[qmailtoaster] Concerns for Updates, Viability, Future of Qmailtoaster

2015-01-15 Thread Edwin Casimero

Hi Guys,

I am concerned for the future of Qmailtoaster, updates, viability.

Free is good at the start, but when your software is run by
corporations, these corporations need constant updates and tech support.

What I mean is that it is 2015, and the default install is still just
for CentOS 5.x

But CentOS 5.x is usually no longer in the list of VPS-Xen installs.

CentOS 6.x installs I see here discussed and on the Wiki does not seem
stable.

QTP-Menu does not really seem to work fully to update everything.

And updates are few and far between.

How about you guys start charging for an annual fee or something?

Just to assure that qmailtoaster gets updated all the time: dovecot,
spamassassin, clamav... the rest of the stuff.

Then you should have flawless installs on CentOS 6 and CentOs 7.

Just my 2 cents.

[qmailtoaster] Dovecot and Squirrelmail IMAP Quota Usage Display - SOLVED

2014-10-06 Thread Edwin Casimero

Hi Guys,

For those who have not been able to display Quotas / Disk Usage on
Squirrelmail or Roundcube or Thunderbird Quota Plugin... I would like to
share the easy solution I just found about how to display quota usage in:

- Qmail Toaster
- CentOs 5.x
- Courier Replaced by Dovecot 2.0.17

The solution I copied from looking at the development Qmail Toaster for
CentOS 6.

This is what I did for 2 installations of QMT on CentOS 5.x with Dovecot
2.0.17:

In /etc/dovecot/toaster.conf

Add these lines:

 start -

# added to make quotas work!

mail_plugins = $mail_plugins quota

protocol imap {
  imap_client_workarounds = delay-newmail
  mail_plugins = $mail_plugins imap_quota
}

plugin {
  quota = maildir:ignore=Trash
  quota_rule = ?:storage=0
}

-- end ---

Restart dovecot with:

service dovecot restart

And that is it, the quotas via imap will now display in your
Squirrelmail (with the check quota plugin) and Roundcube.

For Thunderbird you can install a quota plugin.

Hope this helps someone.

Best wishes,
Edwin

Thank you for your participation. I'm contemplating adding Roundcube
to the 'stock' QMT. It's been long overdue.

I like the the roundcube interface much better than squirrelmail's and
am glad to see it finely out of beta. It was there for so long I just
stopped checking on it. Anyway, IMHO, I think if compatibility is not in
question it is a good direction.

Subject: [qmailtoaster] QMT on COS6 Officially Released!

The packages for QMT have been promoted to the /current/ branch in
the repo.

If you installed packages from the /testing/ branch, you do not need to
update from the /current/ branch. You may want to disable the /testing/
repo in the appropriate /etc/yum.repos.d/*.repo files if you enabled
them.

Then again, you might want to keep them enabled. There are already a few
updates in /testing/ related to the upcoming changes for logging, which
are going to be significant. We will be implementing an ELK
(ElasticSearch, Logstash, Kibana) stack for log analysis. This will
bring all of the logs under one umbrella and provide some very neat
analysis capabilities.

If you have any problems with anything, as always, bring them up here.
Making changes to packages is now highly automated, and I expect that
we'll be seeing much more frequent releases of packages as things are
changed and fixed.

Documentation is still a bit behind. If anyone would like to get some
experience with github's wiki, let me know and we can apply some
teamwork on getting that going. What we do with that presently has wide
open possibilities.

Thanks to all the testers and trail blazers who helped make this release
possible. You know who you are, and your help is greatly appreciated.

eGroupware is probably overkill for our needs and even Horde may be a

[qmailtoaster] How / When Will Email Quotas go beyond 2048 mb ?

2011-12-04 Thread Eli Edwin Casimero
Hello guys,

It is almost 2012 and my qmailtoaster installs on Centos 5 32-bit are
limited to 2048 mb in their individual email quotas.

Gmail issues almost 8 GB quotas. I'd like to set new quotas in GBs such as
10 GB or 25 GB.

How do we go about this?

Is there something that needs to be fixed in Qmailtoaster?

Should I use a 64bit OS?

Is this something that will be standard in Qmailtoaster Version 2.0

Is this something we can fund Jake to implement?

Best wishes,
Edwin

Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: Corrupt JPG, DOC and XLS files after Converting to DOVECOT

2011-08-14 Thread Eli Edwin Casimero
I have problems with

$imap_auth_mech = 'cram-md5';

so I replaced it with login, which works... cram-md5 was giving me password
problems... some passwords accepted, some not.

