Yes, the problem happens not every time... It's intermittent... I've
configured the client to use 587... any clues?

do you mean a problem with the submission port, 587? if so your client is
still set for regular smtp - 25. at least that is what the message says...

[qmailtoaster] Problem with change password in horde

2008-05-20 Thread Gmail
I setup horde to work with qmail, vpopmail (mysql enable). When I change
password through horde's account panel, value in clear text password
(pw_clear_passwd) is changed but encrypted password (pw_passwd) is not.

So, how to convert all clear text password in vpopmail DB to encrypted
password. Or, how to config horde to change encrypted password along with
clear text password?

Here my info:

OS: Fedora core 6

Mail: Qmailtoaster, vpopmail with mysql, horde webmail.

2008-05-20 Thread Eric Shubert
If it's intermittent, I'd check cabling. Possibly a bad connector somewhere
or cat5 cable somewhere with a gigE nic/switch (needs cat5e minimum).

Re: [qmailtoaster] Problem with Submission Port (Internally and Externally)

2008-05-20 Thread senthil vel
It seems the outlook is trying to connect the server with port 25. Also it
seems its using ssl. Please check

Tools--> Accounts--> Mail--> properties--> advanced-->

Outgoing mail[SMTP] = 587(should be)
   25(must not)
If " This server requires a secure connection[ssl}" is checked, the server
must use ssl.

Kindly check this and revert back...

Do you see anything in /var/qmail/simscan/? This is simscan's working
directory where messages temporarily reside while they're scanned.

Interesting query -- it took several checks to find the issue(s)...
here's what I checked & what I deduced:

   # dig ns msa.hinet.net @4.2.2.2
This querey for the nameservers for the given domain (from a Verizon
DNS server) reported NO NAME SERVERS

So, my assumption was that msa was a hostname on the hinet.net domain.
But assumptions are bad, so I checked:

   # dig a msa.hinet.net @4.2.2.2
This query reported an IP address of 168.95.4.211, which means I MIGHT
be right... but let's check further

I tried:
   # dig mx msa.hinet.net @4.2.2.2
which returned 9 different mail servers (msa-mx[1-9].hinet.net.), but
ALL of them had a weight level of zero. This strongly implies that
msa.hinet.net is intended to truly be a sub-domain of hinet.net... so
I checked for a separate zone file with:

   # dig soa msa.hinet.net @4.2.2.2
and I received an SOA record... but wait, it was the SOA record for
hinet.net, not the sub-domain.

So, what have we learned:
1) msa.hinet.net is not "really" a sub-domain for hinet.net. If that
is what is desired, then a new zone file needs to be created, with a
unique SOA and unique NS and MX records.
2) msa.hinet.net is (for now) a hostname (or more correctly, a Fully
Qualified Domain Name: FQDN) -- but a hostname that has MX records
(multiple) assigned to it (legal, but not completel legit)
3) The MX records for msa.hinet.net are incorrectly formated -- I'm
not positive, but I don't believe a weight (or preference level) of
zero is valid. Try a level of 10. I DO believe that having them all
set to the same preference is legal -- it creates a "round-robin"
effect (or at least is supposed to).

So -- at a minimum, fix your MX record preference levels. However,
appearances seem to favor that you're trying to setup a truly
differentiated sub-domain of hinet.net, in which case your DNS zone
file needs to be created and correctly referenced within your
hinet.net zone file.

I hope this helps someone!

Dan

Toaster:

Linux in general uses the match-bail methodology, so it process the
tcp.smtp file in this exact order:

does a rule match the 127.* IP address?
does a rule match a *.*.*.* IP address? (obviously everything does)
does a rule match 10.0.2.*?

So your 10.0.2. rule is never even being looked at. Move it to the
top of the list and recompile the cdb and see if that resolves it
(no, I didn't really even look at the rest of the message, so this
may not be a total fix for you).

Moving the line to the top of the file made it so that I could not
send an email to outside the domain also. Thinking the problem lies
with the Sendmail config.

What does your tcp.smtp file look like now? I think you're missing the
NOP0FCHECK from your :allow line.

Well the problem was that for some reason my mailserver was not reaching
my DNS server for that specific domain, so I added another server to
/etc/resolv.conf and it started working.

I think it is odd though.

Maybe because they have all their MX records listed with "0" priority?
You may need to set a static smtproute to get the messages to go
through. Are you running an older version of QMT? It used to have a
problem with lookups where the MX record pointed to a different domain
name (in this case msa.hinet.net points to MX records located at
hinet.net).

That is weird...

But no load balancing that I know of at my house... :) maybe here at work,
but I doubt that as well. It happens at both places.

I also had a problem with this error -- and it had a REALLY odd cause:

I was logging in from a site that had a load-balancing dual-wan router... so
qmailadmin thought I was logging in from 2 separate IP addresses.
I fixed it in this case by using an SSL connection
(https://mydomain.com/qmailadmin). This prevented the load-balancing router
from load-balancing my connection to the qmail server.

Not likely your problem (Jake's answer is MUCH more likely), but thought I'd

2008-05-20 Thread Helmut Fritz
No, postmaster on all domains gets forwarded to my account.

The password is strong...it happens to me one web page right after another.
I log into a domain as postmaster, go to create a new e-mail account and get
the message. This is with all domains, not just one... If I keep trying
eventually I get to create an account...

That error is okay to ignore. It happens everytime someone logs in using
postmaster.
I've seen this before, but only for 1 of 2 reasons:
someone is already logged into qmailadmin as the postmaster (did you use a
strong password? In the case I was called in to investigate they had set the
password as "password" and someone had "hacked" (it was so simply done and

Does someone monitor the postmaster account (sometimes set as a catch-all)

   # dig a msa.hinet.net @4.2.2.2
This query reported an IP address of 168.95.4.211, which means I MIGHT

I tried:
   # dig mx msa.hinet.net @4.2.2.2

ALL of them had a weight level of zero. This strongly implies that

Linux in general uses the match-bail methodology, so it process the

does a rule match the 127.* IP address?
does a rule match a *.*.*.* IP address? (obviously everything does)
does a rule match 10.0.2.*?

So your 10.0.2. rule is never even being looked at. Move it to the top
of the list and recompile the cdb and see if that resolves it (no, I
didn't really even look at the rest of the message, so this may not be a

Maybe because they have all their MX records listed with "0" priority?
You may need to set a static smtproute to get the messages to go through.
Are you running an older version of QMT? It used to have a problem with
lookups where the MX record pointed to a different domain name (in this
case msa.hinet.net points to MX records located at hinet.net).
