So now you are touching the second benefit, the first being the ability
to tie the functions of the player with the funtions of the AVR.

The secondary benefit is to use a common UI to control all aspects of
playing music (music selection, player control and sound reproduction).
For that I feel the best solution is a combination of using an iOS
device (iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad) and the iPeng application along
 with this plugin.

With this solution you only see one interface (iPeng) and everything in
the solution responds to the user from that single interface. You can
get more info about iPeng from the Apple App Store or this url:

 http://penguinlovesmusic.de/

See how the plugin uses iPeng here:

 http://code.google.com/p/denonavpcontrol/wiki/HowToUse

No remote solution can accomplish what this solution does. I am not
aware of any equivelant solution from any vendor (ie SONOS) that is as
 complete.

Note you might want to consider adding another player to your system
that is hooked up to your AVR. The SB Receiver was the best choice if
you were going to use an iOS device but they seem to be in limited
supply. The SB Touch is probably the best device with todays
availability although you may really never use the UI. We still like
to use the Touch because with this solution you can glace at the Touch
display to see song/status and don't have to pick up the iOS device and
probably enter pw to get access to the screen etc. The SB Touch also
has the highest bandwidth of the current SB Players for higher bitrate
 content you may aquire.

Thanks again Chris. Yeah, I have considered adding a dedicated box to
my home theater. I just have a hard time justifying the cost because I
can accomplish most of what I want to do with software running on my
media server in conjunction with my various clients in the house
(directv receiver, ps3 and denon). I may end up just moving my squeeze
radio to where the denon is after all. If nothing else this plugin
would come in handy when we're streaming music to the pool and want to
change the station via the iphone. Thanks again!

No. Just networked. But the AVR will not respond to a power on unless
you turn off power saver mode.

Your audio is streamed to the AVR via a SPDIF (cable or fiber)
connection. The SBS does not support DNLA or some networked
 streaming.

I added this statement to the plugin pages since it was not obvious.

This plugin assumes that your Squeezebox player is connected to the
AVP/AVR via a SPDIF connection to one of the Denon audio ports and that
you have confirmed that audio can be heard from the player through the
 Denon to your speakers.

Ah, thanks much - that is what I was missing. I have my squeeze in the
kitchen and the denon is 30 feet away in a large room so we had hoped to
be able to stream from one to the other. This seems like a fantastic
plugin. Since I have a harmony universal remote, is there any
advantage to using this plugin in lieu of setting up a new activity
that would control both the squeeze and the denon?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin

2011-01-18 Thread muchgooder

Please forgive me for asking a few noob questions but I'm a bit lost
with this plugin. I have an AVR-4306 that is networked with a static
IP and the latest firmware updates. I've installed the plugin and
configured it via the area in the web config (I made sure to enable web
audio as per a previous post). What exactly should I see now? People
have alluded to seeing a new player on the squeezebox? Is this plugin
supposed to stream what I hear on the Squeezebox to my Denon? I know
that it is partially working as it will in fact turn off my Denon but
it won't turn it on. Also, if it is supposed to stream what input do I
need it to be on? I did a search on the pdf manual and saw no mention
of quick select. thank you very much in advance!

I think you are confusing two plugins. Are you using DenonAVPControl or
the DenonSerial plugin from Peter? There is no PDF with DenonAVPControl
and everything is found on this wiki

Thank you for your response. Yes, I've been to that site before and
didn't find the answers that I'm looking for. What exactly does that
plugin do? Does it just turn the Denon on and off and adjust the
volume? That's the part that I'm missing. I referenced the pdf
because a previous post said to look at the Denon manual to find
answers on the quick select feature of some Denons.

OK. Basically the plugin manages the AVR when you do various functions
on the SB player. For example if you turn on the player it will turn on
the AVR and if you adjust the volume on the player it really adjusts the
 AVR instead.

Here is the tricks you may not have grasped.

 1. On your AVR you need to go to the network settings and turn off
power saver mode. That was what the prior poster mentioned in the PDF
reading. If this is turned on you cannot turn on the AVR by the
 plugin.

 2. Set your player to 100% volume if you want to bypass the analog to
digital conversion. The AVR will do it all.

Thanks again Chris. The one thing that I mentioned in my original post
is how this is supposed to tie together. Does this assume that the
Squeeze is physically connected to the AVR and not just networked?
I'm still missing how the audio is streamed to my AVR. Also, what
player am I supposed to set to 100%? Once again, sorry for the basic
questions.
