Harry Zink wrote:

Okay, as a disclaimer, maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, but
here goes:

Does QT already perform DNS lookups on both sender (as well as
address lookups, like chkuser), but also on links within the mail, to
both compare to blacklists, as well as validity?

Where do you hone or tweak those settings?

Those are controlled (mainly) by tcpserver. You'd want to look at
/var/qmail/supervise/smtp/run and see what options you'd like it to run.
'man tcpserver' will give you all the options it can do.
The DNS lookups for RBL are (or can be) run separate. Those lists are
controlled by /var/qmail/control/blacklists

Above are 2 different log entries in my SMTP log file. For the first
entry, the mail does not get sent to the user. For the second entry,
when there are two recipients - the mail does actually get sent to the

qmail. The only difference in those two log entries (besides the
number of recipients) is the line/ '@400043cc56e33777ab3c
tcpserver: end 16971 status 256'/. I noticed that if the mail is
successfully sent, it shows '/status 0'./

Could anyone briefly explain to me what is actually happening? What
does/ status 256/ represent?

I do not know why it exits with a 256. The 256 actually means that it
exited with an error code of 1. Maybe they planned for future expansion?
Anyway... Is the message the same both times? I've seen something
similar with CR/LF problems. Oh, and if you show the logs via
tai64nlocal, they'll make more sense:

tail /var/log/qmail/smtp/current | tai64nlocal
I would also check your spam and clamd logs to see if it maybe got
bounced for being spam.

Default language in your distro itself, or in something like Squirrelmail?

If you let the distro set it up, most of them now-a-days are making a
huge / partition. They'll set up say 768M as a swap, and the rest for
the root (/) partition, which is where the home dir is located in this
scenario. If you have multiple drives in the machine, you can set one as
the /home dir (say the 80G drive), and then use the 40G as the / partition.
Some more information would be needed to plan on how to set this up for
a mail server. How many accounts, how much space do you want them to
have, etc. This will allow you to plan for the load your server will
carry. If you have 70 users, and want to give them 1G of email space, I
would allocate 10G for the root (/), and make a separate for the /home
directory using 70G of space, or something close to that.

SV: [qmailtoaster] List all installed RPMs

2006-01-17 Thread Ole Johansen

Hello,

Not 100% sure of what you
meant, but i guess you need info of all packages installed to your system..

Try this:

rpmquery -a rpm.txt

[ It query ( rpmquery )
your system for all ( -a ) installed packages and put them into ( )
rpm.txt ]

Use your favorite text
editor to open the rpm.txt file.

[ nano rpm.txt ]

Another way is using the
Webmin package, a web-based gui frontend for your box www.webmin.com

This gui gives you
possibilities to manage your box and so on right from your www-browser. Read
more at webmin.com if you are not familiar with this.

For FC4 try this command as root:

system-config-language

(if it is not installed, you can install with yum install system-
config-language)

also, put that other setting in your .bash_profile file:

export LANG=en_US.UTF-8

Most linux distros you can run this, type in setup and hit enter from a
 ssh/terminal session.
Most likely you have to have root access or similar to do this.

 Hello again,

Is it enough just for ssh sessions? You might edit your .bashrc

 Like this:
 nano .bashrc

 Add the following line:
 export LC_MESSAGES=en_US

Save the file by overwrite the old one, logout and login

You might take a look inside
/etc/sysconfig/i18n

Alter this file, you have to reboot your box.

Example:
LANG=nb_NO.UTF-8
SUPPORTED=nb_NO.UTF-8:nb_NO:nb
SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun16

I will suggest you to read more before doing anything at:

I have a problem where users get stuck connecting through imap. It
manifests itself as copying outgoing mail to the sent folder getting
stuck forever or waiting for mailboxes to show never finishing. The
client in question is Thunderbird, both versions 1.0.7 and 1.5.

doing a killall -9 imapd fixes it in the short term ,but I was
wondering if anyone knew a better solution?

 Hi Anatoly,

Why do you need to block .mp3?

 Regards,

Hi Anatoly,

Take a look at /var/qmail/control/databytes. It is set by default to
allow messages up to 20MB. Change it to a more moderate value, like 6MB or
4MB, to limit the bandwidth used by your mail users.

Besure to restart qmail.

Nick

RE: [qmailtoaster] SMTP logs

2006-01-17 Thread Riezal Ross
Both messages are identical. It is actually an email notification
service that comes from our physical access control system. There are
options to enter email addresses to send the notifications to. Entering
1 address will return an error, while entering 2 addresses will work.
Previously when I was using Exchange, entering just 1 address will work.

I'm aware of the CR/LF problem as I've faced that before. One of our
notification services stopped working when we migrated from Exchange to
Qmail. It is quite possible that its happening again here. I doubt there
is anything wrong on the qmail side. I'll have to investigate further.

Above are 2 different log entries in my SMTP log file. For the first

when there are two recipients - the mail does actually get sent to the

user. I am not sure if it is a mail client error or something in
qmail. The only difference in those two log entries (besides the
number of recipients) is the line/ '@400043cc56e33777ab3c
tcpserver: end 16971 status 256'/. I noticed that if the mail is
successfully sent, it shows '/status 0'./

Could anyone briefly explain to me what is actually happening? What
 does/ status 256/ represent?

I do not know why it exits with a 256. The 256 actually means that it
exited with an error code of 1. Maybe they planned for future expansion?
Anyway... Is the message the same both times? I've seen something
similar with CR/LF problems. Oh, and if you show the logs via
tai64nlocal, they'll make more sense:
tail /var/log/qmail/smtp/current | tai64nlocal
I would also check your spam and clamd logs to see if it maybe got
bounced for being spam.
