Cool - there is also a thread on the Netgear NAS forum about AAC enabling which looks as if it SHOULD be possible. It's here: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=26302 to summarise - this is today a mess on the NAS (more so on the DUO than the PRO and absolutely nothing to do with the SC people) and I for one don't want to start hacking my NAS at this point, I'll use 0.9a instead, follow the thread and wait until a proven solution emerges for AAC support. I'd like the chance to see if the quality improvement is great. But other Netgear NAS users may want to lead the way - if so please do post either here or on that thread. -- trautigan trautigan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17162 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67151 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I'm using a Mac. I guess anything's going to be slower than the almost "instant on" that I'm used to. Although to be fair, the "favourites" issue may have clouded my judgement on this one - I didn't do much testing after I hit that issue and quickly reverted back to 0.7. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer 0.9 and favorites
The start up time for trascoding is slower on a windows server than a linux one - so suspect you are using windows? If you want to use wma streams for live streaming, then you could also use the BBC streams which are part of the Other radio streams menus which are the wma streams. I will make it so that wma/mp3 is used when aac is not available, if you disable the aac file type this will allow it to fall back to wma, but I was trying to avoid having a settings page for this plugin. -- Triode Triode's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67151 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer 0.9 and favorites
Understood - thanks. I would personally prefer if we had the option to choose streams in future versions - since I generally listen to "talk" stations (Five Live and Sports Extra) the super fast startup time is of much greater value than slightly better audio quality. Of course, those that listen to BBC music radio may have a different opinion. cheers Chippy -- Chippy Chippy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=247 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67151 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer 0.9 and favorites
0.7 uses WMA for the live streams, 0.9 uses FlashAAC which are potentially better quality but may take longer to start up due to additional transcoding. Favorite issues for 0.9 should be fixed with 7.4 when it is released. I will look at falling back to wma if aac can't be played for live streams. -- Triode Triode's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67151 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

0.7 works great for me. I take back what I said about radio startup taking less than 2 seconds - it's less than 1! :) Using 0.9 had caused me problems with favourites, but also took much longer to start playing the radio stream, and occasionally failed when trying. Forgive my ignorance - I don't know if this is transcode related or not. I just know that 0.7 gives a great user experience. Yet it was the very "low-powered" feature that attracted me to the NAS - I want something that runs quietly in the background, uses little resources (environmental and system),but yet is fully featured. Low power ain't always a bad thing - it may even be the future. Couldn't there be an option switch in the iPlayer plugin so that the user could choose between AAC and MP3? Or maybe the plugin could choose automatically (if AAC fails then default to MP3) Or is that a lot of work? I'm a big fan of this plugin and it does seem a shame to have to go backwards. I have the same issue - having just upgraded to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, I thought the problem was related to that. I must have updated from an older version of iPlayer to 0.9 without realising. The ability to use favourites is a killer feature on the Boom. It means I can go from 'standby' to listening to Radio 5 Live in about 2 seconds - including all buffering.