What I did was to completely replace squirrelmail with a NEW install of
squirrelmail, the latest 1.4.22 version.

And I installed it under /webmail2

It works, and my customer gets to work again, I get to work again.

Maybe the stock squirrelmail in qmailtoaster packages needs to be updated to
accommodate dovecot.

Hope my little bit helped.

Thanks and kudos to the qmailtoaster team!

So i guess some botnet is trying to relay mail guessing a specific

How can I remove spamhaus.org as RBL?

At first it was indicated in /var/qmail/control/blacklists

Giving up on 64.120.146.173.

I removed spamhause from /var/qmail/control/blacklists

Then restarted qmailtoaster.

I try emailing again and this time I get:

Where else can I remove spamhaus as rbl ?

 Giving up on 64.120.146.173.

It's as if spamhaus.org is hard wired into toaster.

Where else can I remove spamhaus as rbl ?

It is not hardcoded in. It is defined in the /var/qmail/control/blacklists
file. If you're using Spamdyke, you may need to remove it from there as
 well.
If you remove it from the blacklists file, stop qmail (qmailctl stop) and
then check to ensure the SMTP processes complete and exit nicely (qmailctl
stat). Once everything is down, start the service again (qmailctl start).

Here's my first test virtual machine.

I installed the latest OpenVZ virtualization platform.

I used a Virtual Machine Centos 5.5 i386 template and gave it 1GB RAM
and 10gb space.

I installed qmailtoaster and I got the /etc/tcprules.d/tcp.smtp

[r...@centos5home tcprules.d]# cat tcp.smtp

127.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=,DKSIGN=/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/private
:allow,BADMIMETYPE=,BADLOADERTYPE=M,CHKUSER_RCPTLIMIT=50,CHKUSER_WRONGRCPTLIMIT=10,DKSIGN=/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/private

as you can see QMAILQUEUE is missing again.

I will do more virtual machine installs in the future.

Best wishes,
Edwin

The QMAILQUEUE variable is what invokes simscan, and simscan invokes

It appears that the FH_DATE_PAST_20XX rule is still firing for you, so
your fix appears to not have taken effect.

You didn't say specifically what you did, so I'll simply tell you what
 you need.

 Add the following to /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf:
 # temporary fix for this rule
 score   FH_DATE_PAST_20XX       0.0

 Then restart spamassassin:
 # qmail-spam restart
(qmail-spam command is part of QTP, in case you don't have that yet)

 That should do it.

No X-Spam flags in the headers.

I installed the missing Bignum module in perl in one installation

 ---
solution: run cpan and install Crypt::OpenSSL::Bignum module.

 cpan
 install Crypt::OpenSSL::Bignum

 -

I also tried the RPMForge method in another installation.

in /var/log/qmail/spamd/current it does not complain anymore about
 missing bignum

But there is still no change in the headers, no x-spam headers like in
 the old 32 bit installs.

Am I missing something in the configuration?

 Any thoughts?

 Thanks in advance.

 Edwin

2010-05-28 Thread Eli Edwin Casimero
Do you have any idea how you ended up with no QMAILQUEUE variable? This is
not the first time that has happened to someone recently.

My current theory is that all these installations have in common is
that they are CentOS 5.4 x86_64 XEN installations hosted in CentOS 5.4
x86_64 XEN. Maybe XEN is at fault? This is 3 installations all with
the same problem in the same host.

I will try your advice and see if it fixes the problem. Be right back
later with the results.

I have a test machine at home and will make various installations and
see if this can be replicated in other Virtual Machine installations.

The 2nd line should look like this:

The QMAILQUEUE variable is what invokes simscan, and simscan invokes
spamassassin and clamav. You'll also need the NOP0FKEY=1 variable.

Do you have any idea how you ended up with no QMAILQUEUE variable? This is

OpenVZ should be fine, so long as you meet the OpenVZ HW requirements.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Not receiving specific auto response email

2009-07-24 Thread Edwin Casimero

Hi,

Results are in. sender_nocheck=1 at tcp.smtp did it!
It was the / in the email address of the auto responder that was
causing it to be rejected.

Thank you all!

Best wishes,
Edwin

 Hi,

I googled with this clue and found in the FAQ something about
blackberries using / for their email address.

So I edited my tcp.smtp and added sender_nocheck=1

 Then did qmailctl cdb

Restarted the machine to be sure.

