What does the helper app say: web service (yournas:9002) LMS
=>settings=> advanced=> spotify=>status

The log mentioned credentials problems (no remembered user). I checked
the config page for the module. Correct username was there, I re-entered
the password. Now things work.

This could be a side effect of restoring my Synology after a hardware
crash (yes this happens..) or one of the recent LMS or DSM upgrades.

Where will the output of the print statement be shown? In which log
file?? I am not sure whether I have a console somewhere. Alternatively,
how would I start LMS from the command line?

Hi Triode, looked at the Contextmenu code myself and indeed it looks
like the $log is undefined and maybe the module is loaded too early
(there is no issue with a manual version whatsoever). How could I check
whether the $log is already defined? Another possibility is that $log is
not a valid file handle anymore as a side effect of something else
(might be related to my perl version, but as I said, use the official
LMS distribution)

No I never did a manual install of the spotify plugin. Always using the
web interface. Do you suggest I should try a fresh install? I could
certainly try that if I would know how to do a clean uninstall.. Just a
matter of removing the plugin directory?

The distinction between automatic and manual versions of the plugin is
new to me. How can I check this? AFAIK I upgraded to LMS 7.7.1 (as soon
as it was made available from Synology) and upgraded your plugin to the
latest level.

I am not sure which module you refer to when mentioning "the other

the previous log excerpts came from spotifyd.log . However, I did find
other errors in server.log caused by the append to playlist request:

Any idea what's going on here, Triode?

I am a satisfied user of the arm version of your plugin. Recently I
wanted to use the playlist functionality. When I try to add a song an
existing playlist (through the context menu), the action does not

I finally figured out that it is possible to activate one of the
libraries of the Multi Library (is there a documentation page
somewhere). The menu is visible now. But none of the four menus gives a
result. I did retag some CD's and the active library (Classical Music)
is not empty.

I think that the error message is probably unrelated, the log shows
that it first appeared when upgrading from 7.6 to 7.7.

Yes the menus are enabled. I forgot to mention that Custom Browse has
an item "Standard Library" with item "Ratings"

now here's an menu xml file.

No I do not get Classical Music entry in the main My Music folder. I
do get a Classical Music entry under extras => Multi Library.
I do see four Classical Music/ submenus in the Custom Browse settings
page.
Restarting the server did not help.

Hi,

I am working with a demo license for custom browse, custom scan and
multi library.

I am trying to build a browse menu for classical music based on the
example at
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Setup_browse_menu_for_classical_music

I performed all steps, however the custom browse menus do not show up
(there is no entry "Classical Music" under Custom Browse. Is this web
page recipe still up to date?

That's a pity. The Touch is my main player. It does recognize vertical
swipe actions ( to browse through lists). Perhaps there is a horizontal
swipe action in the API as well? Another suggestion would be to use the
arrow keys of the remote control that comes with the Touch.

I installed the license manager on my SB server and SB touch, installed
the album flow applet on the touch, got a demo license. Now Albumflow
seems to work as a screen server, but I cannot access it as a browse

I wrote a little cgi-bin perl wrapper that instructs a regular refresh

should the update be implemented as a pull method from within the SB

[SlimDevices: Plugins] reading out an energy consumption value every 5 sec

2012-01-18 Thread buzzsb

Hi, I have an energy consumption sensor which can be read via a REST
call to a web interface. I would like to display this value on the SB
Touch (which is always on), preferably as a screen saver. What is the
easiest way to implement this? I was considering the Info Browser or
RSS plugin as a starting point, but how do I make sure that the data is
updated regularly (e.g. every 5 seconds)?

My kids (who don't master English) like the Dutch language interface of

Maybe it could be stored/backed up as a separate file in the same
directory where the SB playlists are. This is a directory which is not
removed when e.g. SBS is upgraded (where typically removing the old
package is best practice)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2011-09-17 Thread buzzsb

Hi,

I recently upgraded my synology ds211+ to DSM 3.2 and SBS 7.6.1
(Synology finally made a 7.6 SBS server available as a package).

