PM5 and SpamSieve

2004-04-19 Thread Pat O'Halloran

Hi

Maybe I'm missing something but I already had SpamSieve working in v4, I
set the prefs in v5 to use SS but all of the spam seems to be getting
into my In Tray - it's as if no filters are working. What have I done
wrong or not done?

Thanks

IMAP Connection

2004-04-19 Thread Brian Toney

I am using an IMAP connection.
When I send a message it is copied to the "Out" tray on my computer. It
does not appear in my "Sent Items" folder on the server. I cannot move
the copy to the server folder.
I would like to configure PowerMail so that outgoing messages are
retained on the server but I can't figure out how to do it.
Can anyone help?

The new mark as good / mark as spam toolbar buttons (and menu items) will
train SpamSieve, when you have activated SpamSieve from the spam filter

whatever action is configured in the new "mark as spam" preference pane.

Filters to the rescue

2004-04-19 Thread Sherman Wilcox

PowerMail filters to the rescue!

I like to live in the Recent Mail browser so I can see new messages even
though they've been distributed into folders by my filters. With the
recent increase in PowerMail Discussion traffic, my Recent Mail browser
is full of these messages, making it difficult to see my work messages
this morning.

So... PM 5 now (I think PM 4 didn't let me if I'm correct, but maybe I
just never noticed it) turn off displaying new messages in the Recent Mail.

Neat!

PM & SS

2004-04-19 Thread Anthony Sanna

I'm curious about the (new) relationship between SpamSieve and PM5.
Questions...

Is SS part of PM5? Does it still run as a separate application?

When I installed PM5, I got a dialog that my SS scripts were out of date
and did I want to update them - I clicked "yes". BTW: My version of SS
prior to PM5 was 2.1.4. However, after updating, no SS scripts appeared
in the script menu. I moved the old (2.1.4) scripts to Library -> Mail -
> PowerMail Files -> Custom Scripts, and now they appear, however, the
newer SS scripts (evaluate) in PowerMail Additions -> Spam Scripts do not
appear.

Is it no longer necessary to "add good" and "add spam" in PM5?

What goes where?

The messages that were put in the trash before you upgrade to PM 5 are
considered as being in the trash for a very long time (the date they was
moved to the trash was not saved in PM 4), and thus will be deleted on
the first quit. I will try to fix that in the final version, and consider
that they have been moved to the trash when you upgraded your DB (so they
will be deleted 30 days after you upgrade, which is probably better than
immediately...)

OW presented a security warning as well. However, there's also a comment
on that "although the certificate
might indicate a verification problem, the connection is indeed secure".

The problem with the HTML code is e.g. on the Release notes page , where it reads

  http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/
DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

I think the xml-declaration is not allowed in this place, nor is the
DOCTYPE declaration (we're already within the element at this
place!). Safari (and OW) rendering it ok is just pure luck since the
parser is extremely forgiving, but the HTML code of the site _is_ broken, IMO.

See my previous message. I believe you have Full Keyboard Access turned
on in Keyboard & Mouse preferences. Turn it off and this odd behavior
goes away. I hope it gets fixed, because I prefer to have Full Keyboard

Well, many of us have been using builds of 5.0 for weeks or months now,
without any problems whatsoever. And when the release version comes out
(undoubtedly within the next few weeks), you'll have the same conundrum.
So really it's an issue of whether you eventually choose to upgrade to
5.0 at all.

Re: Trying PM 5

2004-04-19 Thread harryo

My PM4 key did not work.
And with the web pages all screwed up
and a security warning on the CTdev site.

I am very hesitant of trying PM5.

Especially not for a trial period that leaves me
with a very difficult migration back to PM4.

My reason for PM in the first place was my love of EMailer
But they tell me that Apples Mail application native to OSX
is very very good.

Maybe it's time to go back home and support Apple again.

Activity now shown as "status" in the lower right corner of the mail
browser. Where it says "idle" when nothing is happening. If it doesn't
show it there, select "show status" from the View menu.

Anybody else having problems tabbing? When I hit tab from the Subject
field, instead of moving to recipients, various elements of the mail
window itself start getting highlighted in sequence. I have to click in
the recipients window or message body to move the cursor there.

All the changes are fantastic. It's wonderful to see a company
addressing so many long-term requests in one release. If there's
anything missing, it's the oft-repeated request for some kind of visual
warning when there are messages in the Out Tray that failed to be sent
for whatever reason.

What do you mean exactly?
If you convert your 4.2 DB to 5.0 format, you won't be able to go back to
PM 4.2 (or you will need to use a backuped version of your DB).
If you use 5.0 with a test DB, you can still use 4.2 with your main DB.

PM5 - So far

2004-04-19 Thread Larry Samberg

I've been waiting for this for a while so when I downloaded my email this
morning and saw the announcement I was thrilled!
Downloaded it immediately and started using it. No problems so far
(thanks to the hints I saw on this list before I tried it).
I don't have a huge mail file, probably around 5000 messages. I can't
tell if PM5 is really faster, but it does not appear to be slower :)

A couple of comments:

1. I miss the little paper clip for attachment at the bottom of the
message window.
2. Did the "Activity Window" go away? I can show Background Processes,
but the little Activity window that summarized the processes seems to
have gone away.
3. Never used Spamsieve before ... seems pretty neat ... but I haven't
quite figured it all out yet.

Keyboard Shortcut for "Remove Read" from RMW

what is the keyboard shortcut for "Remove Read" from the Recent Messages

however I found that I am presented with a 'demo' version. It will expire
and only allow me to have 200 messages. Clearly I cannot beta test the

Just to be clear, repair permission only looks up to permission setting
that is stored in Receipt. This is why you _have to_ run it from boot volume.

The original poster's case seems to be that PM is unable to close pref i/
o because the pref itself might be read-only.

For email use, your account needs to have full r/w access to own account

I have a friend who connects with a PC using Outlook Express to an IMAP
server. On the initial setup to the server, she checked a box that said

put in the sent items folder on the IMAP server. Is there a similar
functionality with PowerMail? And if not, what Mac OS X programs have it?
