Re: PM is not importing all the addresses in the Apple Address book.
The name that I had in the Apple address book was not showing up in PM's address book. However, when I started typing in his address, it showed up with the @ icon in front of his name?? I know PM must have it stored somewhere. -- See you, Steve If pro is opposite of con, then what is the opposite of progress? Men's restroom House of Representatives, Washington, DC Thanks for your message. You said; PM is not importing all the addresses in the Apple Address book. This has happened to me as well. Re: Transporter Malfunctions
The JPEG marker segment being too short (in your case) usually means the download did not complete and the file is no good. Trash it. PM adds the .1.jpg or .2.jpg suffix when there is already an attachment by that same NAME in the attachment folder. (I love this feature). I get a ton of files named image, image.1.jpg, image.2.jpg.etc. I don't know what the .b64 mail is. -- See you, Steve Thanks for your message. You said; I'm not sure that this is a PowerMail problem, but hey, this list is a good place to start. Lately, certain seemingly random attachments, come through in a triplicate, garbled form. Example: My daughter sent me some pictures of her spring break trip to Washington DC. All of the .jpg's came through just fine, except for one file, whitehouse.jpg that appeared in my DownLoad folder as whitehouse.jpg, whitehouse.1.jpg, and whitehouse.1.jpg.b64. The whitehouse.1.jpg.b64 file has a generic icon, while the other two have the standard .jpg icon. However, if I dbl-click on whitehouse.jpg, I get this Photoshop error message: Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete). If I dbl-click on whitehouse.1.jpg.b64 I get this Finder dialog: There is no default application specified to open the document whitehouse.1.jpg.b64. Choose Application. If I try to choose Stuffit Deluxe, that selection is grayed-out, although MacLinkPlus identifies the file as Text PC file. But if I dbl-click on whitehouse.1.jpg, it opens just fine in Photoshop. This has happened before to random .jpg's, and to one had-to-have-it-now Illustrator file. It reminded me of those Star Trek episodes when the Transporter malfunctions - usually depositing the Klingon ambassador as a puddle on the Transporter Room floor. Tony -- Anthony R. That's what will work. Exporting and importing. Now to go through and see what I did. I will spend an evening cleaning out one mailbox. Once I do that, that will be exported to the other two. You have seen the answers as to why you don't see your different mailboxes as you would in the application Mail, for instance. However, you CAN export each folder individually if you like. You just go to File, Database, Export and choose export selected mail folder. If you export to OS X Mail or Unix mailbox then you will get the sort of folder you probably have been looking for. Which can then be IMPORTED into your main PM file. I don't know how to sync so you don't get duplicated messages, but the exporting and importing process is fairly easy, I just went through it. I did find that in importing individual folders I had to reindex periodically. -- Barbara Needham

Mailboxes
Howdy, I've been with Powermail for a while now. I really like the software. I have a Dual G-4 with Mac OS 10.2, a Pismo notebook with OS 10.2, and now a G-4 iBook with OS 10.4. The Pismo is dying a slow death, and I had the need for more memory for the road.. I signed up for .MAC to use the iSinc program, which is super keeping the address books between the three computers and one cell phone synchronized. What I am needing is to get my Powermail folders either synchronized or at least copy them between the computers. Re: Powermail unexpectedly quits....
I have found clicking on the correct address, and then hit enter the entire address you've selected will stick. The cursor will open a new address window, but I ignore it (or add another address). -- See you, Steve Mayer If a word is misspelled in the dictionary, how would we ever know? Thanks for your message. You said; Hi, I have just joined the list, so let me say hello. My name is Steve Cottrell, but everyone calls me Cotty. I am in the UK and have been using Powermail since I moved up to OS X from 9.1 about 6 months ago. In 9.1 I used Claris Emailer and wanted something similar. I settled on Powermail and am very happy with it, except for one intermittent problem Gear: Mac PowerBook G3 FireWire (Pismo) with 1Gb RAM, 20 GB HD running X.2.5 and Powermail 4.2 (I have just updated to 4.2 from 4.1.x recently, and I thought the upgrade would sort out the bug I have, but it hasn't.) Description of problem: In Powermail, I want to write an email to someone in my address book. I key in command + N to open the new email in its own new window. I then write the subject line, fine. Then I click once in the 'Name' field of the 'Recipients' area and type in the first few letters of the name of the person I want to email, for example: 'Ste' brings up 'Stefan' and 'Steve and 'Stephanie'. I then move the cursor over 'Stefan', and click once. This auto-completes the address and 'Stefan' and his email address now are included in the 'Recipients' area. This is what usually happens, but a couple of weeks ago (in Powermail 4.1) at this point, when clicking once on the 'Ste' to auto-complete the address, Powermail suddenly quit altogether. If I open it again and try and do the same thing to any recipient in my address book, the same unexpected quit occurs. Through my own troubleshooting, I found that trashing the usersstevecottrellmailpowermailuser prefs file returned all to normal again.for a while. I have also repaired disk permissions. Worryingly, it happened in Powermail 4.1, and also yesterday in 4.2. Is there anything else I can do? I assume there is a corrupted file somewhere. I have tried reinstalling Powermail again after each unexpected quit, but I suspect there is a hidden file somewhere I need to find? Any and all replies entertained. Re: first or last names?
I have a similar problem and it may be the same bug. I believe it is in the syncronization. I think what happens is the PM address book does not delete items in its data file if you delete the item in OS X's address book. I have several groups defined in my OS X address book. Occasionally, I get an address in the wrong group. If I delete the address in that group in OS X's Address Book, it does not get deleted in PM's Address Book. I have to individually delete each one. -- See you, Steve Mayer Why does fat chance and slim chance mean the same thing? Thanks for your message. You said; I was messing with the prefs the other day, seeing how things worked, and changed the address completion priorities around from first to last and vice versa. Possibly I moved the display name around too, not sure. Anyway. I switched them back to first name, then last name again, but my address book seems to be all screwy now. Some people's display names are listed first last, and some are listed last first. I want the display name to begin with the first name. Now when I start typing 'Jack M..' in the 'to' field, I get Jacskon (last name) or some of the other people named Jack showing up. But the Jack I *want* is now listed by his last name, so I can't even retrieve his address unless I start typing with an M. Which of course I'm not used to doing because I've been addressing stuff to him for months now by 'Jack.' But everyone in my address book has not changed... only some of them. I'm not sure why, and I can't come up with a common denominator. But I want 'em ALL the same - how do I do that without going through and changing them one by one? And while I'm thinking of it... when I control-click on someone's address to add them to my address book, it *always* lists their last name in the first name field. I always have to click on the double arrows to switch them. I'm hoping there's some simple setting to fix all of this?? I have the same question. I would like to use Safari in OS X, not crank up the Classic and IE! -- See you, Steve Mayer Why does slow down and slow up mean the same thing? Thanks for your message. You said; Greets - Have tried changing the default browser pref in the Internet control panel under OS 9.04 on a G4 Cube, with no success. Group lists
Howdy, I just converted my Pismo Powerbook to Powermail. Previously, I was using Netscapes' Messenger and then Mac OS X mail. I liked Messenger, but the browser was old and on OS 9. I tried the upgrade, but was not impressed. Safari is good. Anyway, I needed something like Messenger, and Powermail has all the features plus some. The only trouble I am having is with my big group email adresses getting hung up. The big groups are 185 - 250 addresses each. I have no problem with a group of 25 addresses (my joke group), but when I send the big groups my newsletter, the process stops. I get the window showing the progress bar all the way until the end and that's where is stops. Mail and Messenger sent these messages to my big groups with no problems. Thanks, Steve
