 (this is just normal).
and then I discovered the mistake - I did THE wrong installation.

So then I try to download the SqueezeboxServer Pakage and try to install
it, BUT now, I've an error message (Conflict)
I've already removed from the /etc/init.d/logitechmediaserver
 I've done a fallback on the /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs/server.prefs
 to the original config.

However I still have this kind of message

Code:

  MyBookLive:/DataVolume/shares/Public# dpkg -i

   dpkg: regarding squeezeboxserver_7.6.1_all.deb containing squeezeboxserver:

   dpkg: error processing squeezeboxserver_7.6.1_all.deb (--install):
conflicting packages - not installing squeezeboxserver
   Errors were encountered while processing:

I've no idea on how to uninstall the logitechmediaserver ... in order
 to install the Squeezebox mediaServer.
The Only Thing I see now is to comeback to factory settings ... and I
would like to avoid this kind of things - I still unclear If I'm gonna
loose my already 1GO files transfered on MyBookLive
If you have any tips/procedure this would be great help.

 Cheers Gilles.

Logitech media server is the newest version of squeezeboxserver , the
software has had many names (to many) so it is also working with any
squeezebox . That said i know nothing about the mybook and the details
on how to really get it to work properly on that plaatform.

Did the squeezebox see the server ?
What was the server settings for music directory ?
Could you see the web-UI on your PC ?
In many linux and linux like installs it can be about user and
permissions . The server usually has it's own user on the system and it
should be able to read the directory (and if you use playlisats be able

Don't know when it happened , I'm running the latest 7.8 beta and
probably the latest bandsCampout plugin by Mherger .

What happens is that instead of getting the plugin menus , I get the
bandcamp website in iPengs web browser .

The plugin is working as expected on the web-UI and directly on the
Touch .

master-clocks (separately for 44,1 and 48 kHz) and tube sage based on
 double 6H6P triodes;)
And the sound in my opinion is like mp3 and unfortunately not like
 CD.
I wish Spotify improved their stream quality.

Many thanks Triode for your great plugin and valuable support!!!

Stream quality can vary i had both good and bad experiences , I a bit in
doubt on their encoding process ,even some of the truly 320k encoded
stuff does not seems transparent to me while other sounds perfect ?

I dont know if libspotify use some decoding and if that varies in
quality on different platforms ? As it actually works on pretty low
powered NAS platforms one could suspect that some shortcuts using less
maths intensive methods that uses no FPU could be invoked .
But that would involve a fair bit of experimentation equipment that i
don’t have to actually test so i have not done that .

The point with albumartist tag vs artist tag is the the list gets very
Long and cluttered with all artists deepening on how you tag .

Some people use AA for the main artist on the record and actually fill
in all guests ,collaborators and the kitchen sink in the artist tags and
as LMS supports multiple artist tags it easy to go this route .

To compound this LMS has its own internal, logic to how to populate it s
artist list all user don't agree with it.
So specifically list by the tag artist and the tag albumartist as an
option to what LMS calls artist would be nice options .

Good news! You don't need a premium account to get Pandora to work with
squeezeslave. I'm listening to Pandora with squeezeslave right now,
without a premium account. You just need a mac address that is in the
proper range . You must use the -mac switch to overide the default
mac address that squeezeslave reports to the LMS. I would recommend
one in the range that Boom's use. I had to try picking one a few times
 before it worked.

For example try starting in the 00:04:20:1A:xx:xx range and adding one
(in HEX) to the last octet until you succeed. If it is in use by a
real world SB or just not sane, it will give you the already in use
message. The default mac 00:00:00:00:00:01 is not going to cut it for
 Pandora.

You must use the command line override for mac address to make this
work. Put it before the hostname/ip of your LMS. (be sure to replace
 xx with numbers ;)

Code:

./squeezeslave -R -mac 00:04:20:1A:xx:xx hostname of your LMS

The common part of mac for squeezeboxes seems to be 00:04:20 the rest is
unique per player

this principle, stealing the mac address from someone else without
asking for permission is a really bad idea.

Idea if you ever scrap a squeezebox take note of it's mac before it goes

Smartmix restarts when changing player in the web-UI when synced ?

Reproduce like this :

Clear all playlists in all players .

Sync 3 of them .

Start a smartmix from the smartmix menu .

Behold the mix is starting in all synced players yeah :)

Now flick trough your players in the web-UI and watch smartmix restart
the mix everytime you change player :/ urgh

As bonus also watch smartmix start unsynced players that have no current
playlist with thier own unsynced versions of the mix, you just have to
choose the player in the web-UI you dont have to press play or anything
.

I do have never stop the music option choosen

Last.fm isn't a track based service. They don't offer music on demand.

My question about how to enable MOG was also related to how to

Adding MOG to Deezer would mostly multiply the sources from where you

this happens with Triodes Spotify plugin ? It happens a lot with the

I don't think it does matter. TEN simply does not provide region
 specific
catalogs. Thus it'll return track IDs which are not available to you,
whether you're using the official plugin or Triode's.

How wonderful :) does TEN return spotify id's directly not only a song
title that the spotify plugin could provide ?
Spotify usually have several versions of a song available some works in
your region some not why it s like this goes beyond what we can
understand but triodes plugin does a good effort to filter out the ones
that work .
There is the rare case when a tune is not aviable at all , then neither
you or triode coud do anything :/

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Smart Mix plugin

2013-02-17 Thread Mnyb

Don't stop the music! feature is not working I did disable repeat as we
are instructed but still nothing and the music is Nick Cave so TEN
should not have problem with such iconic figure ?

Settings :

X Local music files
X Deezer
X Spotify

The funny thing is that seems only to query spotify ?

1. It fails at spotify .
2. It does not continue to deezer
3. It does try my local files

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Smart Mix plugin

2013-02-17 Thread Mnyb

It actually fails to create any mix for this record but it does work
with a Nick Cave mix .

Sugestion , during Don't stop the music! fall back on artist if TEN
gets stuck on a particular album .

If that fails play modern talking then we know that’s there something
wrong ;)

Are you running the latest version of the plugin?

 I'd rather go with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ

Does anyone know if it would be possible to do some sort of
firefox/chrome plugin for a send to squeezebox/band's campout option
on Bandcamp pages? Pure laziness on my part but I was just interested.
(Obviously, it's so hard to load up a controller and search!!!)

LMS servers own web-UI just open another tab in the browser
