I've got the same problem I'm using the puppet as installed by ubuntu 12.04's package manager. The search output provided suggests pre-2.7.14 but I'd like to know the exact version to figure out what's wrong. If you're in a hurry, each module page on forge.puppetlabs.com has a 'Download as a .tar.gz' link which you could use to curl/wget the module tarball. Unpack that into your module path as just the module name. I'm using version 0.3.4 and have replicated the problem. I'll dig in and get back to you. I know this isn't really an answer but if you're just experimenting and don't mind upgrading Puppet, you can obtain 2.7.14 or the latest 3.x version from the Puppet Labs APT repository.
