Nobody has written a guide for Fedora 10 yet.
You can use the guide for CentOS and substitute the CentOS portions for
Fedora, or install using the following scripts in this order:

(download all the scripts for Fedora 10 from qmailtoaster.com)
fedora10-deps.sh
fedora10-perl.sh
fedora10-svcs.sh
current-download-script.sh
fedora_10-install-script.sh

You will want to edit fedora10-svcs.sh and either enter your mysql root
password or change the script to reflect what your current mysql root
password is.
Also note that the fedora10-svcs.sh script will install a firewall for
you. If you do not want this, either do not download the firewall.sh
script or comment that portion out in the script.

[qmailtoaster] I'm stuck while setting a Intranet mail server

2009-06-30 Thread Juan Pablo García
Hello,

I'm new to the list and new to Qmailtoaster, so, I'm sorry if I seem clueless.
We recently bought a new server in my company for our database
services, and the old one was laying there gathering dust. We decided
to use it for some interesting services we have always considered,
including Intranet mail and web services.
We have CentOS 5.3, and we were ready to start. I followed the video
tutorial (excellent idea, by the way), step by step. As we wanted a
real Intranet mail server (no external mail send or receive access,
only for internal messaging needs), I just left everything by default
(hostname: APPSERVICES, manual IP config, no DMZ on routers
whatsoever).
I installed everything and after some tweaks I had to do (mainly in
httpd.conf, squirrelmail.conf and toaster.conf includes didn't work
for me, I had to rearrange the lines in the conf), everything went
down hill.
First of all, when I tried sending myself (datasys...@192.168.0.4) a
test message (using squirrelmail), first I got something like sorry,
sender email format invalid, so I thought that I had blew it and I
reinstalled everything (even CentOS) and then now I'm getting 511
sorry, can't find a valid MX for sender domain (#5.1.1 - chkuser).

I think it has something to do with DNS, however, I'm dead clueless
about how to configure DNS... What's worst is that I need to install a
DNS after this (so that the users can send mail without using the IP
address: instead of datasys...@192.168.0.4, they could just write
datasys...@appservices - remember, we don't want any external (gmail,
hotmail, and so on) mail access).

Thank you so much for your time, and sorry if I seem so lost,

Juan Pablo Garcia Hernandez

[qmailtoaster] QmailToaster with LDAP

2009-06-30 Thread John Hansen
Hi,

We currently authenticate our users with an LDAP server for different systems
such as email and thin clients (LTSP). I would like to keep this same set up
and not use a separate user database for QmailToaster, if possible. Most of
our users use webmail, but there are around 20 that use an email client with
POP3.

Does anyone have a recommendation, one way or another, on using QmailToaster
with LDAP?

Pro's and cons?

Tuturial?

Thanks,

John

I imagined a DNS issue as you were describing your local-only
implementation, so I'm not surprised you're hung up there.

The toaster insists that every email receiving domain has a valid DNS MX
record. I don't know of a way to turn that checking off, if there is
one. I'm sure someone will chime in with how to do that if it's possible.

The 'proper' solution is to set up a private DNS server for your local
domain(s). This can be an extension of the caching-nameserver that your
toaster should have installed, although it's not really important or
necessary if you're doing strictly intra-domain email. There is a good
description of how to set up a private DNS server with BIND in The
Linux Cookbook by Carla Schroder (recipe #24.16, pages 510-515). This
is an excellent reference for linux administrators that I highly
recommend. Alternatively, you might google for a howto on the subject.
It's not really difficult, but doing so that it works correctly can be a
little tricky.

I'm sure Jake will chime in on this with authority.

I'd like to say, though, that I think this is a big weakness in the
toaster presently, and I'd love to see us develop LDAP capability for
QMT. I don't believe that it's a simple thing to do though, and I'd be
thrilled to work with a sponsor to get it implemented.

You know, now that I think about it a bit, why does the toaster insist
on a valid MX record for local domans? It shouldn't really need it. Does
the domain in question exist in /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts and
/var/qmail/control/virtualdomains ?

How did you create the domains, with /home/vpopmail/bin/vadddomain or
vqadmin? vqadmin unfortunately is broken, so you might want to try
deleting the domain and recreating it with the CLI vadddomain command.
Not sure if that will fix you up or not though.

