This is just to let everyone know that I will be off to the show in
Manchester today and then flying straight to the US show the day after.
Q Branch will not be available for a 10 days. And I will not be able to
access my normal email. You can leave a message on our land line or, in
an emergency call me on the mobile.
Have a good time at Manchester.

I am leaving for USA tomorrow.

Roy, I think you use ADSL with a fixed IP address.

If so leave your machine on, and set up TightVNC server with a suitable
password.
URL:http://www.tightvnc.com/download.html

You can then use any internet connection to log on with tightvnc viewer
using your IP address. You will then get a window with your home
machine screen. It is sensible to set your home machine to the same
screen resolution or lower than your laptop.
You will then be able to use your home machine anywhere from your laptop
or internet cafe.

Both the server and viewer come with the download.
Set up the server on your home machine and copy the viewer to your
laptop. During installation check the boxes 'install as service' and
'launch vnc server'. You will then be prompted to enter a password.
Make sure that someone calls in - and then set your firewall to accept
these VNC connections. ... or manually add the relevant programs to the
allowed list.

We will be setting up a free internet connection at the US show next
Saturday (wifi 802.11b/g and direct RJ45 cable)

I have this system set up on my main windows machine here and am able to
do _everything_ I can do at home (except use CDs or press the power
button!).

No legacy here. Two all new instructions and a label: couldn't do better

Update on AGM Workshop in Manchester, April 17th/18th
 Opening 1.00pm on Saturday.
 Dinner 7.30 for 8.00pm
Sunday 10.00 am - AGM time TBA

A reminder to all Quanta members
If you do not attend the AGM, who will hear your opinions??
I am sorry to say myself, Diana and Arnold Clarke cannot attend, the
journey and cost was to much. The Tulip Inn only delivered their brochure
today which we had asked for weeks ago. It revealed (to late) that they
have weekend breaks for 45 pounds per night rather than the advertised
70 pounds price. Central Trains, who my past experience has found to be
the worst railway operator in East Anglia, had short trains, this meant
no cheap seats.
At the AGM could someone raise the point about the thinness of Quanta
magazine, however I do support the magazine. Hope you all have a lovely
time, do not forget to see the reconstruction of the SSEM (the first real
computer) at the Manchester Museum of Science Industry, I am envious.

 Any ideas anybody

Sorry, no.

The files have been downloaded again and I am informed they are OK

All apparently ok now. Thanks

Well, let's look at its code:

 pt_rpixl
  moveq #err.ipar,d0
  rts

Not as much broken as simply not implemented.

Strange! How can such a simple function fail?

Only joking. Perhaps it should have returned err.nimp instead!

 So - any ideas?

Set bit #30 to indicate that the keys given in 16..19 have shifted to bits
24..27, that way wed at least be covered until 32-bit colour arrives... Or
better, perhaps, set some bits between 24 and 30 to indicate that the scan
colour of a mode keyed in those bits is to be found in an additional
register, the meaning of the remaining keys being the same. Provided that
the legacy trap code ignores those bits, and that no programmer has stored
any other information in those bits, this upgrade would be transparent.

I doubt it. The density is typical, but the functionality is not ;)

[ql-users] Tony - US Show

2004-04-16 Thread James Hunkins
Sorry guys, but need to borrow this to get a message to Tony before he
leaves.

Tony, the hub I was planning to bring is not functional so I won't have
a hub with me. I will bring the long ethernet cable plus a shorter
one. Hopefully this catches you in time to pack a hub along.

See you (and everyone else coming to the US show) next weekend!

Cheers,
jim
