Oh well, it took me a while, but I am now a happy 7.3.3 user. Thanks bpa. I wasn't getting options, as you describe, but that set me thinking. After some digging around online, I found I had to execute a file called lsregister, in a very deeply buried folder. Now Softsqueeze does run for me (hooray!). I presume the change came after an OS update, so it may be that other Mac users will stumble on the problem when they come to try Softsqueeze. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)
I've had Spotify up and running for about a week now using this great plugin. My question is about the quality of the Spotify streams. I realise this thread is about the plugin, but I wasn't sure where else to post. I realise, too, that this forum is for the Squeezebox, and not Spotify itself, but I know that many Squeezebox users enjoy good quality as well as good music. I felt sure there will be others here with views on this. So: I must say I find the quality of the Spotify stream disappointing. I have the plugin settings on high quality, which seems to be 320k of something called Ogg Vorbis. But I find the quality of the streams rather boxy, flat, and uninspiring. They do not compare well to, say, the streams I listen to on the great BBC iPlayer plugin for my Squeezebox, or the AAC+ streams of one of my favourite net radio stations, Radio Paradise, which I also listen to regularly via the Squeezebox. Even some MP3s sound better to me than the Spotify streams. I'm not sure I'll want to continue the premium Spotify sub if this is really the kind of quality they want me to pay for. -- whitman whitman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9053 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79706 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien/iPlayer 6.5.x version terminally broken?
The sub-menus on my 6.5.1 version of AlienBBC, with the recent-ish iPlayer patch, seem to have just gone kaput. Radio 4 can just about be made to respond, but Radio 2 not, and that's the one I use most. I suppose the Beeb have changed things again. I presume that bpa's comments a while back that the 6.5.x version would not be updated any more still stands? Just updated Slimserver 6.5.1 to Squeezecenter 7.2 on my Mac. I want to play AAC streams, so will still need mplayer. It used to live in [home]/Library/Application Support/SlimDevices/bin. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] aac streams on SC 7.2: where does mplayer go on a mac?
Ownership seems OK. Very odd behaviour. If I make a duplicate ('aacpmplayer.sh copy') it says it's a Unix executable file. If I delete the 'copy' bit, it's back to a plain text file. If I leave a space after sh, it stays executable. But I'm not convinced it is. Perhaps I should take a step or two back and give a quick bit of background. I just upgraded from SS 6.5.1 to SC 7.2.1. I am not running Alien BBC as I'm using the BBC iPlayer plugin instead. That seems fine. Some radio stations - from my point of view particularly Paradise and JazzFM - have AACplus streams available, which I think are higher quality than the top MP3 streams. In order to run AACplus streams on my SB3, I've presumed I just need mplayer and this aacpm 'plugin'. But now these probs. Maybe I should be content with MP3. I've been using my SB3 with the shiny new AACplus streams for a few days now, and I notice that when a station (such as Paradise) has the facility to provide a readout on the SB of what's playing (after you press Now Playing), it takes quite a while for the Now Playing readout to change to match the actual playing track. Very useful, thanks, bpa. You say SC decides what to apply depending on what rules are enabled. Enabled where? [SlimDevices: Plugins] AAC+ streams and time delay
Back at the end of last year I asked bpa this question ... I've been using my SB3 (SC 7.2.1) with the shiny new AACplus streams for a few days now, and I notice that when a station (such as Paradise) has the facility to provide a readout on the SB of what's playing (after you press Now Playing), it takes quite a while for the Now Playing readout to change to match the actual playing track. In other words, there's a delay between the song changing and the readout changing. Is there anything I can do at my end to fix the delay? It wasn't like this when I was using 6.5.x - in fact it was a more or less instant change. Bpa replied as follows... It's a known problem due to fact that SC doesn't know SB is playing a Flac stream - SC thinks it is a slow AACplus (e.g. 128 or 48k bit) streams as guesses the amount of music time in the SB buffer wheras SB has a 1500kbps Flac stream and has about 10 or 20 times less music time buffered. Problem is much worse with slow streams. AACplus hooks into SC in an unapproved way to enable the radio text to be displayed - if I used the Normal transcodiong like Alien - there would be no text at all. The method also meant a full blown Plugin did not have to be developed. I do not want to maintain another plugin. I might be able to do something in 7.3 as there have been changes which look promising. I wondered, bpa, if you've managed to make an improvement regarding this time-lag and if it's therefore time for me to usefully upgrade from 7.2.1 to 7.3.2? -- whitman whitman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9053 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63412 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Installed AlienBBC on Mac: no sound
I followed Daniel Cohen's detailed instructions to install AlienBBC (and Lame and mplayer) on my Powerbook running Mac OS X 10.3.9, for my lovely new Soundbox 3. It installed fine, showing up on my browser and on my SB3. But when I try to play a stream ... nothing. Not a single BBC announcer's voice, let alone a programme or music. (The SB is running everything else perfectly, by the way.) Is there something else I should be doing? Thanks bpa. The RTSP boxes are checked. I got the exact mplayer that Cohen suggested, from the alienbbc site, a specific build for Mac OS. I haven't done a standalone text of mplayer becasue I don't know how to. Thanks Danco. 'Checking stream' (or similar) comes up as I try to connect to Listen Live and archived programs, but nothing happens beyond that. I've already upped the radio timeout to 90. [SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Installed AlienBBC on Mac: no sound
Hello Danco. You said... As for tesing mplayer, I forget the exact syntax, which is in the notes IIRC, but if mplayer is in /usr/bin, then just running terminal and typing mplayer followed by the suggested parameters (some mplayer parameters plus the name of some program) will test it. From bpc's comment and my memory, try just mplayer -playlist http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/realplayer/media/fmg2.rpm I've tried Terminal and got this message... /usr X$ local/bin/mplayer dyld: local/bin/mplayer can't open library: /usr/lib/libncurses.5.4.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2) Trace/BPT trap Does that tell us anything? -- whitman whitman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9053 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30717 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Installed AlienBBC on Mac: no sound
Thanks, BPA. The first message indicates a missing library or it could mean the library is named the same in your version of OSX. Is that good or bad? If bad, can I do something about it? The second message: Trace/BPT trap is usually associated with a version which has been compiled for a processor not compatible with your systems. What processor is in your powerbook G3, G4 ? It's a G4, Power PC (in other words not Intel), 167MHz. Where did you get the version of mplayer you installed ? I got the MPlayer for Mac OS X from the AlienBBC site here... http://www.x2systems.com/AlienBBC/mplayer.html I hope all this can tell us more. -- whitman whitman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9053 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30717 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC R2 Replay mono?
I was listening to Radcliffe Maconie on AlienBBC Radio 2 Replay and noticed I had a John Lennon-less 'Benefit Of Mr Kite'. After some fiddling around I discovered that the extreme stereo separation of this Beatles track had highlighted that Alien BBC R2 Replay was giving me one stereo channel, mono'd. I tried it direct on my Mac from the BBC website and Replay was in glorious stereo (with John back at the mic). Is this a known fault on AlienBBC, or have I somehow mangled my settings? -- whitman whitman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9053 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43016 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC R2 Replay mono?
Hello again bpa and thanks for replying. I think I haven't explained properly. Via Slimserver and AlienBBC Replay, I had one channel (the non-Lennon) mono'd, in other words in both speakers. When I listened to the same thing via the BBC website: perfectly OK stereo. And as it seems you also got proper stereo via AlienBBC, I think my settings must have come adrift somewhere. -- whitman whitman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9053 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43016 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
