[qmailtoaster] quota imap and imaps

2006-08-23 Thread Simone Marzona

Hi

I got a strange problem on quota with the last toaster. Here it is:

-over imap quota vaules are reported from the server to the client
correctly both from squirrel mail and from t-bird Apple Mail and others

-over imaps the quota still works well but the information of quota
usage is not visible from t-bird and other mail clients. They say that
quota is not supported. Wich is obviously wrong.

It's a configuration issue, my fault someware or what?

any help will be appreciated.

thanks.

Hmm, I had the impression that ClamAV will upgrade it's virust
database automatically
regardless of what version of the actual software you are running. I
did not find a cron job for it though, so is my assumption a false
one, or is the clamd daemon doing it directly? If clamd is doing the
update, how often will it update itself?

[qmailtoaster] lots imapd processes

2006-08-23 Thread Peter Peltonen

After upgrading to the newest qmailtoaster, I've been seing a lot of
imapd processes like this:

 11256 pts/2S 0:00 /usr/bin/imapd Maildir

Last time I counted there werwe 45 of this kind of processes.

Is this normal, because with the old installation I do not remember
having this many processes? Is there now one imapd process per
connection or something?

Peter

[qmailtoaster] Possible to point simcontrol - spamassassin to remote SPAMD?

2006-08-23 Thread Jim Scott
I have a central server that runs SPAMD for my other servers and would like
to setup my qmailtoaster server to also point to this external SPAMD daemon.
I tried to do this by modifying the RPM spec file and adding

--enable-spamc-args=-d 192.168.240.106 and recompiled and installed RPM
but did not work. spamc still us using the local copy of spamd on the
server. Anyone have any insight as to how to accomplish this?

Thanks
Jim

I create an /etc/mail/spamassassin/spamc.conf file with the parameter:

-d remote_ip

In it. Seems to work!

Ray, thank you very much. That fixed the problem immediately.

[qmailtoaster] information on qmail delivery failure

2006-08-23 Thread Steve Ingraham

Can someone provide me with some information on a delivery failure issue that started Monday? Our system is setup so a Linux machine running Redhat AS 3 update 8 serves as an external DNS and external email gateway. It receives all incoming emails using qmail toaster 1.2 smtp server. Qmail then delivers the emails to a separate server running Windows Exchange 2000 that houses the mailboxes. On Monday sometime around noon my qmail stopped delivering mail to mailboxes on the Exchange 2000 server. Below is the rejection notice that was being returned to senders:Hi. This is the qmail-send program at dellapp02.occa.state.ok.us.I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.[EMAIL PROTECTED]:Sorry. Although I'm listed as a best-preference MX or A for that host,it isn't in my control/locals file, so I don't treat it as local. (#5.4.6)

After discussion with some local Linux
administrators they suggested that I insert the domain names okcca.net
and occa.state.ok.us in the /var/qmail/control/locals file which already
had localhost, localhost and dellapp02.occa.state.ok.us in
the file. Once I did that the rejections continued but returned the
following message:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at dellapp02.occa.state.ok.us.I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.[EMAIL PROTECTED]:Sorry, no mailbox here by that name. (#5.1.1)

Last night after spending all day trying to troubleshoot with no luck I removed the okcca.net and occa.state.ok.us domain names from the /var/qmail/control/locals file. I rebooted the server and restarted qmail again; I had previously rebooted two other times with no results. This time qmail started delivering emails to the mailboxes. I do not understand what would have stopped the deliver in the first place nor do I know why the reboot resolved the problem this time when it had not in previous attempts. Can someone give me some insight into what may have originally caused the delivery failures and why the reboot cleared up the problem?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Freshclam is being run as a service, and updates often (I think the
frequency is in the conf file). And you're right, the DB is current even
for the older versions. When a new version rolls out (such as 0.88.4),
if it's not a major security fix it normally doesn't get added in the
packages until the next major update. Otherwise there would be updated
packages almost daily for the Toaster stuff. Give it a little time. Your
virus DB is current, though - you can check this by running 'freshclam'
at the CLI and verifying.

That is an interesting question.
There was nothing changed. I have an external DNS server (the same
machine that qmail resides on) and an internal DNS server (a separate Windows
Advanced Server 2000 machine). The internal DNS server has been causing
various failures lately. I am leaning toward the notion that it may be
causing this problem. Any thoughts on that?

