Nope, home and end takes you to the beginning and end of the file respectively,
at least that’s what the help says. And in IOs, the browsing may be good, but
if you can’t select and edit portions of the sound that’s a deal breaker.

Subject: OT: further findings about TwistedWave

 Hi all,
I got a really helpful mail this morning from Twistedwave support. Firstly
they seem open to accessibility concerns and said they would consider my
suggestions on scrubbing and other things for the future. Then they told me
about some undocumented keyboard shortcuts that can come in handy: You can
actually select small portions from the sound file using shift + left and
right arrows. Secondly you can scrub by shift+command clicking anywhere in
the wave form rather than having to locate the ruler that you drag in in
order to scrub. ”But the wave form isn’t visible” i hear you ask, and it is
true, however there’s an indicator or rather a text that tells you sample
rate, bit depth etc, go up from there with your physical mouse or track pad
until you hear ”name of project, window” where ”name of project” is the name
of your audio file and there is your wave form.
 Now to my own findings:
It’s good if you turn cursor tracking off when playing with Twistedwave.
You may also want to consider setting ”cursor moves back after playing” to
checked. That way the cursor seems to move back to the play head when you
stop playing and i think though i can’t be certain about this, that this
 makes it easier to scrub.
By default it looks like the wave form is very small so when you select, you
select in very long distances, so just like in all other wave editors, adjust
the zoom so the waveform gets bigger.
The edit short cuts dialog isn’t a loser after all, it’s quite smart in fact.
The way the dialog works is like this: You go into the dialog for editing
shortcuts, then it tells you to select an item from the menu to edit its
short cuts. VO+m to the menu bar and then go to a menu and select the menu
item you want to edit just as you would if you wanted to choose something
from that menu. Now another dialog pops up asking you for the keyboard
shortcut. Enter the shortcut you want and the dialog will close and you’re in
the main window. Now here’s a little tricky bit, because the edit shortcuts
dialog stays open however it’s not in focus so whatever you do do not select
an item from a menu because then you will be asked for a new shortcut for
this item. Instead use the window chooser, vo+f2 twice in rapid succession
and you’ll be in the window chooser menu, go down the menu until you hear
”edit shortcuts” and choose that item. Now you’ll be in the edit shortcuts
dialog again and you can ok the choices you’ve made or revert to default
short cuts or cancel the dialog alltogether.
What i’d suggest you do is to set up a shortcut for going to start and end of
selections, those shortcuts will come in handy when you edit.
 Hope this makes any sense.
Now here’s where i need your help guys: Could someone who works with
Twistedwave please help me explain to the devs in a technical way how to make
the wave form visible to VO? I don’t think you can make the wave form itself
visible so that you can interact with it and do fun stuff, although that
would be cool but one could do as they have done in some audio editors in IOS
where the wave form is, Voiceover says ”wave form”.
As i said, i hope any of this made sense.

Yes home and end takes you to the start and end of a file respectively. However
there are go to start of selection and go to end of selection shortcuts you can
use for this. They don't have shortcut keys assigned however so you will have
to do this first.

2014-08-06 Thread Krister Ekstrom
For me, and this is for me personally for 2 reasons, one of which may even be a
misunderstanding so let's begin with that:
1: Protools is first and foremost an environment for creating music in whilst
TwistedWave seems to be some kind of a general purpose editor and even if this
wasn't the case i still haven't come off the ground with pro tools which i
think is scary, daunting and confusing, a sign that i'm getting old. The main
reason now why i haven't come off the ground with PT is that i'm afraid to the
point of panic, ahem no that was maybe overdoing it a little, but i'm scared
for some reason to use my Digi003 without knowing what i do with it. I'm trying
to make the 003 accessible with the Surface reader application, but it's slow
going. Besides it's good to have many tools in your arsenal, right?

Why use tools like Twisted Wave?

2014-08-06 Thread Satauna Howery
Hi, Slau, Chuck and others,

This is a great question. For me, tools like Twisted Wave keep things
simple, and sometimes that's all I need. I do a lot of voiceovers, and when
I'm managing a project like an audiobook or long form eLearning, or if I'm
dubbing or voicing to time in an already made video, ProTools makes sense.
When I'm just tossing out 15 to 30 second auditions in .mp3 to prospective
clients, I don't need anything but a single mono track. I don't really have
to do any processing on it. I do have to clean up breaths, mouth noises,
etc, and when I do that, ProTools default behavior is simpy to remove the
audio but keep the silence in the track. Often I want to remove the audio
AND the time. That can certainly be done in ProTools, but in simpler tools
it just happens with less keystrokes.

