is a also a Resync setting in Roon SqueezeBox audio settings to put some
silence between tracks. What you have spotted explains too why Roon
playing seems gapless.

I'm only playing with UPnP at the moment (with default Foobar device
config)
For the glitches it's difficult to be very categorical with my setup (i
use MS RDP to monitor WIN10 Foobar from my IMAC)

- Volume OK
- Latency very good ! (seems gapless !!!)
- I've played tracks from Roon in different format, FLAC, AAC, MP3 and
even from TIDAL and Internet Radios
- i've also played a full FLAC album without a glitches
- Play / Pause seems OK

- Issue sometimes (nothing in the logs) when i skip to the next track,
difficult to find the conditions see 'my initial feedbacks'
- I think there is condition(s) where there might be issue(s) with
transport commands but i'm not in good conditions to be affirmative, i
hope others will test with Roon also.

Questions:
- What about your tests with SONOS devices sq2u and Roon ?
- Do you think Roon streaming is different from LMS one (i know, hard
question at this point :))

Oops philippe, sorry for my previous message !

I' think i've unintentionally launched few sq2u process in parallell per

I've killed all tasks all and relaunched sq2u.
Now it is playing from Roon both in WIN10 and OSX (with Foobar).

Philippe,

Hi,
Old thread but interested to know if somebody successfully used LINN
Open Home devices with @philippe_44's UpNP bridge (squeeze2upnp) ?

Pros and Cons ?

Limitations ?

Is BubbleUPnP Server (create OpenHome Media Renderers from any UPnP AV
devices) usable in this context ?

Bad luck ! There is a lot of LINN OH devices users dreaming of a
workaround to play with Roon

About my point 5) are you experiencing the same glitches in your sq2u ->
foobar setup ?

FYI there is a new thread in the Roon community forum about the bridges.
SONOS and LINN users are interested.

Hi Phillipe,

After a little more tests some observations concerning sq2u 0.2.10.0 and
Roon streaming to Foobar2000 (WIN10)

1) I've successfuly played audio files from Roon: AAC, MP3, MP4, FLAC,
TIDAL and Internet Radio (all 16b) OK

2) Latency is very good ! OK

3) Unable to play: 24b / 192khZ FLAC KO (i have to investigate more
because i have very few 19khz files and i'm not sure it is a true sq2u
problem)

4) No problem when i load and play individual track OK

5) Sometimes (not always) in a playlist or album mode (even with the
same audio format on all tracks):
- When playing a track if i skip to the next track (> button) the next
track doesn't play (no errors on the sq2u & foobar console). If i skip
forward again the next track is played (N+2).
- If i skip backward ( Rega DAC => Rega Brio R amp => Harbeth SLH5 speakers

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: UPnPBridge = integrate UPnP/DLNA players with LMS (squeeze2upnp)

2016-10-18 Thread volpone

Philippe,
Using your *last sq2u version 0.2.10.0*, Roon (emulating LMS) is now
streaming to UPnP renderers !
Big thanks to you for that !

I'm still testing but looks promising.
Additionally *sq2cast 0.2.4.0* seems to work with Roon and Chromecast
devices using the same mechanism.

I've downloaded the new versions from:
sq2u 0.2.10.0: https://sourceforge.net/projects/lms-to-upnp/
sq2c 0.2.4.0: https://sourceforge.net/projects/lms-to-cast/

I've also checked https://github.com/philippe44 for the source code.

THE NEW DEFAULT_ON PARAMETER MUST BE SET TO 1 TO USE THE BRIDGES WITH
ROON.

2016-10-18 Thread volpone

Thanks to @philippe_44 for *squeeze2cast 0.2.4.0* new version.

Roon (emulating LMS) is now able to stream to Google Cast devices !
I'm just beginning testing but looks promising.

Additionally *sq2upnp 0.2.4.10* seems to work with Roon and UPnP devices
using the same mechanism.

I've downloaded the new versions from:

sq2u 0.2.10: https://sourceforge.net/projects/lms-to-upnp/
sq2c 0.2.4: https://sourceforge.net/projects/lms-to-cast/

I've also checked https://github.com/philippe44 for the source code
delta.

The new default_on parameter must be set to 1 to use the bridges with
Roon.

Thank's Philippe.
I've installed Wireshark and will try to manage to capture what's
exchanged between Roon server (WIN10) and sq2U runing on a different OSX
machine.