Yes, I think that is why the failure
notice changed and why I removed the okcca.net and occa.state.ok.us
from the locals file. Each user does not have an account on
toaster. It appears that qmail is relying on DNS to tell it where to send
mail.

[qmailtoaster] SA bayes database issues

2006-08-23 Thread Justice London

I might be missing something, but I have searched around the
web and several mailing-lists and havent found anything definitive on
this.

I run a fairly high traffic mail-server. The bayes_toks
database fills up fairly quickly to 80megs (usually its starting to do
it about once a day).

From what I can see the database might be trying to
auto-expire but somehow dies while doing so. There are a large number of
stalled lock-files generated and expiry files as well. Im assuming I
could setup a cron-job to force a (nightly?) expiry via sa-learn, but I would
think spamassassin should be able to handle the auto-expires. Should I look to
decrease the size of the bayes_toks file at which it auto-expires
anything to modify in the local.cf?

Any suggestions would be helpful.

I'm running into this problem too. Mine doesn't fill up very fast, but the
problem appears to be with auto-expire. I don't know if reducing the file
size will help or not, but I doubt it. It appears to me (at this point) to
be happening whenever expiration kicks in. It just started happening again
for me today. The spamd log shows cannot cannot open bayes databases
/home/vpopmail/.spamassassin/bayes_* R/W: lock failed: File exists, as does
spamassassin -D --lint. I haven't found a way to remove the lock and clean
the database. Don't know if it's possible or not. Might be one reason why
some folks move the bayes database into mysql.

My temporary work-around is:
# qmailctl stop
# mv /home/vpopmail/.spamassassin /home/vpopmail/dot.spamassin.old
# qmailctl start

SA recreates the .spamassassin directory and files automatically.

It'd sure be nice to find a permanent fix to this.

Have you tried setting this in your local.cf? :

  bayes_expiry_max_db_size
(default: 15)

What should be the maximum size of the Bayes tokens database?
When expiry
occurs, the Bayes system will keep either 75% of the maximum value, or
100,000 tokens, whichever has a larger value. 150,000 tokens is roughly
equivalent to a 8Mb database file.

  bayes_auto_expire
(default: 1)

If enabled, the Bayes system will try to automatically expire old
tokens
from the database. Auto-expiry occurs when the number of tokens in the
database surpasses the bayes_expiry_max_db_size value.

I'm thinking that the bayes_auto_expire process is somehow broken.

The bayes_auto_expire as noted should be
on by default. This morning while working on the problem I did manually insert
it to local.cf, just in case. I havent entered the max_db_size,
although as such it should be at the default as well. I guess if nothing else
that would be the next thing to try.

RE: [qmailtoaster] vpopmail : user not found / vchkpw: user does not exist

2006-08-23 Thread Jared Markell
I personally have had problems with this as well, when my server is
overwhelmed. I had my sendmail based php webserver email my toaster email
server, sent about 400 emails, 1 to each of my email customers. Sendmail did
just fine sending them, but the qmail toaster server couldn't handle the
400+ near simultaneous connections. Smtp and spamd just sucking ram like
it was going out of style.

What happened during that was vchkpw and/or mysql started taking too long to
respond, so people couldn't check their email via pop3, and other emails
coming were bouncing with User does not exist (which is very very bad).

This is the only major problem I've had with the toaster. But there were
some control files I mod'd (like max simultaneous conections got bumped to
200), and I also increased the max children spamassassin can spawn up to 20
(default is 5). It was able to chew on many more emails at time now,
allowing things to not get clogged up (note that this requires a LOT of ram
and swap..).

Do you know if your server is being hammered?

Re: [qmailtoaster] Strange one

2006-08-23 Thread Eric \Shubes\

I found this identical problem (Yahoo!: Please Verify Your Email).
I've narrowed it down to DK processing. (Josh, did you remember to 'qmailctl
cdb' after changing tcp.smtp?)

Here's what I observed:
The message from yahoo would appear from the logs to be coming through ok,
but the message never arrived. Some period of time later (10-45 minutes)
yahoo's server would try sending again, which leads me to believe that the
smtp session wasn't ending normally. I added an tcp.smtp entry for the
particular yahoo server it was coming from, removing DK variables, and on
the next attempt it came through.

Conclusion: DK processing was failing/rejecting the message. So I look at
message headers, expecting to see an invalid DK signature. Here is the
message header:

Guess what? Apparently no DK signature. Anyone have any idea(s) as to why DK
checking on incoming mail would reject or fail on this message?