I am absolutely willing to concede that I have not exhausted all ProTools
options and that I am no PT expert. PT is a work in progresss for me. I
play with it when I can, which isn't as often as I'd like given my work
load. I definitely see its value though, even for small stuff.

a couple of pt questions

2014-08-06 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello all,

I'm getting ready to jump back in to protools tomorrow after listening to
the protools with speech tutorials. I have to record a couple of keyboard
parts tmorrow andI had a couple of questions.

1. I'm going to need to import a tracking mix in to my session, and I
was wondering how the import dialog looked. When I tried using it before,
it was a little confusing so was wondering how that wrked.

2. I'm going to have tw audio tracks, which are going to be a left and
right string tracks coming out of my keyboard in t my interface. I'm
assuming that both tracks need to be selected in the track list table in
order to record on them at once. Can't remember the command to select a
track that is right beside the other tack that you have selected. I'm using
PT10.0.

3. My last question has to do with exporting. I'm going to need t
have to export both of my string tracks out of pt. I know that I would use
the bounce to disc option, but what's the best way t just bounce out
individual tracks out of my session and not the entire mix which for me in
this case would also include my tracking mix. Thanks for the help guys.
I'm a little nervous about jumping in to this, but what better way to start
learning the daw again but jump in. It's been a while since I have used
this daw. Thanks,

Brian

Right. I can certainly appreciate a tool that does one thing and does it well.
The price is, of course, a plus and the fact that the developer is considering

RE: a couple of pt questions

2014-08-06 Thread Brian Howerton
Hi Slau,

Thanks for this informative answer. It was very helpful. One question. If
I create a stereo track, when I export the track out, will that track be
exported as one stereo track or as 2 mono tracks labeled left and right.
Thanks again Slau,

Subject: Re: a couple of pt questions

Hi Brian,

See my comments following your questions.

On Aug 6, 2014, at 12:12 PM, Brian Howerton bshowert...@gmail.com
mailto:bshowert...@gmail.com wrote:

1. I'm going to need to import a tracking mix in to my session, and I
was wondering how the import dialog looked. When I tried using it before,
it was a little confusing so was wondering how that wrked.

Press Command-Shift-i to bring up the Import Audio dialog. This will be a
standard dialog and you should know how to navigate to the files you wish to
import. Press Return on each file you wish to import then move to the Done
button and click once. You'll probably get another dialog asking where to
import the files. The default location will be the Audio Files folder in
your session so just press Return again. Finally, you'll get a dialog asking
whether to import to a track or to the Regions list. The first radio button
(which has the letter t associated with it) should be selected and then hit
Return. A new track or tracks will come up with the files you selected.

I'm using
PT10.0.

I'm not sure why you don't just create one stereo track and enable it with
one record button. At any rate, a track doesn't necessarily need to be
selected in order to record to it. One does have the added advantage of
being able to use a couple of shortcuts for record-enabling the track but
it's not required. For what it's worth, the p key and the semicolon key with
the Control modifier will move the track selection to adjacent tracks. Using
Shift will extend the track selection. Make sure that track selection
follows edit selection under the Options menu for that to work correctly.

3. My last question has to do with exporting. I'm going to need t
have to export both of my string tracks out of pt. I know that I would use
the bounce to disc option, but what's the best way t just bounce out
individual tracks out of my session and not the entire mix which for me in
this case would also include my tracking mix.

You essentially have two options:

A. Mute all tracks except the ones you wish to bounce to disk and simply
bounce them or,

B. Export the files with Command-Shift-e. The thing about the second option
is that you'll need to consolidate the tracks' audio regions first. Make
sure the tracks you wish to consolidate are selected. Select the edit range
from the top of the session to the end of the tracks you wish to
consolidate. Press Option-Shift-3 on the numbers row to consolidate. With
the tracks still selected, use the Export Regions command and navigate to
where you wish to export.

