RE: [qmailtoaster] LDAP

2010-02-03 Thread Anil Aliyan
Dear Madmac,

If you haven't selected the ldapserver during os installation its not there
but you can install later on also.

yum -y install openldap-server

this command will install openldap-server and other necessary packages for
you. Internet connectivity is a must if you are installing using yum or else
u can install openldap-server rpm from the dvd/cd of your distro also.

Regards,

Anil Aliyan

You do not need to add it to the run file - giving us the output is fine.
And from your previous post where you listed the headers, the message
was run through simscan:

Received: by simscan 1.4.0 ppid: 25992, pid: 25993, t: 0.4020s
 scanners: attach: 1.4.0 clamav: 0.95.3/m:51/d:10249

Try changing report_safe to 0 instead of 1. That should get the headers
you are looking for.

I hate to contradict Phil, but I think you want VMware Player 3. The
latest version allows you to create VMs (where the previous versions
only let you play them). You can use VMware Server ok, but you'd be
restricted to a console window. The gui-ness of Player is much nicer. Be
sure to install VMware-Tools on your VM guest machine (applies to Player
and Server).

You will need to use the converter to migrate your existing system to a
VM. It worked nicely with XP for me.

If you don't need to use USB, you might want to look at VirtualBox (they
don't have USB working quite yet, but should fairly soon). I hear that's
a nice desktop product. I'm not sure about converting existing systems
to VB though. You'll need to look into that.

Good luck on your virtualization adventure. It's the right way to go IMO.

Xen Server5.5 from Citrix is also available and free ( at least for 12
months )
If you install vmware server , on a linux box , you can also go "
headerless " ie NO GUI.

There are also tons of ready made VM`s for almost any application.

ESXi is a "bare iron" product. You format your system and install it. You
want Vmware Server. That's free and will run like an application on your XP
machine.

You got me rightly, Eric, but I'm actually talking about my Windows XP
PC at home. I want to VMWare it somehow so that I can 'easily' run
multiple instances of Linux and M$ Server for self-study and
certiifcation purposes. The goal is to make myself harder to "lay
off". It looks like VMWorkstation is $189 and ESXi is free. I need the
ESXi approach, I think. But I can't go that way if it will break my
existing XP PC. I really like it the way it is.

Sorry everybody ... but I felt quite lost and just needed a little boost.

Various openldap related packages are included on the iso installer,
but they are not used by QMT. LDAP is not available with QMT.

That being said, LDAP support is presently being redone in vpopmail

integrate it with QMT. This will effectively make possible the
replacement of MySQL with LDAP as the backend storage for authentication.

Would you like to help with that?

Re: [qmailtoaster] Email forwarding + SPF records.

2010-02-03 Thread Maxwell Smart
You have to enter an SPF include on the leanservers.com that it's OK to
accept mail from bluehost.

/Here's what you can do:/ Contact the leanservers.com postmaster
and tell them that they need to
change leanservers.com's SPF record so that it *authorizes*
outbound-mail-70.bluehost.com. For example, they could change the record
to something like

v=spf1 a mx a:outbound-mail-70.bluehost.com -all

in order for this scenario to work, either of the following must be true for
the FORWARDER:
- it implements SRS to rewrite headers
- its IP address is listed in the SPF record of the SENDER as being allowed to
send in SENDER's name.

If none of the above is true, then the difference between Gmail and the other
recipient might be how strict they regard SPF failure / problems.
It might only be 'warn' for Gmail while it is 'fail' for others.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Email forwarding + SPF records.

2010-02-03 Thread Unai Rodriguez

Dear CJ,

Thank you so much for your response.

I am not sure if I made clear that the server throwing the error is the
"forwarder" which is not under my control (that is the one hosted on an
ISP -- bluehost.com).

I only control the 3rd "entity" (recipient):

[SENDER] -> [FORWARDER] -> [RECIPIENT]
(anyone) -> (bluehost)  -> (u-journal.org or gmail.com)

What I do not understand is why if the RECIPIENT is GMAIL everything is
fine while if it is U-JOURNAL.ORG FORWARDER complains about the SPF
record on SENDER?

Thank you so much again.

[qmailtoaster] Email forwarding + SPF records.

2010-02-03 Thread Unai Rodriguez
Dear All,

Facts:

- I am running qmailtoaster under OpenSuse 11.0 (last pakages for suse not
the very latest available for centos)
- I have 2 domains: u-journal.org, spanisharmada.sg
- u-journal.org is hosted on my qmailtoaster server
- spanisharmada.sg is hosted on an ISP (bluehost.com)
- confirmati...@spanisharmada.sg is a (email) forward to m...@u-journal.org
(and some others)

Now when some email addresses send emails to
confirmati...@spanisharmada.sg they get an error (i.e. SPF violation):

==
Hi. This is the qmail-send program at outbound-mail-70.bluehost.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following
addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

:
173.45.79.108 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 See
http://spf.pobox.com/why.html?sender=unai%40leanservers.com&ip=69.89.21.30&receiver=mail
(#5.7.1)
Giving up on 173.45.79.108.
==

I am also handling the domain leanservers.com and could certainly allow
bluehost.com to send emails (include:bluehost.com) but... what if other
people send emails and their SPF just do not allow bluehost.com?

What really puzzles me is that if I change the redirection of
confirmati...@spanisharmada.sg to x...@gmail.com the SPF error does not
occur.

How come it works for gmail? I do not understand since the one who is
suppose to be violating the SPF is the forwarding which is the same for
u-journal.org and gmail.com. I noticed gmail has this SPF: "v=spf1
redirect=_spf.google.com".

Any thoughts/pointers? Is this a pure SPF issue, gmail or qmailtoaster?

Thank you so much!

With Best Wishes,
Unai Rodriguez

Treat them like you would two totally different machines.  If you
setup the host to use bridge mode for the guests, then they don't even
need to be on the same subnet.

Re: [qmailtoaster] OT: VMWare question

2010-02-03 Thread Phil Leinhauser

The quick answer is to use a tool like Symantec Ghost to grab an image of
the guest then lay that down on the physical machine.  The opposite
can also be done.

Re: [qmailtoaster] OT: VMWare question

2010-02-03 Thread seekuel
Dear group,

I'm just curios on how to do the firewall on the host virtual server and the
guest servers.

What might be the principle behind virtualization and firewalls?

Sorry if this is also off-topic, I'm just curios with the introduction of
virtualization technology.

Sandeil

Dear Amit,

With all my due respect... Aren't these questions off
topic? I think you would probably get better support at a VMware mailing

I know that many of you are experienced with VMWare.
 I want to
get involved, but I want to keep my present hard drive image -- I like it
the way it is.
What you need is VMWare vCenter Converter (it's free) it
can convert your physical OS (Windows/Linux*) into VMWare Images
 for
detailed info please read thoroughly
http://www.vmware.com/products/converter/overview.html [2]

 I'd be happy
to make a backup (or drive image) and wipe my drives and install VMWare and
then 'restore' my existing image on top of VMWare, but I don't know if I
can do that.
After you make vmware images of your physical OS then you
can install VMware server / player then restore your image

 Is this
do-able?
 Thanks,
I have done this, making image of Windows 2003 server
(Physical) then load the image on vmware server 2
 easy,