Then sent a test message to the automated machine... now waiting for a

Re: [qmailtoaster] MySQL tuning

2009-06-22 Thread Edwin Casimero

Thanks for the performance tweak reminder.

I think MySQL tuning on qmailtoaster only works when you have lots and
lots and lots of users / email addresses.

I got a big performance boost by using SUSE Linux and IBM JFS instead of
EXT3.

I use toaster in my office server to store all our email for all past
years. IBM JFS is more suited to handle thousands of files in 1 folder.

Best wishes,
Edwin

Phil Leinhauser wrote:
Last week Jake mentioned about tuning my MySQL might help my QMT from

I did a bit of digging and thought I would share what I found. Here
is a guy that wrote a nice script for testing the current performance
and makes recommenations for improvement.

http://www.day32.com/MySQL http://www.day32.com/MySQL/tuning-primer.sh

In order for the script to have a good snapshot of what is happening,
your MySQL should be running for at least 48 hours.

When I ran it, it recommended the following:
long_query_time = 5   WAS 10
query-cache-type = 1 WAS NOT RUNNING
query-cache-size = 20M JUST A STARTING POINT
table_cache = 100 WAS RUNNING 64 AND FULL. There are 78 tables in
my database so I just picked 100.

I restarted the MySQLd and so far it seems to have helped. It takes a
few days for my systems to start slowing so time will tell.

Hopefully this will help others tweak their servers and maybe even
keep the Earth from crashing into the sun...

Can QmailToaster handle 10,000 email addresses?
I am also thinking of the hardware specifications.
If at 500 MB per email address, easily I will need 5,000 GB of hard
drive space.
What kind of server will I need?
The traffic generated? Will 1 qmailtoaster on 1 super server do?
Will 64bit be needed?
Anyone who is managing such a monster right now share his story?

I've set up machines for ISPs that meet your requirements. First
thing you need to do is sit down for a day (at least) and plan this
all out. Think of your needs (and the needs of your users) 12 months
down the road, as well as 24 months and beyond. Will the user base
expand? By how much? You don't want to have to completely rebuild the
whole thing (and all the pains of moving email accounts, messages,
etc. associated with this) because of short sightedness.

You'll need strong hardware. I do not set up any 64 bit machines
since I do not see any benefits from this setup and only problems with
packages, compiling, compatibility, etc., that do not outweigh any
performance boost you'd get from 64 bit.
You will definitely need to setup mysql for a high load. The stock
mysql is not set up for this in any way, shape, or form. You also
need to look at setting up apache for high loads if you plan on users
using webmail as well. I would not run too many/any web pages off of
a mail server set up for this type of environment. If you're talking a
load like that, then you have the funds to put your websites on a
separate server.
If the users will be using IMAP, then you need to REALLY look at your
infrastructure. Courier is not set up for anything other than a small
office/home office by default and will really need tweaking.
In the past when I set up systems like this I normally went with
clustering. Share a common backend and the have multiple front end
machines accepting mail/delivering mail and all serving webmail. Each
machine you put in the cluster will decrease the load point by a
compounding factor. 2 machines decreases the load on each machine by
1/2, 3 by 1/3, etc. This also makes drive space easier in the event
you want to increase space at a later date. 2 machines running NFS
and replicated on a constant basis would allow you to either add
drives (depending on your setup) on the fly whenever needed.

Anyway, long and short of it, make sure you have it all planned out.
I've set up ISP style arrays with multiple machines that served (at
the time, no idea what they're running now) hundreds of thousands of
users. Qmail can handle it, as can any MTA. It all depends on how
well it was planned out and built for.

A SAN is a good start. You get the added bonus of not having to
maintain it yourself.
10G is small for what you've already asked for. You had asked for
500M-1G mailboxes, so that would yield 10-20 mailboxes.
While emails are located in /home/vpopmail and would need to be
shared, there are a few other considerations/files/services that need
to be shared, such as control files, the database containing the users
itself, spamassassin data, etc.

[qmailtoaster] Can QMailToaster Handle 10,000 email addresses?

2008-12-02 Thread Edwin Casimero

Hi,

I have an inquiry to handle 10,000 email addresses.
I'm thinking 500 MB to 1,000 mb per email address.

Best wishes,
Edwin

Re: [qmailtoaster] Can QMailToaster Handle 10,000 email addresses?

2008-12-02 Thread Edwin Casimero

Thank you for all the advices. This is the offer of the data center:

10TB SAN (storage area network)
8 core cpu with up to 32gb of memory, gigabit connected to the internet.

Will a single install of CentOS 5.x 32-bit be enough to handle 10,000
email addresses?