Is squeeze2upnp-osx-multi (V 2.9.1) OK on OSX 10.11.6 (El capitan) ?
Any specific wireshark filters ?

I agree.
I will try to test in 3 steps.

1) LMS + bridge plugin (Linux) => Foobar renderer on another WIN10
machine
2) LMS (Linux) => Sq2u + Foobar on another WIN10 machine
3) Roon emulating LMS + Sq2u + Foobar , all components on the same WIN10
machine (actual test setup)

Correct ?

The final goal, is to check as a principle, if sq2u might be a
workaround to use UPnP renderers with Roon.
Quite a lot of Roon's users would be glad of such a workaround.

Good if CLI is not mandatory.

I'm running sq2u and Roon servers on WIN10.
I've disabled MS WIN firewall (private and public network). No idea if
others firewall of any kind. My Win setup is "out of the box".

I'm not very sure on how to setup Foobar as UPnP renderer.
In the Roon UI signal path is correct as if the stream is playing but
seek bar is not moving

Any insight on basic alternate "soft" UPnP renderer to test sq2u with
Roon on WIN10 ?

Nothing special from sq2u output ?
Any debug option to activate ?

Thank you

Thank you Philippe,
i've a quick and dirty try with the stand-alone application using foobar
as UPnP renderer.

- UPnP device is detected from Roon and displayed as an available
squeezelite device.

- With the default parameters i'm unable to play the stream (mp3, 44,1,
16b), Roon seems skip to the next track without playing.

- I don't know if CLI on port 9090 is supported on Roon LMS emulation.

Any ideas ?

Thank you

Yes, i agree Michael.
When Roon emulate LMS you have to stop any other LMS server running on
the network and so no plugin to help.

But, what i understand from sq2u user guide, is that squeeze2upnp is
able to run as standlone (launched via the command line and configured
via xml config file).
So my question about any feedback from users running Roon with
standalone squeeze2upnp.

Thank you Philippe, interested in your feedback especially on

About UPnP flaws, I agree this is very painful to deal with. I think
 there are 2 reasons.

 - It tries to do everything and to accommodate all the different
industry vendors. As a result, this is the camel = a race horse
 designed by a committee problem.
 - There is no really good interoperability certification/validation so
basically it is a jungle of non-interworkable devices (servers, control
 point, renderers).

Working myself is systems that rely heavily on standards, I know how
important it is to make the specification simple (don't offer 3 methods
to do the same thing just to please vendors), avoid ambiguity as much as
possible and because there are always ambiguities, then organize a very
strong validation/certification system. The amount of renderer
variations I had to deal with for my simple application is simply
amazing ... I could also add that I think UPnP misses at least one very
important feature for me: audio synchronization (UPnP 2.0 does but
 nobody seems to adopt it)
Very interesting !

philippe_44 wrote:
About the thread, I read it quickly. Some statements wrt UPnP pain
 points are correct I think

The LINN extensions (aka OpenHome) solve a lot of functional problems
(Gapless playback, playlist management ..) isnt'it ?

The point about the lack of brain in UPnP architecture seems real for
me. The application logic is in the server but also in the control point
and sometimes in the renderer.
How such a model could be effective to manage huge library with a lot of
metadata ? For example the Lumin IOS app (one of the best today) use
MinimServer for the tag tree but all the database management is running
on the IPAD. I would prefer a true client / server model like SqueezeBox
/ LMS.

an argument where some of the initial hypothesis are wrong.

I'm interested in comparing the different protocols and architecture
UpnP / AirPlay / SongCast / LMS (slim) / RoonSpeakers.
with a not too deep technical approach but to understand the main
differences and pros and cons.
Any link ? Any schematics ?

I am personally, to be honest, satisfied with what I have from
ex-Logitech. I'm a tinkerer, so I do my own PCB, 3D prints and software,
so with squeezelite and RaspberryPi, it is easy to transform any other
device/speaker into a LMS system, fully integrated, even if
(unfortunately) Logitech does not develop any more hardware. It was a
difficult learning curve, but I now know squeezelite very well so I can
fix it if needed. What I'm still frustrated with is not being successful
to synchronize my Sonos with squeezeboxes, but I'm still working on it,
it will just be a lot of work ;-) If I can make that work, then that
would give me all I want in term of tinkering possibilities as well as
pre-made good looking devices (as you can guess, I'm not an audiophile
 high end guy).

