I'm afraid I have exactly the same results with Marcel's 4.24 version as I
do with the new 4.27 version. 'Header_asm' cannot be found - although the
path to the file in the message is the correct path to the file on my disc.

It's all very confusing :o(

I've tried having everything in the win2_ path as well - still the same,
I've tried with and without prog_use and data_use set - and even set
incorrectly - still the same (once I've chosen the appropriate link file of
course !).

Cheers,
Norman.

Stupid remark, but have you checked the case of the filename, maybe qmake
checks names case dependent and is there a difference between the name on
disk and in the makefile... (just a thought).

Jochen,

cheers for that.

I'm using the latest version of QPC - it wouldn't be that would it ?
Did you try it on QPC or on a 'proper' (don't flame me please) non-emulated
SMSQ - just out of interest ?

Marcel is using a 4.24 version which seems to work for him, but not for me.
I assume Marcel is using QPC as well, so I could be barking up the wrong
tree. It's all very mysterious.

Cheers,
Norman.

PS, Could it be that because Per and I are not Germans, somehow the software
has detected this fact and won't work for us :o)

Hi Per Norman,

I have tried your example, Per, created the three files and
assembled them with your settings. It worked!
What else can I say? I've also tried modifying the settings,
using a different Linker - it also worked.

Sorry, no clue at all.

Maybe Marcel can give clues as he seems to be using it
without any trouble, in terms of SMSQ sources.

2002-08-19 Thread Jochen Merz

Hi Norman,

I presume you have accesss to Qmake's source code ?

No, Bernd Reinhardt has. But I'm sure he will be helpful
if you contact him directly.

If so, what exactly does it do to determine that a file with asm extension
is more recent than the file with the rel extension when the rel file
 doesn't exist ?

Compare the file dates.

I've manaully created the two rel files for Per's test and when this has
been done, there is no problem using qmake to run the linker - and a output
file is produced. However, if I update one of the source files, we start the
 whole 'missing file' process again.

Yes, file date again :-)

In addition, I mistakenly HIT on the CONCATENATE loose item, but cancelled
out of the file_select screen. The program then hung with a no-entry
pointer. I can reproduce this problem at will.

Uh, something more for Bernd.

If possible, I'd also like to be able to configure off the 'beep on error'
noise because I'm getting some wierd looks from my office colleagues at the
 moment :o)

... and EVEN MORE for Bernd :-))

Please write to him, if you haven't got his email address, let me know.

He will be coming with me to Byfleet, so if you can't sort it out before,
that would be an ideal chance to get it sorted out there.

Cheers Jochen

Now, you can bet your bottom euro that that file DOES exist! There

 error message.

Like Norman, I have duplicated your test case and get the same result.
However, in my case, I also get the message -XERROR is not a valid
option which I think is generated by QMac. If I'm right, this means
that ram1_abc_asm is found but never assembled and QMake is actually
telling us that it can't find the file it's trying to make, i.e.
ram1_abc_rel...

It seems to me that the root of the problem is the command string that
QMake is sending to QMac, which in turn implies that Jochen, Bernt and
Marcel have a version of QMac that understands -XERROR while you, me
and Norman do not!

The problem with this theory is that I have QMac 1.01 which, according
to John Gilpin, is still the version that Quanta supply...

Per,

found it !

-XERROR and -PC are not permitted options in the version of QMAC that I have
(Quanta 0.10). I have used a file editor to change these options to spaces
in the qmake executable.

Next problem, my version of qmac doesn't accept CHR(9) as a tab character -
it gives 'error 0F Invalid Character' messages instead.

I now need to update my assembler. :o(

I'll have to rejoin Quanta again now :o)

Sorry, but it is not quite our fault if the version which Quanta

to March 1998 (only over 4 years) and, thinking about this,
I am absolutely sure that I told Quanta a long time ago when
I was buying QMACs off them for resale that their version IS
very old and they should update it.

I'm not saying it's your fault. On the other hand, my QMake
documentation does not say anything about the version of QMac that is
required/supported.

Also, it seems rather odd that a third party (JMS) can supply a more
recent version of the GST/Quanta Macro Assembler than Quanta can!

Assuming Quanta can't help, would you be able to update my copy at

Oh, it says you should use it together with the latest version of
Quanta assembler, because older versions don't support all the
features. I cannot really expect that Quanta has not updated
their copies for over 4 years, sorry. That's REALLY something
one can't expect. Anyway, I should state explicitly that 1.06 or
higher is required, to avoid confusion in the future.

Also, it seems rather odd that a third party (JMS) can supply a more
recent version of the GST/Quanta Macro Assembler than Quanta can!

Indeed, indeed. But I was not involved too much in this anyway.
There was a discussion between Bernd and Phil Borman, and all
I remember was me asking Quanta to update the disks - 'cause
every time I got an assembler from them and looked at the disk
it was outdated.

Assuming Quanta can't help, would you be able to update my copy at
 Byfleet?

I'm sure we can sort something out together with Quanta.

[ql-users] S_Edit

2002-08-19 Thread Dilwyn Jones

Ralf Rekoendt has kindly allowed me to make the last commercial
release of S_Edit into a freeware release.

S_Edit is a comfortable and easy to use editor for plain text and
binary files. It's not pointer driven (so no competition for QD Jochen
will be glad to hear) but it's a nice simple to use editor with some
really nice features for simple text handling. I've used it myself for
several years and can recommend it especially as it's now free!

It features block handling, word wrap, binary or text editing modes
with insert and overtype, but Put, margins, space compression (remove
multiple spaces from text files which were justified for example),
merge and quite a few other useful facilities. Give it a try, it's
free for download from www.soft.net.uk/dj/software/other.html

Also on my website, the Wordscheck program is now at v1.92 thanks to
continued encouragement from Paul Merdinian. It's now been tested with
massive text files containing 225,000 DIFFERENT words and I know Paul
has an even larger wordlist on which to test it's word count
abilities!

Wordscheck is available from www.soft.net.uk/dj/software/other.html

For those who can't download such files from the web, both programs
will of course be available from my PD library service.