Unfortunately the spotify plugin has problems in this new setting. (I
do use version 2.0.3).

I am rebooting the NAS every morning to save power during the night, it
seems that the spotify plugin does not always come up:

One day I had
[07:01:47.295856] main:362
/volume1/@appstore/SqueezeCenter/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotify/Bin/arm-linux/spotifydnoflac
2.0.2 started
[07:01:49.250038] main:550 connection not readable

Today I had:
[07:01:47.269344] main:460 new connection
[07:01:48.277595] main:550 connection not readable
[07:01:48.277750] _sighandler:44 signal 11 (Segmentation fault),
address is 0x38 from 0x407992f0

In both cases, the helper app was not running. I never had any problems
with the plugin running SBS 7.5.4 but obviously prefer not to downgrade,
since 7.6.1 is much faster.

Triode, do you have any clue?

OK, here's an excerpt from the strings.txt file.

PLUGIN_SPOTIFY
ENSpotify

PLUGIN_SPOTIFY_DESC
ENThird party Spotify plugin. Listen to Spotify on
your Squeezebox Classic, Boom, Duet, Transporter, Radio or Touch.
Requires a Spotify Premium account.

PLUGIN_SPOTIFY_BANNER

How would you like the Dutch translations (would like to focus first on
the end user strings in the player)?

I could either add translations inline in the strings.txt file
(prefixed by NL I suppose)

OR

I could make a new strings.txt file. Probably, the latter option would
be more scalable (can be maintained by independent localizers).

Hi Triode,

I have been using your plugin on my Synology DS211+ (ARM), using the
official package which is still 7.5.4. Your initial pluging update
release 2.0.1 did not work for me, I thought of downgrading to 2.0.0 or
just waiting for several days. I just re-installed the patched version
of 2.0.1 that you mentioned on the list. This seems to have restored
backward compatibility with 7.5.4. I must say I am really pleased with
the library functionality. This makes Spotify much more attractive for
a person that has grown up with albums instead of playlists. Thanks
again for your great work.

really surprise me if the difference in hardware (different ARM CPU) is

I figured out that the context menu of the official plugin depends on

That is the output of perl -v (lowercase). Anyway, for my DS, the

DSM3.1 version of squeezebox (official package) works fine for me
(DS211+) in combination with triode's plugin. Converting photos using
the picture gallery plugin is very slow though. Apparently this problem
is solved in SB 7.6.X, but the Synology release is still 7.5.3. Picture
browsing on the Touch is a fun feature but not my major application.
Need to check which specific resize functionality has been added in
7.6, causing the improved performance of picture gallery.

Hi, I restored OS.pm from the DSM version of sqeezecenter back to its
original state and replaced Plugin.pm by the version posted on the
forum (#2335) and the plugin works fine, sporifyd is found. What we may
need is an inventory of archnames for different Synology hardware. The
archname can be found by 'perl -V'
For the DS211+ this gives: archname=MARVELL_88F6281

Hi,

I promised a summary of the steps to get the spotify plugin working
with DS211+ and the official Synology SB package (7.5.3).

1. Add 4 lines of code in OS.pm to fix a bug in SB server (shown in
context, but prefixed here with >> ). This bug prevents the helper app
to be started and consequently, the .conf file is never written.

sub initSearchPath {
my $class = shift;
# Initialise search path for findbin - called later in
initialisation than init above

# Reduce all the x86 architectures down to i386, including
x86_64, so we only need one directory per *nix OS.
$class->{osDetails}->{'binArch'} =

2. Select and install the spotify plugin in the usual fashion from the
SB server web interface.

3. Configure the spotify plugin by filling in your spotify credentials.
Note the tab should mention that the helper app is running.

So for me it was not necessary to follow the SSODS route.