Or do I need 64-bit CentOS to be able to handle 32GB of memory?

Or do I still need a clustered qmailtoaster for the front end? Which I
do not know how to do. Is there a link how to do a clustered qmailtoaster?

TTBOMK (which isn't exhaustive by any means), the stock toaster is fairly
(adequately in most instances) secure. It includes a nice iptables firewall
configuration. Since a dedicated QmailToaster box has no real users, many
traditional security concerns are avoided.

If you come up with any changes to the stock toaster which would make it
more secure, please be sure to share them here. They would likely be
integrated in the stock toaster.

[qmailtoaster] Per Domain Backup, Restore and Migrate script?

Hello,

Thanks for the backup and restore script that does the WHOLE server
found at http://v2gnu.com/qmail/ . Great stuff, I would need a ton of
hard disk space.

My new question is:

Do you have a script to backup and restore PER DOMAIN?

Say I have 5 domains hosted in my current server, I'd like to backup
restore or migrate per domain 1 at a time to a different qmailtoaster
server.

In this method, I can migrate 1 domain at a time to 1 server or to
different qmailtoaster servers.

Any ready script for this one or a clue how this can be done?

Thanks in advance.

Re: [qmailtoaster] www.dnsreport.com: WARN - Mail server host name in greeting

For the benefit of others:
here is the final solution.

I removed the default /var/control/smtpgreeting and replaced it with my
default smtp server hostname.
In my case mail.filipinowebservices.com is now the sole content of
/var/qmail/control/smtpgreeting

This now passes the www.dnsreport.com test whether for my own
filipinowebservices.com or for my customer asianf3.net

http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=asianf3.net

Mail server host name in greeting
OK: All of your mailservers have their host name in the greeting:

mail.asianf3.net:
 220 mail.filipinowebservices.com ESMTP

Thanks Erik!

Edwin

Help!

I have qmailtoaster on CentOS 4.2 and it has been running fine for several months now.
I host several dozen domains and emails running,
All of a sudden today, I cannot send email outside my own server.

I looked at the RBLs and spamcop has me blacklisted.

I then removed all RBLs in my /var/qmail/control/blacklists.
I did the same for a backup server that also has qmailtoaster.

Now I tested my backup server and it sends and receives emails fine.

But my main email server with qmailtoaster can only receive emails but cannot receive emails!

My main email server cannot send to yahoo, cannot send to google,
cannot send to my backup server which has RBLs removed in
/var/qmail/control/blacklists.

What could possibly be wrong with my qmailtoaster? How can I fix it? Which logs to check?

   Help!

I have qmailtoaster on CentOS 4.2 and it has been running fine
 for several months now.
I host several dozen domains and emails running,
All of a sudden today, I cannot send email outside my own
 server.

I looked at the RBLs and spamcop has me blacklisted.

I then removed all RBLs in my /var/qmail/control/blacklists.
I did the same for a backup server that also has qmailtoaster.

Now I tested my backup server and it sends and receives emails
 fine.

But my main email server with qmailtoaster can only receive
 emails but cannot receive emails!

My main email server cannot send to yahoo, cannot send to
google, cannot send to my backup server which has RBLs removed
 in /var/qmail/control/blacklists.

What could possibly be wrong with my qmailtoaster? How can I
fix it? Which logs to check?

[qmailtoaster] Help! How do I stop / identify my users from sending spam?

Hello,

I've just currently been blacklisted in Spamcop.
I've been looking at the apache logs and I see qmail rejecting some
spammer injecting a lot of aol.com addresses

I do not know if that is the cause.

How do I identify which of my users are sending spam?

Is there a way I can stop them at the server level?

My users are granted smtp access.

Help?

Hi Qmail Profis ;-)

i am currently in a big dilemma. That means i have a server with
qmailtoaster running absolutely wonderful.

For some domains this server is Primary.
Now i would like to add some domains for which this server is the
secondary one. (the primary one is running postfix)

That's easy, too. For the Qmail server to be a backup mail exchange
for a domain, you DO NOT add the domains or users to the server. All
you have to do is add the domains to your rcpthosts file in
/var/qmail/control and it will accept emails for those domains that
you add, and then try and deliver the to the main MX record every 5
minutes. This goes hand-in-hand with the
/var/qmail/control/queuelifetime file. The value in this file is the
number of seconds the Qmail server will hang onto the message (trying
to deliver it every 5 minutes the whole time) until it bounces it to
the sender. A good value is 24 hours (86400 seconds) in my opinion. I
keep mine set at that, unless there's a problem with the main mail
server, in which case I log into it and change this variable to a
longer time (usually 3 days) until I get the main server back up.

