Re: Relearning ProTools

2017-05-11 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Brett,
Pro Tools with VoiceOver is very accessible and there are obviously a whole lot
of variables when it comes to interfaces and such. Some folks on the list have
had success with a number of affordable interfaces so I'll let them chime in. A
control surface is not absolutely necessary but, if you want to work quickly,
it'll pretty much be a necessity. On the cheaper side of things, there's the
FaderPort 8 which a couple of people on the list can comment on and things get
more expensive from there. Currently, your more expensive option is the Avid S3
at around $5,000. There's not much in between right now unless you look at
surfaces that don't offer great Pro Tools integration. I'd imagine it's
probably best to go with something like the FaderPort 8 and use Flo Tools to
speed up your workflow.

Protools on the mack is the way to go. They even have a specific set of Scripps
call flow tools to assist with the current version of ProTools. A good
interface and control service will get you where you need to go. You could
spend very little or if you want to do bands thousands of dollars if you were
familiar as you say with Protools that will help a lot.

Relearning ProTools

2017-05-11 Thread Brett Shishkoff
Hey all,

I have a few questions that I am hoping someone might be able to help me with.
I lost my site a couple years ago and I went to school for recording
engineering when I still had my site and now I am trying to get back into
learning how to record and edit in ProTools. I am wondering if the most recent
version of ProTools is accessible and how it works with voiceover on the
current version of macOS. Or is ProTools more accessible with windows and JAWS
or NVDA? I myself work in a radio station As an intern but in July will have a
permanent position. and will be also recording podcasts to start off with. I
would like to help with the editing portion along with what I already do which
is create our content. I would like at some point to get back to recording
music and bands if possible. Also if you have any recommendations of audio
interfaces and midi controllers and if there is inaccessible digital board out
there or do I have to stick with an analog board. I found this mailing list on
Apple vis and the person Chris who answered a forum post seemed very
knowledgeable and said that quite a few of you have been doing this for a
while. I would greatly appreciate any information and recommendations to get me
pointed in the right direction.

Thank you,

Re: Using Flo Tools GR feature

2017-05-11 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi John,
The Inspector mode does not work when another window is open and that was done
on purpose. If the Inspector was on and a user started trying to navigate and
type and use the qwerty keyboard while the Inspector was on, there would be a
lot of confusion and chaos. Ultimately, of course, meters within a plug-in
should be accessible and that's unfortunately not the case and, although Flo
Tools does offer the option to quickly query the gain reduction meter without
having to interact with the track, it's not designed to solve the problem of
inaccessible meters. While control surface users can adjust compressor and
limiter settings while monitoring the gain reduction in the Mix window, those
using Flo Tools without a surface must do the rough math and set their
compressors within the plug-in window. For example, if your compressor is set
to a 2:1 ratio and you want 3 decibels of gain reduction but you're seeing 6
decibels of reduction, you'll need to either decrease the input or preferably
raise the threshold by around 6 decibels. Hope that helps for now.

Using Flo Tools GR feature

2017-05-11 Thread John André Lium-Netland
Hi,

I really enjoy all of the features in Flo Tools, but there is one feature I
struggle to use like expected.

The GR (Gain Reduction) meter feedback from Flo Tools works perfectly as long
as I have focus on the track in the Mix window. But most often when I need the
GR meter values, I am adjusting some parameters in the compressor plugin
window. So, how can I be able to hear feedback from Flo Tools for the GR meter
and at the same time adjust parameters in the plugin window? I guess it might
be possible if I somewhat was able to have both windows visible on the screen
at the same time, but I do not think they currently are .. Anyone has a
solution to this?

Any suggestions are appreciated! :)

Best,
John André

Re: Memory locates table & hotspots?

2017-05-11 Thread CHUCK REICHEL
Hi Sean,
What I'm finding with hotspots is not being able to return to the hotspot and
having VO report properly.
Try setting a hotspot in the groups list and then moving away and then telling
vo to return to that particular group and it will work every time.
Now try setting a hot spot in the tracks table, say far down in the table like
first tom or bass track what ever and vo won't report properly.
I half to inter act with the tracks table and then navigate to the track.
Some times moving from edit to mix window does work however?
give it a try.
Thanks