After some investigation, I found the same issue that I originally
reported. It shows up in the SMTP log, but doesn't get delivered to the
mailbox.

To delete messages that have a specific score, edit your
/var/qmail/control/simcontrol file. You will see that it has a default
value of 15. Any messages that score more than 15 will be deleted. You
can change this to whatever value you want. If you change it to 8, any
messages that get a score above 8 will be deleted. Don't set this too
low, though, or you may run into problems.

[qmailtoaster] large mailing list

2006-08-23 Thread Jared Markell

One of my
clients has a very large mailing list (1000+ people). Upon sending an email to
it, the system got clogged. It's only showing 50% ram used and cpu is around 5%
average usage so it's should be running as bad as it...

One
question though, a lot of spamd processes are running this whole time, making me
think every outgoing email from the mailing list is being scanned for spam, is
this true?

it's the only thing I see

See results of commands (above) shown below the commands themselves

Ron

Man, this error is subtle. There's a bug in the script that causes bash64 to
include a space in front of the link target names (notice - ld-2.3.4.so).
Much easier to notice when doing ls -l while logged on to your machine -
invalid symlinks are bold red. For whatever reason, bash32 interprets the
leading space as being outside of the variable name when it's not quoted, so
it 'worked', but it wasn't quite right.

I've got a fix for you to try. I'm confident that this will at least fix
this bug.

Edit qmt-newmodel.sh, changing line 783 from
target=${ls#*-}
to
target=${ls#*- }
IOW, add a space after the '', and the leading space will be removed from
$target.

Then rerun the script, rebuilding the sandbox. While the sandbox is
building, you can 'ls -l /opt/qmt-sandbox/lib' after that directory is
built, and you should see no more broken links (bold red).

Let me know how you make out.

 # ls -l /lib/libdl.so.2
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 Mar 22 06:00 /lib/libdl.so.2 - libdl-2.3.4.so

 # ls -l /lib/tls/libc.so.6
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Mar 22 06:00 /lib/tls/libc.so.6 -
 libc-2.3.4.so

 # ls -l /lib/ld-linux.so.2
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Mar 22 06:00 /lib/ld-linux.so.2 - ld-2.3.4.so

Now let's verify that they look the same in the sandbox:

 # ls -l /opt/qmt-sandbox/bin/bash
 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 772760 Feb 17 2005 /opt/qmt-sandbox/bin/bash

 # ls -l /opt/qmt-sandbox/lib/libtermcap.so.2
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 Aug 20 12:18
 /opt/qmt-sandbox/lib/libtermcap.so.2
 - libtermcap.so.2.0.8

 # ls -l /opt/qmt-sandbox/lib/libdl.so.2
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Aug 20 12:17 /opt/qmt-sandbox/lib/libdl.so.2 -
 libdl-2.3.4.so

 # ls -l /opt/qmt-sandbox/lib/tls/libc.so.6
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 Aug 20 12:17 /opt/qmt-sandbox/lib/tls/libc.so.6
 - libc-2.3.4.so

 # ls -l /opt/qmt-sandbox/lib/ld-linux.so.2
 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Aug 20 12:18 /opt/qmt-sandbox/lib/ld-linux.so.2
 - ld-2.3.4.so

Ron, let's back up a bit. A straight 'chroot /opt/qmt-sandbox' should
 work,
and give you a bash prompt.
 [EMAIL PROTECTED] bin]# chroot /opt/qmt-sandbox/
Chroot: cannot run command '/bin/bash' : No such file or directory

Please do these commands on your machine and post the results. I'm
 thinking
 at this point that
64-bit might have something to do with it, but that's just a guess since
it's the only thing I see
 that's different (so far).

I'm confident that this will at least fix
this bug.

Edit qmt-newmodel.sh, changing line 783 from
 target=${ls#*-}
to
 target=${ls#*- }

Eric,
You should include a link to your website (test installation qmt) in your
sig file. I had some time this afternoon on a fedora5 box and was going to
run it. Repost the link if you would and I'll see if I can test build for
you.

Thanks, George.
If you haven't started yet, you might want to use the qtp-* scripts. There
are three of them. Should work the same as the qmt- versions. Same
instructions apply.

Oh, and I guess you got the URL from Erik (thanks, EE).