Not a weakness, a different path.
Vpopmail does not work with LDAP, and some of the other patches we use
will not work with qmail-ldap either.
There is a project that helps you set up a qmail-ldap server over at
qmail-ldap.org
Since they're completely different approaches, I don't think you can
really give any pros/cons besides what you get from LDAP anyway (both
pros and cons).

Re: [qmailtoaster] I'm stuck while setting a Intranet mail server

2009-06-30 Thread Juan Pablo García
Hi Eric,

Thanks for the prompt reply.
Well, I have read everything you said, and thank God I found a copy of
Linux Cookbook in my local library. Such a nice book, by the way,
(even if I have to return it tomorrow).
I'll be trying the DNS approach described in the book tomorrow. Let's
hope it solves everything (but I have to reinstall CentOS by the way,
just to be on the safe side).
Also, I created the domain with vadddomain (remarked in step by step
Wiki Installation article). I haven't checked the rcpthosts and
virtualdomains files, so I'm not sure (and my VPN connection is
failing awfully).

Anyway, thanks for your help. I'll be updating you about my findings,
and I'm going to document the problem I had with httpd.conf, as I find
it quite interesting: if I left the Include squirrelmail.conf and
Include qmail.conf lines in the end of the file (as the automated
scripts do), Apache HTTPD doesn't recognize any of the aliases
declared there. I have to cut and paste them under the Include
*.conf line.

By the way, the wiki is such a life saver... I almost blocked access
to our local Apache Tomcat server by leaving firewall.sh uncommented.

Thank you all,

Juan Pablo García Hernández

 Hello,

I'm new to the list and new to Qmailtoaster, so, I'm sorry if I seem

You know, now that I think about it a bit, why does the toaster insist on a
valid MX record for local domans? It shouldn't really need it. Does the
domain in question exist in /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts and
 /var/qmail/control/virtualdomains ?

How did you create the domains, with /home/vpopmail/bin/vadddomain or
vqadmin? vqadmin unfortunately is broken, so you might want to try deleting
the domain and recreating it with the CLI vadddomain command. Not sure if
that will fix you up or not though.

Wait a minute. I might be going to sound like an idiot here, but I'll

LDAP is a protocol, not an implementation. You can implement LDAP with a
mysql backend, can you not? If so, why couldn't you have a mysql
database that serves both vpopmail and ldap at the same time? I guess
it'd be a matter of mapping the database schemas together somehow. If
the schemas could not be merged together (a good chance of that I
expect, as the vpopmail database isn't normalized well at all), worse
case scenario would be having to run a process periodically that maps
one schema (probably ldap) on to the other (probably vpopmail). In that
way, you could share authentication data like John is looking to do.

Does this make any sense at all?

[qmailtoaster] Web Interface not working

2009-06-30 Thread J.T. Johnston

I have screwed up the web parts of my toaster while trying to set up a
virtual http domain for one of my other companies. After realizing the
virtual domain was causing a problem accessing the default http server,
I deleted the virtual server. Now, when I try to access /webmail,
/qmailadmin, and /admin-toaster/ my server returns a 'Not Found'
error. When I type in the FQDN for the default server web page, I get
the Apache test page, so I know it is serving pages. I can even get to
the web page for the domain I was adding by using the FQDN for the
default domain and adding /myotherdomainfolder.

The only thing other than trying to add another virtual domain that I
have changed on the server was the addition of an FTP server so that I
could upload the webpage files from my desktop system as I completed
them. The FTP server seems to be functioning normally, and did not
appear to affect any of the config settings for the HTTP server.

Can someone please help or at least tell me where to look? I don't
really have an understanding of how the web components for Squirrelmain
and Qmail Admin interact with the HTTP server, so I really need some
step by step troubleshooting help.

Thanks,

at that time I think the server itself is not equipped with anti spam

I have use qmt's vpopmail database for jabber and Intranet (Joomla)
authentication

so users only need 1 username/password to access the application.
but in order to do this I need to copy all records to other database and
make small change on table schema
since all I need from vpopmail table are pw_name, pw_gecos and
pw_(clear_)password

next I'll try to make samba server to authenticate using vpopmail database
