ProTools accessible on PC, true or false?
Hi all, on a French list, someone claims to use ProTools on his PC. I don't believe him, but I thought I would ask anyway. Is this guy a joker? Re: ProTools accessible on PC, true or false?
Not to be rude, but, you might discourage him from filling us in on something really cool here by chastising him like that, calling him a joker. I personally have never heard of this being done. That however said, rather than calling him unneeded names, I'd ask him to do tell. If he is running it, then, with what screen reader, and what configuration changes is he having to make, etc. How is he in the mix window navigating from track to track? Finally in the mix window, how does he move from track control to track control? I'd have him clarify more specifically. In other words, if he says he's doing it, do so politely, yes, but challenge 'em! Well if he is fully sighted it is possible. As we all know, ProTools on the pc is not accessable to the blind as yet. Do we know if this guy is visually impaired? Loops accessibility in PT 11
Hi! I'm sorry if this has been discussed before and if I'm therefore double-posting but I couldn't find something specific on this topic in this group. Thing is, I'm trying to learn pro tools, and therefor I also need to know what can be done and what can't, so I know if it's me who's messing things up or if it simply can't be done with VoiceOver. So to the questions: I'm trying to use loops in PT. I've understood that it's done via the Workspace that is opened with Option+I. But once it's open, I can't figure out how the browser is organized, and I can't figure out how and if I can navigate to the location where my loop files are located. Then, if I at some point will figure that out and it can be done, will I be able to drag the loop from the browser window to a track? If yes, will I then have a chance of choosing where on the track to put this loop timewize? I'm probably wanna use loops most for percussion stuff, like for making an already existing drumtrack more massive or sound fatter in choruses etc. So it's important that I will be able to adjust the tempo of the loop too so that it will match my sessions tempo... Is there any other way of doing it than through the workspace, that didn't seem to be accessible with VO, or is there something I've missed about navigating the workspace? Is there a standard recepee for getting a loop into a session with VO that works best? I would be so happy if some of you had any help to offer, that you wouldn't believe it! :) I've struggled with this now for several days, and i'm almost out of bad language now... Lol! Thanks in advance! :) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Pro Tools Accessibility group. Re: Loops accessibility in PT 11
Hello, I too use loops in a similar manner to you. in version 8, 9 and 10 of Pro Tools the workspace windows isn't accessible at all. There for it wasn't easy to work with loops and i switched to using reaper on the mac instead. As such i haven't spent the money for Pro Tools 11 yet, partly because reaper does everything I need it to, and partly cuz I don't have anyone around to assist with the iLok situation. There are a few ways you can still work with loops, but i found them to be tedious when building an entire drum track for a project though. If you can actually navigate around the workspace window in version 11, its probably just a matter of figuring out how to use it. 1) Import the loop the same way you would any other audio file, once its on the track in pro tools, select the loop and turn on elastic audio for that track and set it to rhythmic since its a drum loop. This will allow it to play back and snap to tempo of the project. 2 use the normal import dialog but instead of import ing to a project import to the regions list, once in the regions list you can use VO's click and drag to move it onto the track you want. Putting it on the track this way should allow it to automatically snap to project tempo. 3 use VO's click and drag to drag it from finder into the project. probably the hardest of the 3 and the one i never really fully tried myself. Re: ProTools accessible on PC, true or false?
Hi Jean-Philippe, With WindowEyes, there is a degree of accessibility but not as good as with VoiceOver. That said, I'm not sure about version 11 because the information I have is based on several versions ago. Perhaps things have improved a bit. I'm honestly not sure. I sincerely hope you get a reply to this... I just spent the last two hours tinkering with Pro Tools, to see if I could figure it out for you, but I can't find the elastic button that seems (according to google), to apply elastic audio to the track... Anyone found this? I'm sure Chuck or someone said something about it working fine a while back, but I couldn't dig anything up on this list either. Sorry I can't help any more. Good luck! No, although sometimes with Jaws I have been able to create plugin presets because I could get into the interface of some third party plugs to load audio samples etc. But for actually doing real work, forget it. Re: ProTools accessible on PC, true or false?
Another thing is that the windows version is not nearly as stable. I have always found it to be a crash fest. And a lot of customization of the interface went into making it work with voice over, which actually replaces many aspects of the GUI. Presenting items in tables and listing plug controls is not something that happens naturally within PT's interface. Add to that the fact that dialog boxes in the windows version for doing stuff like creating tracks and the like don't behave like normal windows dialogs. You do need to click on items and then use the arrows to go across options and such. Yes, the shortcuts are there, but getting feedbackk is impossible, jaws is the only way to get even minimal info, and it is not scriptable or anything like that. Other than knowing whether you are in the mix or edit window, you are lost. Yes, you can poke aaround and get something on an insert of a track with a lot of trial and error, and that is how I created some presets, but believe me, I'm pretty good at doing the unorthodox as far as access is concerned and this is a no go, though there are worse out there including cubase. As we all know, ProTools on the pc is not accessable to the blind as yet. Do we know if this guy is visually impaired? I don't remember reading in that e-mail saying that he is blind. -Original Message- From: ptaccess@googlegroups.com [mailto:ptaccess@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Jean-Philippe Rykiel Sent: 18 May 2014 11:01 To: ptaccess@googlegroups.com Subject: ProTools accessible on PC, true or false? Hi all, on a French list, someone claims to use ProTools on his PC. I don't believe him, but I thought I would ask anyway. Is this guy a joker? Re: ProTools accessible on PC, true or false?
Oh a long time ago around version 6, some things worked because the transport graphics had labels we could read with Jaws and tell what color they were. But now there is virtually no way to know if a track is armed or even what track is currently highlighted. There is no object level navigation because PT is a mac application first, and then it is ported over to PC with no regard to standard windows controls or hiarchy. Excuse my spelling Nicole, I don't have spell check turned on on the mac because it steps all over voice over as you are typing and haven't completed a long word yet. That said, I'm not sure about version 11 because the information I have is based on several versions ago. Perhaps things have improved a bit. I'm honestly not sure.