Triode, I am willing to add the DS 211+ plus this recipe to a list/wiki
of NAS's that are reported to work. Does it exist?

Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2011-03-09 Thread buzzsb

Dear triode,

I adjusted the port number in the conf file to 9005 and now things
seems to work. I will test the following things later:
* whether the spotifyd is launched automatically
* how stable the configuration is under use
* why the conf file is not written from the GUI (and the process not
reported in the logfile). Could there be some buffering issue? Even
tail -f is not working under this variant of linux.

When all that is clear, I will post a summary that could help other
Synology ARM NAS users.

I really appreciate the added functionality of your plugin in
comparison with the official plugin for the SB Touch.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2011-03-09 Thread buzzsb

I did create a conf file with my premium credentials, and yes spotifyd
runs now, whithout complaining. However the plugin still does not
operate. The server.log file mentions:
Connect timed out: Transport endpoint is not connected

What would be my next check?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2011-03-09 Thread buzzsb

thanks for explaining the process. I turned on plugin.spotify (at the
logging tab) and gave it the debugging level. Subsequently I made some
changes in the spotify plugin settings, submitted these, and: no
mention whatsoever in the server.log file.

I will test with a manually created spotifyd.conf file. Is the cache
setting important?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2011-03-09 Thread buzzsb

In fact the spotifyd already gave the information where it expected a
conf file:

[21:26:18.401797] read_config:255 unable to open config file:
./Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotify/Bin/arm-linux/spotifydnoflac.conf

[21:26:18.401857] main:348 Unable to read config file

This directory does not contain any conf files.

Synology> ls ./Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotify/Bin/arm-linux/
libFLAC.so.8 libspotify.so.7 spotifyd spotifydnoflac

In this directory I can also run sporifyd, since libFLAC.so.8 is in the
library path..

I did raise the logging level, but found nothing of interest in the
server.log file.

I also created an empty file spotifyd.conf , now spotifyd daemon
complains
[21:55:48.891560] read_config:305 unable to read username or password

I checked whether there is a spotifyd.conf file in my Windows
Squeezebox installation, and yes there is:

loglevel: INFO
username:
password:
cachedir: C:\ProgramData\Squeezebox\Cache\spotifycache
bitrate: 320
httpport: 9001
cliport: 9090

My questions are now:

1.Can I just copy my spotifyd.conf file from windows to ARM? Which
cache directory should I specify/create? Should I change the port to
9005?

2. I assume this conf file should have been generated by editing the
settings in the web front end of the server right?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2011-03-09 Thread buzzsb

Hi Triode,

I am trying to get the spotify plugin running on a new diskstation
running DSM 3.1 . It is preconfigured with SB as follows
Versie: 7.5.3 - r31792 @ Mon Jan 24 08:21:38 MST 2011
HTTP-poortnummer van server: 9002
Besturingssysteem: Synology DiskStation (DSM Package Management) - NL -
utf8
Platformarchitectuur: MARVELL_88F6281
Perl-versie: 5.8.6 - MARVELL_88F6281
MySQL-versie: 5.1.49

before resorting to SSODS, I would like to try this installation. I did
install the plugin in the settings of the SB server, but the helper app
is not running. I located spotifyd (spotifyd and spotifydnoflac). This
is the output of attempting to run these on the command line:
./volume1/@appstore/SqueezeCenter/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotify/Bin/arm-linux/spotifyd:
error while loading shared libraries: ./libFLAC.so.8: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory
Synology>
./volume1/@appstore/SqueezeCenter/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotify/Bin/arm-linux/spotifydnoflac
[11:54:01.807698] main:337
./volume1/@appstore/SqueezeCenter/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotify/Bin/arm-linux/spotifydnoflac
1.3.2 started
[11:54:01.808640] read_config:255 unable to open config file:
./volume1/@appstore/SqueezeCenter/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotify/Bin/arm-linux/spotifydnoflac.conf
[11:54:01.808702] main:348 Unable to read config file

thanks