Keep in mind that if you wish to rename the regions before exporting, use
Command-Shift-r to bring up the region name dialog. If more than one track
is selected, it will prompt in order of appearance. If it's a stereo file,
it'll append the necessary L and R to the individual files unless you export
as interleaved stereo.

protools 10 reference guide question

2014-08-06 Thread Brian Howerton
Hello folks,

I know that we have a documentation folder with the protools documentation
in it. And I know where to get the pdf file for the reference guide, but I
was wondering if anyone had a text copy of this guide because I would like
to read it on my braille note taker, and because the file is so large, when
my note taker trys to convert the pdf to text, I think it is getting hung up
during the conversion, so just was wondering if anyone had a copy of this in
a text format. Thanks for the help,

I too use simple audio editors when just needing to edit a quick wave or

I too use simple audio editors when just needing to edit a quick wave or mp3.
I'm a huge fan of Amadeus pro, but I'll definitely check out Twisted wave.

Re: An ILok question, and one other thing.

2014-08-06 Thread 'Hi' via Pro Tools Accessibility
That was the one thing I was discussing with Paul over at Slate
Digital. I'm currently creating all of the presets for Trigger which
will work the same way as Structure and Strike. BTW, Slate is having a
sale on Trigger 2 Platinum which is great for $99. You get something
like 46 kicks, 36 snares, toms and some percussion. Remember, some of
the kicks and snares have 8 mic's that are sampled at 8 different
locations in a big room so you can pretty much get any sound you want if
you take the time to replace your drums.

How would you load different kits and such with trigger in Pro Tools?

I'm assuming there's a ton of automatable parameters for sensativity
and such, but how would you access the load buttons for the different
kit pieces?

Thanks so much.

Re: protools 10 reference guide question

2014-08-06 Thread Chris Smart
Brian, why not just load it into QRead or Acrobat or an OCR program
and save as text. Out of those I recommend QRead. It's extremely fast
and does a great job.

Re: a couple of pt questions

2014-08-06 Thread TheOreoMonster
Hello,

If you select stereo interleave then it will be one track. If you don't it will
be two mono files with L and R appended to the name appropriately.

 Hi Slau,

Thanks for this informative answer. It was very helpful. One question. If
I create a stereo track, when I export the track out, will that track be
exported as one stereo track or as 2 mono tracks labeled left and right.
 Thanks again Slau,

 Hi Brian,

See my comments following your questions.

 1. I'm going to need to import a tracking mix in to my session, and I
was wondering how the import dialog looked. When I tried using it before, it
was a little confusing so was wondering how that wrked.

Press Command-Shift-i to bring up the Import Audio dialog. This will be a
standard dialog and you should know how to navigate to the files you wish to
import. Press Return on each file you wish to import then move to the Done
button and click once. You'll probably get another dialog asking where to
import the files. The default location will be the Audio Files folder in your
session so just press Return again. Finally, you'll get a dialog asking
whether to import to a track or to the Regions list. The first radio button
(which has the letter t associated with it) should be selected and then hit
Return. A new track or tracks will come up with the files you selected.

I'm using
 PT10.0.

I'm not sure why you don't just create one stereo track and enable it with
one record button. At any rate, a track doesn't necessarily need to be
selected in order to record to it. One does have the added advantage of being
able to use a couple of shortcuts for record-enabling the track but it's not
required. For what it's worth, the p key and the semicolon key with the
Control modifier will move the track selection to adjacent tracks. Using
Shift will extend the track selection. Make sure that track selection follows
edit selection under the Options menu for that to work correctly.

 3. My last question has to do with exporting. I'm going to need t have
to export both of my string tracks out of pt. I know that I would use the
bounce to disc option, but what's the best way t just bounce out individual
tracks out of my session and not the entire mix which for me in this case
would also include my tracking mix.

 You essentially have two options:
 A. Mute all tracks except the ones you wish to bounce to disk and simply
 bounce them or,
 B. Export the files with Command-Shift-e. The thing about the second option
is that you'll need to consolidate the tracks' audio regions first. Make sure
the tracks you wish to consolidate are selected. Select the edit range from
the top of the session to the end of the tracks you wish to consolidate.
Press Option-Shift-3 on the numbers row to consolidate. With the tracks still
selected, use the Export Regions command and navigate to where you wish to
 export.

Keep in mind that if you wish to rename the regions before exporting, use
Command-Shift-r to bring up the region name dialog. If more than one track is
selected, it will prompt in order of appearance. If it's a stereo file, it'll
append the necessary L and R to the individual files unless you export as
 interleaved stereo.

Re: Why use tools like Twisted Wave?

2014-08-06 Thread Keith Reedy
Hi folks,

If you are looking for a great accessible audio editor take a look at Amadeus
Pro on the app store. it really does a lot of stuff. With Logic I really
don't need it a lot but for voiceovers and the like its great and works well
with Voiceover.
