Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.3.0 - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2018-11-18 Thread Michael Herger

Thought it's based on librespot and Spotify-connect-web which do use
python

librespot is written in Rust, doesn't use Python. Spotify-connect-web is
some outdated project.

Hi my spotty 2.60 on LMS 7.9.1 has stopped working - its not showing /
advertising connect nodes.

I think I may have messed up my python install.

How can I debug / see logs to see why spotty is not advertising the
connect nodes?

My python version is 3.5.2.

Thanks

I just want to chip in that I sometimes experience the same kind of
“stops” with Spotify’s app running on the iPhone as I commute to work.
So Spotify themself have problem with this.

And I also wish to take the opportunity to thank Michael for excellent

Not about the messages themselves, but about their number.

Can I make it stop (it's disturbing)?

Yeah, that shouldn't happen. What is your log setting for Spotty? It
should be set to WARN under normal circumstances.

Additional info:
Hardware: Raspberrypi3
spotty version 2.6.0
Operating system: piCore - EN - utf8

Is this pCP?

Platform Architecture: armv7l-linux

You should probably update LMS, too.

Thanks again for your continued work. I switch my Pi off when not in

disable and enable 'Spotify Connect' for my Pi to be visible to my

Could you please send me your server.log.zip (from Settings/Information)

What OS are you running? Could it be LMS is starting before the Pi has

came home, connected the players from Spotify app, played one song,

Spotify was disconnected but I still saw the players, connected again.
Spotify shows progress bar, but I get no music.
Only 3 instances of spotty-hf -c to be seen.
connected to "This Computer" connected back to players: Lalala.
6 spotty-hf running

running as in "not in standby", actually.
all players are continuously plugged in and I only switch them on and
off by remote control.
So problem persists: in the morning all 3 PIDs were still present but no
players available in the Spotify app.
I could only connect some time after I woke up one player from standby.

this morning I could reconnect to the players from spotify without
restarting.
I noticed though that it took very long for the connect option to appear
after I switched on the first player.
Without a player running there is nothing to connect to in spotify.

Is your computer going to sleep at night? Here's a message I'm seeing
when Spotty tries to refresh the access_token it needs in order to
access the API: "failed to lookup address information: Temporary failure
in name resolution". As if at the moment it tries to connect the network
wasn't fully ready yet. Subsequently various calls fail.

In infrequent intervals, mostly overnight, Spotty connect goes away.

I can still stream music from spotify to the SB, but the players do not
show up in the spotify app to connect to. In htop I see 3 instances
"spotty-hf -c".
Still RPi 3, Stretch Lite, Spotty 2.4.4

when I untick the connect box for one SB in the Settings, apply the
settings, tick the box again, apply again, connect appears again and I
can stream music from the spotify app to my players. In htop I see 3
"spotty-hf -c" and 3 "spotty-hf -n Squeezebox"

If you really did all of this, then there should be much more in the log

down the helper. If you're using syncing, then please try without it.
Would you happen to have more than one LMS in your network?

I did a regular Raspbian update and rebooted and the shutting down
messages went away.
I now get every minute

Code:

  [18-09-18 08:10:05.5009] Plugins::Spotty::Connect::DaemonManager::initHelpers
(99) Initializing/verifying Spotty Connect helper daemons…

Before I started a player there were three instances of "spotty-hf -c
/var/lib" all with stable PIDs.

After I started and stopped one player there was a fourth instance, also
with stable PID.

When I run htop I see three lines with "spotty-hf -c /var/lib…" in them,
when all players are off and no music plays.

Ok, can you, with logging still enabled, breaking up the sync group,
then re-sync?

That's wrong. It must be failing to stop them for whatever reason,
that's why you'd see those repeated "Shutting down..." messages without
the "Need to start..." (or similar) line. Can you confirm that those
three processes would keep their PIDs?

I have all three players ticked in Spotty Settings under Spotify
Connect.
When I run htop I see three lines with "spotty-hf -c /var/lib…" in them,
when all players are off and no music plays.
When I start a player to play music from spotify, I get additional three
lines of "spotty-hf -n Squeezebox -c /var/lib…"

Is FLAC broken in the latest nightly?

It seems to require a more recent glibc than what your system has. This
has nothing to do with Spotty. Please post to another (new) thread
specific to this problem. Maybe there's an OS update for your NAS?

As for Spotty: you might be able to re-surrect it by disable transcoding
to flac. Go to Settings/Advanced/File Formats and disable "spt -> flac"
transcoding (leaving "spt -> pcm" enabled).

Ok, that would explain part of what you've been seeing. What I don't
understand though, is why Spotty thinks it needs to shut down a helper,
when it doesn't start it.

Could you please check your system and see how many spotty instances
there are running when your players are synced?

not sure what "Connect enabled" means.

I can't recommend using a B1 to run LMS and Spotty. While spotty-hf
seems to be running in my limited test case (piCorePlayer), you might
run out of memory, experience slow processing etc.

What OS are you using?

tc@Gizmo-Muzak:/mnt/Muzak/slimserver/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotty/Bin/arm-linux$
sh ./spotty-muslhf

No error in this case? What kind of storage is this?

