Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Scan speed
Do you have to give control to SBS after every track? Or could you perhaps scan, say, 5 tracks at a time? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC R2 Replay mono?
If you still don't understand what to do, you could try something like: Code: find / -name mplayer -type f -exec {} -v -playlist http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/shows/rpms/radio2/r2_radmac_thu.rpm \; Ignore any permission denied errors... Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC R2 Replay mono?
You shouldn't have to do anything to ignore them - just wait. If the find command eventually comes back to the bash prompt without running mplayer, then the mplayer file isn't being found. You've probably answered this elsewhere, but while I have your attention. please point me in the right direction! Oh yeah, and how do I change the time? The configuration is saved automatically when you shut the system down but before that can happen you have to define the backup partition. That's under the System=Backup/Restore menu. You can change the date/time with the 'date' command, but that doesn't seem to update the BIOS so it gets lost on reboot. I just went into the BIOS at boot and set it directly. I notice that cron doesn't run the backup.sh script in /etc/cron.daily unless you copy/rename it to a file without the .sh suffix. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce] SlimCD 1.85 - The Return ofAlienBBC!
Michael Herger;193603 Wrote: Cool! That machine's looking nice. How did you install SlimCD? Frugal or HD? Frugal - seemed a lot less hassle. The DSM is seriously neat. It's actually an eBox-3850. You can buy them for about $250. Add a pen drive and you're ready. I paid extra for mine 'cos I bought it through DSL - seemed an appropriate way of saying thank-you. I tried doing a toram install but the system went into molasses mode even before I scanned my music and even after I commented out SoftSqueeze. I then tried doing a tohd install onto a second pen drive with the intention of eventually doing it to a compact flash drive inside the machine. It worked fine but I realised it didn't really gain me much (anything?), so I ended up doing neither. Currently my boot command looks like: APPEND ramdisk_size=10 init=/etc/init 2 lang=us apm=power-off vga=791 initrd=minirt24.gz nomce noapic nosound quiet frugal restore=sda2 mydsl= ssh BOOT_IMAGE=knoppix But imho that's the way to go. I'm backing up all /etc (even more sledgehammer), but that's where all that stuff is stored. On the principle of if you're going to use a sledgehammer, make it a big one :) I looked at executing passwd in S99bootlocal but that's even uglier. So I think I'll go with your suggestion and just do the whole of /etc. Many thanks for all your work on SlimCD. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce] SlimCD 1.85 - The Return ofAlienBBC!
I'm just finishing my installation of the 1.86 SlimCD on a nano-ITX Damn Small Machine (DSM) from the DSL folks (thanks to Ron F for pointing it out). The DSM comes with an 800mhz CPU and just 256MB memory. I boot it from the first partition on a 1GB pen drive and back up my configuration to the second partition on the same drive. My small music collection (3500+ songs, mostly FLAC, some AAC) lives on a network drive. The SS scanner seems to work about 3 times faster on the DSM than my 1.8GHZ XP desktop which is pretty impressive - both systems use SMB so it's a direct comparison. The web interface is much more responsive on the DSM, especially when painting cover art. At the moment I have just 2 outstanding problems. OK, one question and one nit. 1. On the player display of the web interface I see, for example: Now playing 6 of 7 [zap]: From Now On (6:19) (125kbps CBR) Artist [x] Supertramp itemobj.album.idAlbum [x] should be just Album Even in the Quietest Moments (1977) which is not making me lose any sleep. 2. I'm looking for an elegant way to set the dsl username password on a reboot. I suppose backing up the /etc/shadow file would work, but that feels like a sledgehammer approach. For those who might be interested, I've attached a photo of the DSM as it's set up at the moment for testing - a 17 monitor in the background and a 12 laptop in the foreground. The video, mouse and keyboard connections will disappear from the right side when it moves to its final resting place. The pen drive is sticking out the left side.