I like too the LMS ecosystem but even if i'm not a true Audiophile i
care about sound quality and above all user experience as a melomane.
In this aspect Roon seems interesting for a classical music lover who
like to discover new musics.

Thank's and Regards.

Patches for bugs like this is always welcome if someone knows some
development and want to help.Erland, your plugins are invaluable for me

baroque music.
SBS out of the box is not suited to browse classical.
Here is my experience with 7.6 and your plugins:

I've upgraded SBS from 7.5.2 to 7.6 Beta (r32517) on my ReadyNas Pro
(x86 Linux) using default SQLIte with high memory config.
7.6 SBS seems 30% to 40% faster to scan my 70K songs library, and UI
seems also quite faster.
- After migration i've got a quite huge squeezebox-persistent.db cache
file 6GB
- Custom Scan, Browse, Trackstat, Database Query .. last versions are
still functional on 7.6 (7.5.2 prefs preserved) but there is some major
and minor issues.
- Performance issue with custom browse menus using custom tags is my
main concerns.
I'm not a developer but if you get some time to optimize your plugins
for 7.6 environment feel free to ask me for feedbacks or tests if
needed.

--Albums

Menus are displayed correctly and works as intended if the correct
library is activated via (Extra/Multibrary or at startup if [ask for
library option] selected)
But If [Other Music] library is activated then Classical Music menus
are, logically, displaying the Other Music contents.

Questions:
1)Is it possible to activate one or other library directly, depending
on the menus choosen, without action on Extra / Multilibrary ?

2)How to activate library on the controller (extra/multilibrary not
displayed)

Regards

[SlimDevices: Plugins] CustomScan / 7.3.3 Nightly = Error during SC startup ?

2009-02-10 Thread volpone

Hello,
I’m using Erland’s excellent plugins and especially CustomScan V2.5 on
SC 7.3.3 Nightly [v7.3.3, r24799 on Vista SP2 32] on a quite powerfull
PC (3MHz / Ram 3Go).
My library is around 40K mp3 tracks.

Each time I restart SC server, startup process is very long ( 1H) ,
due to CustomScan synchronizing data ...
Looking at the server log two points seems not correct:
+ IO error on a cached file ?
+ Database timeout ?

Here is the server log extract during SC startup process :

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] SqueezeScrobbler 1.2.2 not working in SqueezeCenter 7.3.2

2009-02-02 Thread volpone

I'm running SS 1.2.2 with SC 7.3.3-24799 (Synology NAS) and i'm located
in Paris (France):
= LastFM account and SS 1.2.2 plugin setup seems OK
= SC squeezescrobbler WebUI (SC page) seems OK

Following is server log extract:

Plugins::SqueezeScrobbler::Scrobbler::Session::parseHandshakeResultFromContent
(690) AudioScrobbler Error: Login Failed! Check login details.

Seems to be a login failure but i managed to change it, and this
same account works perfectly from LastFM web and Iphone apps;

Recently Played is working with SC, and no errors displayed (except
server logs warning)

Any input on why it is impossible to hear the LastFMradio ?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] CustomScan / Browse plugins and m4a custom tags ?

2008-10-01 Thread volpone

Hi, I'm adding custom tags to my classical music collection :
+ WORK
+ MOVEMENT
+ ENSEMBLE
+ LABEL

That's works perfectly with FLAC files but not with M4a(AAC)files: Tags
are correctly read in MP3tag and Foobar but not recognized via
Squeezecenter or CustomScan / CustomBrowse.

I have several hypothesis:

- Something is misconfigured in my system ?
- M4a well known limitation ?
- Squeezecenter issue ?
- CustomScan / Browse plugins issue or limitation ?

Any help ?
Nota: Regular tags in M4a and custom tags in FLAC are correctly read.

Regards

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] CustomBrowse and CustomScan don't work with in tags

2008-09-05 Thread volpone

Erland,
I've managed to deal with the duplicates Composers and Artists menus
issue (sse my previous post). It seems i will solved it.

It was because i've performed some additional localization modification
on the builtins menus (VS the wiki regular procedure) and probably made
some mistakes editing directly the files (not using CB WebUI). Results
is several instances of the same menus.

However could you please tell me:

+ What are multilibrary and library Object Types ?

+ Are the files naming scheme signifiant when creating a new menu ?

