[Ql-Users] Knoware update

2022-10-15 Thread pjwitte via Ql-Users
Its been a while since I notified about updates to www.knoware.no but
there have been a few, most recently yesterday.

Nothing to get excited about, but then the main intention behind
Knoware is to be like a bag of assorted tools: you certainly wont need
them all, some you may never ever use, but theres a chance you could
find what you want should you need to. A good start is to look through
the bag to know whats in there - before you need stuff!

And occasionally, someone finds a nail and thinks: Hmm, what can I do
with this nail? I know, I can build a house! ;o)

Carry on QL-ing!

 Thanks.

More mouth than money, I guess ;o)

In the end I decided to nick and package the code from the Minerva sources
instead of extracting and tidying up my own code, some of which originally
came from Qdos, as Im uncertain about the status of the Qdos disassembly...

Pity its not possible to update the system keywords in Qdos prior to JS.
There must be some way of doing this though, as I believe TK2 updates the
CALL command. Does anyone know a way around this?

PS: I discovered a bug in my source code for the DATE function. Anyone who
extracted this before now should reload the date.htm page. The toolkit is
not affected.

Yes, it's a really well written program. I ran it on QPC2 and immediately got a
smack from my wife for having the sound so high. Great sound effects (uses
Wolfgang L.'s sound extensions)...the slap was very realistic!

The version I tried got into difficulties if you deliberately played it so
badly that the display in the left hand seven-segment LED went below -99, but
that's me and my software destruction techniques!

I don't like Minesweeper as a game, but Per has done a fantastic job and it
really shows what can be achieved - pushing the boundaries as Marcel suggested.

When I moved to broadband 18 months ago, NTL gave me a new address, which
has never been given it out to anyone - except to NTL technical support
when
I had a problem. It attracts about 100 spams a day.

No surprise - a lot of access providers sell all e-mail addresses
systematically.

When I needed a local account urgently when in the USA I set up a
temporary
account on AOL. Within 5 minutes of setting it up, and before sending or
receiving any genuine email, I'd received half a dozen spams.

I think you have got that wrong - AOL is 100% spam free - they tells us.
What you are getting is commercial services.

But the point is - if NTL systematically sell lists of email addresses
why hasn't this one attracted any spam?