-rw-rw-r--1 tc staff 3821952 May 22 14:44 spotty
-rw-rw-r--1 tc staff 4483160 May 19 06:48 spotty-hf
-rw-rw-r--1 tc staff 3827080 May 19 09:08

spotty-muslhf

These files are missing the executable flag. Which means the system
wouldn't even recognize them as executable binaries. Make sure the
installation folder is on a filesystem which correctly supports these
file attributes. Eg. no FAT formatted USB stick.

Hi Michael,

recently upgraded to Spotty v2.4.4 which works most of the time. I get
random drops I still have to capture better in the logs.

What does strike me, however, is that even if I don't run any SBs or
play any music Spotty goes:

Code:

Does the Spotify icon not appear on the Squeezebox touch itself?

It should.

Can't seem to get it to connect from the Android Spotify app as it
doesn't appear in the list of players.
Worked first time from Ipad but we're an Android house.

Kill the app on the Android device and restart. Also: there's an option
to only show local players or similar in the Spotify app. Try to turn
this off.

2018-09-09 Thread Michael Herger

I understand that there will always be some delay, I was just wondering
of the ways to make it as small as possible. I measure this delay
between the time when I hit play button in Spotify UI (on phone or
laptop) and the time when music actually starts to play.

Oh, that's not even what I was assuming. That time has been reported to
be too long in some cases. But it's not to be expected. It really
depends on several factors. The most obvious might be the operating
system and hardware you're running LMS/Spotty on (CPU, memory, network).
What are you using?

The option "Optimize Pre-Buffering" didn't seem to change anything. I
launch squeezelite using -a 80:32:32:1 option on SA RP device, could
that be a problem?

No, it's more about the buffer sizes (defined using -b).

When I play music through Spotify Connect directly on RPi I get ~7
seconds delay.

If this is the time the Spotify app seems to be ahead of Spotty
playback, then please see the announcement. It's something I'm aware of,
but can't change.

When I stream it to SA RP I get ~20 seconds delay.

I guess that device is using a larger buffer than a standard
squeezelite. There's a new option in Spotty to optimize pre-buffering.
It can improve the situation, but might still cause issues under certain
circumstances. Give it a try and see whether it improves your experience.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.3.0 - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2018-09-08 Thread kadimm

I'm currently running LMS with Spotty plugin on Raspberry Pi (I've tried
B+ and 3+). I have two squeezelite clients connected to it, one running
locally on the same RPi and the other running on another device (Simple
Audio RoomPlayer - SA RP).

When I play music through Spotify Connect directly on RPi I get ~7
seconds delay. When I stream it to SA RP I get ~20 seconds delay.
Also when I play through Airplay (using ShairTunes) I get ~2-3 seconds
delay in both cases, so no additional delay when playback is not on the
same device with LMS.

Are the numbers I getting (7 and 20 seconds) are expected or could it be
better?

This is not a Spotty problem. But the plugin manager fails to extract
the Spotty plugin. Most likely because of permissions, as you say, or
lack of the target folder. It's a generic problem with the way you
handle the cache folder.

Can't chmod()
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotty/PlayerSettings.pm

Could you please give me the full server.log where this happens? That
module isn't trying to chmod anything, afaict...

You should probably run slimserver.pl with the --cachedir directive
rather than create a symlink.

Having investigated further I think the problem is that I cannot change
the owner of a directory within a symbolic link. So when Spotty installs
it thinks the owner is wrong.
That's my guess.

Actually I have since discovered that the file lms is trying to chmod
doesn't even exist.
It's like it's not installing properly, but why I haven't got a clue.
I'm not sure I have permission problems as all the cache gets rewritten
if I delete it and start lms again

Hmm...could it possibly the actual permissions on the file itself? Does
the owner have write permissions for the file? Should be able to see
with ls -l command.

I wonder if someone can help with my problem?
I have a symbolic link to a hard drive where my cache is located.
All works fine apart from when I try to install Spotty, I get the
following error;
Can't chmod()
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotty/PlayerSettings.pm
I'm sure it's a permissions thing so I've tried;
sudo chown -R squeezeboxserver:nogroup /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/
But that didn't help.
Any pointers appreciated

Don't know about server load, never tested it, but in my setup FLAC is
less demanding when streaming to a Radio. This might be a server issue
but could also be a network issue. Just test FLAC before trying
different solutions outside the NAS.
To test FLAC, go to Settings--> Advanced --> File Types --> search for
Spotty --> disable PCM. Make sure FLAC is enabled.

-LMS on Raspian Stretch -> 2x Radio
-RPI 3 ('Archphile' (https://archphile.org/)), Aune S6 - Exposure

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.3.0 - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2018-08-29 Thread Michael Herger

The recode process takes a lot of CPU on my NAS (Synology DS414, Arm
CPU) and playback sometimes stops.

How much is "a lot"? 100% for the whole time of the playback? 100% for a
few seconds? What process is using the CPU? Are you syncing players? How
many?

Playback stopping can have many different reasons. You'd have to
investigate further in order to understand what is causing it. CPU load
imho is rarely the reason for these kinds of hiccups.

Is it possible to adjust this or
maybe offload the recoding to another server?

You could run LMS on a Raspberry Pi - which is what I am doing.