+ What is the status of Builtins menus because some header/footer
i've created seems to appears as Builtins in CB web management UI.

As you see i'm not perfectly understanding how CB works but i'm in the
way ... and it seems very powerfull and precious.

2008-09-02 Thread volpone

Erland, one more time, thank you.
Mains menus and localized headers are now OK.

Next i've tried to create the contextual tracktype objects following
the tutorial to deal with Song Info (track selected).

I've only introduced some localization in name and prefix and added a
4th level (Artist) for the Genre menu (to deal with different Work
version).

- Classical_Work... idcustomscan_trackmixedtags/id
- Classical_Compositeurs... = idcustomscan_trackmixedtags/id
- Classical_Artistes... = idcustomscan_trackmixedtags/id
- Classical_Genres... idcustomscan_trackcustomtagtracks/id

As documented i've also tried to desactivate the initial standard menus
by setting the library parameter to nonclassical(2) for the following
menus:
- Track/Artist = idtrackartists.xml/id
- Track/Composer = idtrackartists.xml/id
- Track/Genre = idtrackgenres.xml/id

In SB player interface menus are working, but for Artist and Composer
both Classical and Standard menus are displayed and i did'nt found a
way to get ride of these 2 standards menus. (Genre menu is not
duplicated).

Any ideas ?

Others menus and headers are OK. SC works perfectly.

It might also be that your libraries isn't defined correctly. If a

 entries.

Attached the 2 libraries configuration files. For me it seems OK but if

Full rescan solved the problem, thank's Erland !

No change at the OS level, but upgrading SC from 7.1.1 to 7.2 and

Yes they did, only CB menus were affected (before the full rescan)

Thank you for you quick assistance.
I'm now will go forward in my setup following your tutorial for

Your plugins are very powerfull but some complete reference on

I obviously know this is very tedious to write and maintain

CustomBrowse = V2.3

I'm trying to setup menus to browse classical music as described in

For example:
ARTIST

...WORK
SONG

That's work on much case except when WORK contains accentuated
characters like é,è,ä,ê ... (french and german work title)

These specials non ascii characters are correctly displayed at the
WORK level, but when selecting to play or to browse WORK:

- WEBUI = warning message No matching songs, albums or artists were
found
- CONTROLER = empty list
- SB PLAYER = nothing happens

Looks like very much the DIP german umlaut problem.

Any workaround or misconfiguration ?

PS: I encountered other cosmetics problems with header/footer
context values displayed as non accentuated characters in song info but
i have to solve first the play and browse issue.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Scan, Browse and Multilibrary Plugins = SB3 display go Blank ?

2008-08-02 Thread volpone

I’m just beginning to use Erland’s excellent CustomBrowse(2.2),
CustomScan(2.1) , and MultiLibrary(2.1) plugins to enhance my FLAC
classical music browsing.
I configure plugins according to wiki example “setup browse menu for
classical music” but only create a new “composers” menu (not
customizing song info nor now playing).

Seems to works and I’m very happy with the functional results but
noticed some strange side effect:

+ SB3 screen sometimes go entirely black after few seconds in use
(controller works) !

+ Warnings about MultiLibrary and CustomBrowse in server log (see
later)

I don’t know if the SB3 display going black is related to the plugins,
misconfiguration, or other cause because I just switch to the new 7.1
(7.1.1) SC version.

Any ideas ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] How to install MusicInfoSCR ?

2008-06-12 Thread volpone

Hi,
I'v tried to install MIS (v4.1.1) on SC 7.1 (20582)/ Linux:

- MIS seems to work because (SB3 display changed)

- PLUGIN_MUSICINFO (v4.1.1) appears under SC setting/plugins

But i'm unable to setup configuration:

- Strings are missing on SC webadmin combo box under setting/player
(blank line)

- Server log: [08-06-12 23:54:20.6299] Slim::Utils::Strings::string
(397) Error: missing string PLUGIN_MUSICINFO

Some help or workaround ?

Regards

Hi Poul Agerbek,
I'm very interested in the answers.
My first hypothesis on DS207+ hibernation issue with SC7 was memory
swap activity, but many other explanations are possible.

I've also noted the following fixed bug in the new nightly build
release SC7.0.1-18321:

= server.prefs re-written every 5 min. and prevents HDD spin-down

But my DS207+ still doesn't hibernate, never ending story !