How about setting a quota per domain we keep a backup mail exchange?
Say 50mb per domain?

Just use the flags for Redhat9 (rht90) to build them for RHEL3. Other
than that, you **MAY** need to satisfy the dependencies for Redhat9,
but Nick has a script on his site for that. Everything else should be
good. My new script should work for that, if you use the CentOS 3.4
install (uses the rht90 flags, and satisfies the dependencies for it
also) which is on my site at http://jakev.com/qmail

[qmailtoaster] Let's talk about SPF Records - How are you implementing them?

2005-11-01 Thread Edwin Casimero

Guys,

If you checkout your domains in www.dnsreport.com, you can get some
important analysis.

One of them is the SPF Record:

Your domain does not have an SPF record. This means that spammers can
easily send out E-mail that looks like it came from your domain, which
can make your domain look bad (if the recipient thinks you really sent
it), and can cost you money (when people complain to you, rather than
the spammer). You may want to add an SPF record http://spf.pobox.com
ASAP, as 01 Oct 2004 was the target date for domains to have SPF records
in place (Hotmail, for example, started checking SPF records on 01 Oct
2004).

http://spf.pobox.com/ - for information on SPF records.

What is your SPF record implementation policy?

Are your customers or domains demanding to use them?

Regards to all,

Edwin

[qmailtoaster] Mail server host name in greeting

2005-11-01 Thread Edwin Casimero

Guys,

If you check your domain in www.dnsreport.com, you can find some useful
information.

One that is interesting for a newbie QmailToaster user like me is the:

*** Mail server host name in greeting ***

WARNING: One or more of your mailservers is claiming to be a host other
than what it really is (the SMTP greeting should be a 3-digit code,
followed by a space or a dash, then the host name). This probably won't
cause any harm, but is a technical violation of RFC821 4.3 (and RFC2821
4.3.1). Note that the hostname given in the SMTP greeting should have
an A record pointing back to the same server.

mail.prolife.org.ph claims to be
invalid hostname 'Welcome':

220 Welcome to Qmail Toaster Ver. 1.2 smtp Server ESMTP

Question: How do I implement this on my domains under Qmail Toaster?

Other commercial email servers call this remote pop or RPOP.
Or in SquirrelMail, there is a plugin for POP Fetch.

What I need is an unattended tool that remotely fetches email from the
internet and dumps this email into qmail.

With Fetchmail and Sendmail or Postfix, I can run this in Cron.

[qmailtoaster] Need help technique t migrate from Ensim 4 (sendmail) to Qmail Toaster

I have around 50 domains to transfer from Ensim 4 (sendmail)

Questions:

#1 - Does Qmail have a Remote POP facility aka fetchmail?
#2 - Is there a utility to convert my sendmail mailboxes to qmaildirs?
#3 - Any practical tips?

I tried using Mozilla-Thunderbird's imap client and transferred email

Re: [qmailtoaster] Help me choose qmailtoaster over surgemail

2005-10-23 Thread Edwin Casimero

Hi Nick,

My first install was a bust... must have made a boo boo somewhere.
I tried QmailRocks... whew, too much hard work, but I learned a lot.
There has to be a better and more consistent way... QmailToaster.
Again, tried installing CentOS 4.0 CDs, but the yum update takes too
long on my slow DSL.
And it seems the Qmail Toaster install updates CentOS to the latest 4.x
version anyway!

Grrr... Install CentOS 4.2 DVD.
Try installing QmailToaster again... success!!!

Woo hooo. Let me try this on my brand new rented Xeon server.

My next move is to try to install a custom apache 2.0.xx and include the
.confs generated by qmail and squirrelmail, install my preferred
firewall (APF) and see that my Apache plays both squirrelmail and my EZ
Publish web sites who are heavy on mod_rewrite...

The trick I see from commercial packages like CommuniGate Pro and
Surgemail is to run their webmail on a different port like :8100 or :7026

There will be more challenges... backup, backup, backup --- restore,
restore, restore.

Wish me luck... This week has been awesome.

I hope to finally use qmailtoaster as my replacement for clunky old ensim 4.

Hopefully, qmailtoaster will be more stable. I know it is.

Thanks to all you guys.

Regards,
Edwin

What problems are you having with CentOS 4.2? I just did a fresh ftp

Most cases of failed installs have host, SELinux, and dns issues.
