All I can do is pray and cry for a very young man I don't even know. His injury has impacted all of us and he doesn't even know. How do my son, his friends and mehim help? We want him to know there is hope and that we all care. I happen to be at the rehab every Tuesday and Thursday but I am afraid to go meet him because I don't know if he will appreciate a friend's mom looking in on him. How do we help his emotional state? Isn't fair to say that even a SCI injury doesn't stop life and love? He feels as if he will never have a girl fall in love with him and that he will go through life alone. It is my understanding that he doesn't have the use of his hands yet. Does this meanhe will never regain the use of his hands? Please anyone with any advice please write. Thanks Hi there, I'm Smurf and I'm 20 from the UK. I became a para about a month after my 18th birthday after a combination of a fall and car accident. The best advice I can give you for your sons friend is to be there for him. Your sons friend is going to need a lot of support right now, and as many true friends he can get hold of. If he gets moody or anything don't argue back at him, let himoffload his anger, and give him theemotional support. For the future heneeds to be alloud to make his own mistakes, but for now a good friend whol will stand by him through thick and thin is what's going to help him Hope that helps, Love Smurf xxx
Re: [QUAD-L] BODY CHANGING 6 YRS POST
Sounds very familiar! Yeah, about every 10 years or everytime a 0 is at the end of and age, things seem to head south and it takes longer to bounce back from things--like being in bed for a pressure sore, a surgery or just a stomach ache. I definitely cannot just hop in the chair and go full steam anymore. Tried that and could hardly move the next day! What used to work does not, what used to not work does now and gave up guessing why a long time ago! take care, Dana and ? [QUAD-L] UTI
My son, Gabe has a C4-5 injury. He is nine years post. Heis straight cathed about every four hours. He had a lot of bladder problems, spasms, infections and pain. The doc was great however, she never mentionedseveral things to us because she didn't think it was necessary or that we didn't have access to the care.So we had to research and dig andI hope these things can be helpful to you. 1. If your generic ditropan-or what ever you take isn't working well, it might be that you need name brand. Helped Gabe. 2.If your bladder spasm meds aren't working maybe you have built up a tolerance and need to switch for a couple months then go back to the med. Gabe builds up a tolerance every 2-3 years. 3. If your oral antibiotic isn't working you can "instill" the antibiotic directly into the bladder. It's easy. We have done it several times. The doc said she didn't mention it because she didn't think we had a nurse that could do it. First time around a nurse helped after that the doc just worked with us. A pharmacy can mix up the antibiotic into sterile water or if you don't have a pharmacy that will do that the doc can just write up anRX for a vial of an antibiotic and you can mix it at home with sterile water. To do it you just need to have an empty bladder, a 30 mm syringe with out needle. a cath in the bladder, sterile gloves- draw out the prescribed amount of fluid and instill the antibiotic into the bladder through the cath. We have a protocol so we can keep every thing sterile. Gabe had a bacteria that I guess only infects the lungs. He was on antibiotic for three months. We did the instillation and it kicked the bugs a I hope these ideas help. Lana, mom

I guess it is because it takes me longer to do everything. Apart from that, my sleep schedule is way off. I tend to feel anxiety at night more than during the day soit is difficult for me to sleep, unless I am dead tired. Iwonder if anyone else feels that wayand what they do about it. Well, I guess that is all for now. Thanks for your message! Amelia Hi Amelia, Your email about being worried about started full time school sounds all too familiar. I was feeling the same a couple of years ago when I started back at college after my accident. This is when you need a good school that'll support you health wise, and if they do then you shouldn't have any problem. When I started my course I told them that I hardly slept during the night so daytime I was drowsy, and explained to them my worries and they were fantastic. I guess as long as you are straight up and open with them right from day one you will have no worries! Keep us posted! love Smurf xxx

I've been on oxybut--otherwise known as Ditropan, since I was in rehab. I take a small amount-- 1 5mg, once a day. Used to take it twice a day, but was able to get down to one a day. I have no idea if it even helps anymore. Its a bladder relaxer. take care, Dana and ? [EMAIL PROTECTED] - Original Message - From: B. You may want to talk to your urologists about this. Additionally, you may want to, if you already haven't, check into getting a sonogram. The only other time I have had bladder pain which lasted for a long time I had bladder stones. Good luck with your problem and if this urologists doesn't give you any better answers than you will have to learn to live with it, then I would agree you definitely need a second opinion.
