Re: [qmailtoaster] Squirrel mail login

2009-07-25 Thread PakOgah
I have asked the same question, once, long time ago, and Eric Shubert
answer the same answer.

so, I just pass the answer to you :D
quote:
it only 1 domain in 1 line that's why the file called
"/home/vpopmail/etc/defaultdomain" and not
"/home/vpopmail/etc/defaultdomains"

by specifying this, users of that domain, when login to Squirrelmail and
email client only need to provide their username only (without
domainname.tld)
now if you have multiple domains, other domains' users need to use the
format usern...@domain.tld when receiving email using MUA
but they can use their username only on squirrelmail if you install and
configure vlogin plugins for squirrelmail

and yes, by using username only, it may get easily attacks by POP3
dictionary bots, but all of my users already used to using only username
as login username, and usern...@domain.tld is their email address not
login username

Try modifying /home/vpopmail/etc/defaultdomain. I found it in the

/home/vpopmail/etc/defaultdomain

default vpopmail's domain type domain name that will be the default
for

qmtiso
if the domain name is listed here, no domain is needed for user
authentication
i.e. w/o /home/vpopmail/etc/defaultdomain users need to

IMO standard configuration without default domain is more secure. Most
of the dictionary pop3 attacks specify only the user login name, not
u...@domain. The bots are stupid. ;-)

Another way maybe to set the domain in Squirrelmail.

On my server I can execute /usr/share/squirrelmail/config/conf.pl and
then select option 2 and then option 1 to set the domain. I think
whatever this is set to will be the domain that is appended to the
username on login by default. I can't remember for sure though. Make
sure to select S for Save and then Q to quit when finished. See below:

r...@server$/usr/share/squirrelmail/config/conf.pl

SquirrelMail Configuration : Read: config.php (1.4.0)
-
Main Menu --
1. Organization Preferences
2. Server Settings
3. Folder Defaults
4. General Options
5. Themes
6. Address Books
7. Message of the Day (MOTD)
8. Plugins
9. Database
10. Languages

D. Set pre-defined settings for specific IMAP servers

C Turn color on
S Save data
Q Quit

Command >> 2
SquirrelMail Configuration : Read: config.php (1.4.0)
-
Server Settings

General
---
1. Domain : example.com
2. Invert Time: false
3. Sendmail or SMTP : SMTP

A. Update IMAP Settings : 127.0.0.1:143 (courier)
B. Update SMTP Settings : localhost:25

R Return to Main Menu
C Turn color on
S Save data
Q Quit

Command >> 1

The domain name is the suffix at the end of all email addresses. If
for example, your email address is j...@example.com, then your domain
would be example.com.

Using a default domain was discussed in the archives. I do not remember

it myself.
Search back in the archives (it was a couple years ago) and you should
come up with something. I think it's a setting in squirrelmail.
