Looks in a similar vein to Servoy and some others. Would be slightly
more confident if they could capitalise the word 'FoxPro' properly.

Includes an embedded cross-platform implementation of Visual FoxPRO

Wonder what that means.

I believe what they have done is implemented a compiler that lets you

Well, it's a nice easy install on Ubuntu. Looks interesting and with
great potential for sure - it sort of reminds me of a non-cloud-based
ApplicationCraft. I'd be curious as to how much support there would be
for third-party controls and extensions. There's no report designer yet,
either. I always wonder why people don't make it an absolute priority to
get a good report designer into these things very early on. It's such a
killer feature if you have it. Also the code editor is a bit basic. But
it's a beta, after all.

ISRLOCKED()

Looks like ISRLOCKED() only works in the current app, so it is useless to

I know I can try to rlock() the record and if I get a lock, then it is not
locked by others, duh ...

But I don't want to lock a ton of records to show status in a list.

Does anyone have an API or trick to see if a record is locked by another
computer ?

RE: Anyone looked at this?

2012-05-03 Thread Kurt Wendt
I agree - a missing report writer is a bit of a deal-breaker. I'm
actually in discussions with this guy about building a very small and
basic e-comm App to process e-comm orders - and doing it in VFP. And,
the guy is pushing to code it in a newer language - like PHP SQL, or
something like that. But, I know VFP - and I can bang out the App VERY
Quickly because I know VFP. But, more so - I already built the App
before - at the co. where I am currently employed - but, I will be
Re-building it From Scratch offsite. And, making it a bit different.
And, its NOT an App that the co. here sells to many clients - it was
essentially a One-Time Stand-alone Custom App that I built. Again - its
VERY Simplistic. Although, the new version will have a number of newer
and more complex features.

So - I am also keeping my eyes open for other technologies related to
VFP. I even spoke to this guy about Fox-in-the-Cloud as another way to
make a VFP App that actually operates in the Cloud and runs as a
Webpage.

RE: ISRLOCKED()

2012-05-03 Thread Dave Crozier
Kent,
All i used to do is add a lock status field in each record and write to it
when a successful lock was applied. this can be seen by everyone else and if
you set an index to the field then it can quickly show you the locked records
in a table. The only problem is if an app crashes out and doesn't unset the
status in which case it will appear to be locked.

This method served me very well on my early accounts package back in the FPW
days and is still in operation in the VFP version without change.

You could also use Mutes objects if the apps are on the same machine, but
unfortunately not on a network:

http://www.news2news.com/vfp/?function=969

Christoff has a good article on Locking and the LockingPossible() function may
be what you need (using API calls):

Subject: ISRLOCKED()

Hello,

I am trying to find a why to see if a record is locked by another user.

Looks like ISRLOCKED() only works in the current app, so it is useless to tell
if another computer locked the record.

I know I can try to rlock() the record and if I get a lock, then it is not
locked by others, duh ...

But I don't want to lock a ton of records to show status in a list.

Does anyone have an API or trick to see if a record is locked by another
computer ?

Thaks,
Kent

You have to attempt to lock a record. However, with the API functions you
can check an entire range at once. I wrote about the API function approach
a while back on my blog:

How they will howl if a company pulls out of a town leaving everyone high
and dry. When ConocoPhillips shut down its gasoline refinery in Trainer, PA
last September, the town was devastated.

An aside issue is that the EPA is coming down hard on refineries and their
regulations are too costly for them to make a profit. Over half the gasoline
refineries have already shut down which will push up gasoline prices in the
future.

Speed is cut down by PHBs substituting relatively cheap hard drive and
