2015-03-19 Thread Ramon Andiñach
I'll agree that the OS is more likely, but please don't dismiss this completely
out of hand.

Although my case is on Linux, I've recently had a case where QGIS 1.7-2.6
worked fine with my GPS, but come 2.8 it won't communicate.

I can definitely say that the GPS *is* communicating with the OS, and the other
apps I normally use with it are working fine.

My experience with windows is that sometimes, but not always, it can try to
assign different comm port numbers to the same device if it is plugged into
different physical ports between uses. That might help.

The GPS I'm using and recommending right now is a HOLUX M215+ (Remember the

Hi,
You can look at some basic statistics in the layers properties by right
clicking on the layers.nbsp; Those are sometimes wrong.nbsp; Best to use the
gdal raster statistics in the processing toolbox plugins or the grass module in
the same toolbox.
The gdal module in the raster\ menu can sometimes give wrong results if the
.XML file has been created. If you delete it, if will give you good
results.nbsp; The XML file with the statistics is created if you open and
close a layer for the first time.nbsp; Look in same directory as your raster
to find and delete the file.nbsp; Depends on the version Qgis.nbsp;nbsp; Bug
may have been fixed.

Hi Saber

Thanks for that - sorted.

What was confusing me was how to generate the INI file in the first place.
Starting QGIS from the command line with the - - configpath option set to
C:\temp\qgis2 sorted that. And then setting all the options in QGIS wrote the
settings to the INI file (including PG and WMS connections). And this file can
now be copied to the shared drive (or to each laptop).

That's just saved me three hours!

Hi Ross,

You can set it once, save it on a shared drive. And change the bat file to
start qgis with that config file:
start QGIS /B %OSGEO4W_ROOT%\bin\qgis-bin.exe %*
to
start QGIS /B %OSGEO4W_ROOT%\bin\qgis-bin.exe --configpath X:\FOLDERWHERE
USER HAVE FULL ACCESS\.qgis %*
X:\FOLDERWHERE USER HAVE FULL ACCESS should be something like this:
h:\%USERNAME% this is, for example, the shared folder for each user on h: drive
in windows.

For WMS and PG connection, maybe you can set one, save it and share it with
others.

Cheers,

Re: [Qgis-user] DB Manager in QGIS 2.8

2015-03-19 Thread Alexandre Neto
Hello David,

Can I assume that you use fires.id as unique integer value column in
DBManager to load the layer?

Because with your query you will likely get repeated values for fires.id.
That is, each fires feature will appear as many times as lakes within 1000
meters.

If that's what you want, you can use row_number() function to create a
fictional id for your layer. Something like this:

WITH my_query as
(
SELECT fires.id, fires.inci_no, fires.descript, fires.geom
FROM lab.mpls_fires_2014 fires
INNER JOIN lab.mpls_lakes lakes
ON ST_DWITHIN(fires.geom, lakes.geom, 1000)
)
SELECT
ROW_NUMBER() OVER() as id,
my_query.*
FROM my_query;

But, if I understand your problem, you want to show all fires that
occurred within 1000 m of a lake. In that case, each fire should only
appear once. You can use DISTINCT for that:

SELECT *DISTINCT* fires.id, fires.inci_no, fires.descript, fires.geom
FROM lab.mpls_fires_2014 fires
INNER JOIN lab.mpls_lakes lakes
ON ST_DWITHIN(fires.geom, lakes.geom, 1000)

Best regards,

Just keep in mind it's only free if you are using it on Amazon servers.
So you'd have to be running QGIS in a EC2 instance. Otherwise you have
pay to run an amazon server for QGIS clients to connect to.

Re: [Qgis-user] DB Manager in QGIS 2.8

2015-03-19 Thread David Fawcett
Alexandre,

Thank you very much. Of course, it was operator error!

I was writing a quick query for a demo and not to solve a real problem, so
I hadn't really thought through the issue with unique results. Adding
DISTINCT made it work as expected.

A great enhancement to DB Manager would be some sort of error reporting,
even if it was minimal.

Like:
- db error, The database reported an error with your query.
- QGIS error, There is something about your result set that prevents QGIS
from adding it to the map.

Even better would be an error about the selected id column not containing
unique values.

With no error message reported, I just assumed that the plugin might not be
completely compatible with the new 2.8 release. (when really it was my
error...)

Thanks again. The QGIS integration with PostGIS is really valuable and
powerful.

David.

appear once. You can use DISTINCT for that:

 SELECT *DISTINCT* fires.id, fires.inci_no, fires.descript, fires.geom
 FROM lab.mpls_fires_2014 fires
 INNER JOIN lab.mpls_lakes lakes
 ON ST_DWITHIN(fires.geom, lakes.geom, 1000)

 Thanks for the response Alexandre.

 Here is the query:

 SELECT fires.id, fires.inci_no, fires.descript, fires.geom
 FROM lab.mpls_fires_2014 fires
 INNER JOIN lab.mpls_lakes lakes
   ON ST_DWITHIN(fires.geom, lakes.geom, 1000)

When I add ST_GEOMETRYTYPE(fires.geom) to the query, the value is
 St_MultiPoint for all records.

Can you please show your sql query?

Notice that if your query result in different geometries, qgis won't be
able to choose a geometry type for the layer. I advice you to Check your
 results with St_GeometryType().

I am running QGIS 2.8.1 on OSX 10.9.5 using William's binaries.

The DB Manager plugin is at 0.1.20.

I can load layers into PostGIS using the DB Manager plugin, and I can
use the SQL window to execute a spatial query intersecting two tables.
But, when I check the box to load the query result as a layer, fill out the
controls, and hit Load Now!, the layer isn't added.

I get the little black and white 'thinking beachball', but nothing else
 happens.

Can anyone else confirm this? If so, I can file an issue.

 David.

Installed Qgis 2.8.1 last week on XP. Had problems with 32 bit net
install, so used 32 bit stand alone installer. Don't know what
happened during net install as I had to leave the computer during
install process, but the result was a incomplete install. Qgis not
present after install but Grass was present.

Please look into the postinstall.log for any error messages.

My XP version started with error messages because of msvcrt version
conflicts. Deleting the msvcr90.dll from windows/system32 solved the
issue. See
http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/72506/how-to-fix-runtime-error-r6034-an-application-has-made-an-attempt-to-load-th-c
if you run into that.

Cleaning the PATH variable might help too.

textreplace.exe and xxmklink.exe should both be in the \QGIS\bin folder.
Inside a OSGEO4W shell, they can be started.

I still don't know what went wrong with your installation.

If you use the advanced OSGEO4W setup.exe, try again with a fresh copy
of that, or the standalone version. If you used standalone, try the other.

[Qgis-user] Color Preview Modes in 2.8.1?

2015-03-19 Thread David Fawcett
Are the preview modes that simulate viewing by people with different
'colorblind' conditions available in QGIS 2.8.1?

http://nyalldawson.net/2014/05/and-now-colour-preview-modes-in-qgis-map-canvas/

I looked in the View menu and couldn't see them.

Thanks,

David.
