 Hey Smurf,
Have you heard the latest. We have several clients selling their vans on
the
internet and on some occasions they received a reply for someone in the UK
that explains that they want to purchase the car for the exact asking
price.
The need a bank, bank account info where to send the money and then have
their
 agent pick up the vehicle.

One such operator in the UK is a woman named Monica. She says that her
email
 address is:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]and she lives at a restaurant in London

Have you heard about this scam?

I knew that it would be a good movie, I loved all Clint Eastwoods movies since I was a kid. Morgan Freeman also has never chosen a script that was anything but good. Both Freeman Eastwood are up in age have friends and relatives now that use chairs. Eastwoods restaraunts issues are different than maybe his true feelings. Separate business and true feelings, $ makes people do strange things.

[QUAD-L] UK Vehicle Scam- Don'tcha Know

2005-02-18 Thread wheelchair
From what I've been told by InTerPol, this scam is not that new. Someone in
Europe, will respond to an advertisement and request personal information such
as banking information, so that a wired money tranfers can take place,
sometimes using Western Union as an agent. They will also use a person as
their
Agent in the USA to retrieve the vehicle. The problem occurs when the
paperwork and deposits don't clear. This may take up to 2 weeks after the
draft is
entered and the bank processes the transaction. Has anyone else been exposed
to something like this before.
The point is: wired transfers aren't as safe as they once were and the
scammers know this.

I have the sure hands overhead lift, but do not use the harness. I have had
both of my hip joints removed due to both of them fusing, and I made my own
harness. If anyone has seen a helicopter rescue on television, the harness
that
they use is simply a padded strap that one that would slide over their head.
That is how I made my harness. I took one inch strap, put a piece of the
black foam pipe insulation, covered that with a padded insert and put a cover
on
it. It does put all the weight on the shoulders and armpits, but I have been
using it for 11 years and have had no problems, and my weight is around 225
pounds. Works for me! I don't need to get in an out of a harness, so it's
quicker, and I believe less chance of sitting wrong.

Hi Corie,

I have said before that going to see a movie, is just that, seeing a movie. I know enough about Mel Gibson to know what to expect from "The Passion.'' I know enough about Michael Mooreto know what to expect from ''Fahrenheit 9/11.'' I know enough about Clint Eastwood to know what to expect from''Million Dollar Baby.'' Would I advise anyone to convert, change their political party, or their opinion aboutassisted suicide from going to see any of these movies? Of course not. Do I think these movies reflect the views of their makers. Of course. Butif the USA is fighting so people in Iraq can be free, I respect the right for an American to be free to make movies.

It was her choice to ask for his assistance, being a high quad on a ventilator, and without any family support, she turned to him. My only complaint about the movie was that they could have portrayed the rehab hospital more realistically. I don't think nowadays they allow a high quad to get bedsores to that extent. They never showed her on her side or being turned. I realize Eastwood wanted to portray her life as miserable as possible to make the coach's decision to help her easier. I think it was Eastwood's intent to show that it was an act of love to respect her wishes and help her end her life.Just my opinion of the movie,Corie

[QUAD-L] John Hockenberry's invitation

2005-02-18 Thread River Wolfe
On Million Dollar Baby by John Hockenberry

One can barely imagine how relieved the movie critics now climbing over themselves to defend Clint Eastwood were to see the right-wing media going after Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby. Suddenly they were free to set the dispute into a broad culture war context as Frank Rich did last week. They were free finally to ignore the true outrage of the movie. These same critics failed millions of Americans with disabilities by accepting as utterly plausible the plot-twist that a quadriplegic would sputter into medical agony in a matter of months and embrace suicide as her only option in a nation where millions of people with spinal cord injuries lead full long lives. No, these critics would much prefer to talk about offenses against poor victimized directors, comparing Eastwood to last year's besieged Michael Moore rather than to talk about their own failings or about a group which has never had any standing in the culture wars.

Plot twist is, in fact, an apt description of Million Dollar Baby's ending. A spinal cord injury followed by a dolorous slo-mo sipping of Eastwood's poetic hemlock avoids the inconvenient truth that a female athlete outside of basketball and perhaps professional mud-wrestling has virtually no opportunity to make a living in America. That might make a more plausible reason for suicide than the rationale Million Dollar Baby supplies.

Hollywood loves this disabled suicide plot and Eastwood is hardly the only director to be enthralled with might be called the crip ex machina theatrical convention.

How delusional is it for Hollywood to spend billions on teen flicks and big budget films where teens and youth culture star and yet there is practically never any mention that suicide is the number one public health concern for American teenagers, one of the leading causes of teen deaths? Somehow teen-suicide seems just nutty compared to depressed quadriplegics offing themselves. Maybe the plot twist Hollywood seems so desperate to defend isn't really assisted suicide. Maybe its Eastwood's own epic saga of slogging to the Oscar summit that gets these critics all misty eyed?

As a right-wing culture war target, rather than an anti-disabled bigot, Eastwood and the critics can certainly avoid mentioning the director's high-profile campaign against the American With Disabilities act after he was sued for owning an inaccessible restaurant. The thought of insulting or offending millions of people who live full lives despite a myriad of restrictions on their freedoms and a palpable sense of impatience that we're not dead yet at all enter the minds of these movie culture warriors. Had it occurred to them, they might have mentioned that Rush Limbaugh and his gang were among the biggest critics of the ADA, have endorsed restrictions on healthcare support for people in need of long-term rehabilitation and have eagerly used disabled rights to further their own agenda when convenient.

If Mr. Eastwood is so convinced that his film is grounded in reality then perhaps he might wish to accompany me to the U.S. Army's Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland where there are 1000 or so severely disabled soldiers from Iraq whose lives are changed forever, who were told they fought for Iraqi freedom and are now perhaps wondering, along with their families, who is going to fight for their freedom to live a full life here in America. As a paraplegic for three decades I can help them with that question. Would Mr. tough guy Eastwood and his new pals Frank Rich and Roger Ebert have the guts to defend Million Dollar Baby's plausible message of suicidal disabled people? Would they offer to helpfully pull the plug on these soldiers? How's that for a plot twist? Thank God there is another message of hope and strength inside Walter Reed and in pockets of sanity in this country. I pray that someday it's a plausible one in Hollywood and throughout America.

Hi,

Not seeing the movie, actually hoping that some brazen folks disrupt the Oscars with their protest. Hard to believe that Hillary Swank describes the character as making the best of a difficult situation hmmm...

I'd rather spend my time watching people like Dana Reeve who was just great on Oprah. I think the timing was wonderful that she came on to talk about Christopher's extraordinary life and his decision to live and not die. I was very moved by the show.
Another thing, Melissa Etheridge was so awesome at the Grammy's If anyone is interested, she'll be on Dateline on Sunday.

OK Guys,
Don't make me out the bad guy. I guess Life is suppose to be in Gods hands. As you know God spared me 3 times and my brother is waiting for a new heart. Both my brother and I believe its next our choose its Gods choose in when we will die. Even a little baby who only live for a day can teach us "Life is Precious"I have nothing more to say about Eastwood.

my test to see if i could use a condom cath was pretty simple. when
they removed my foley after my accident - about 3 months in, they handed me a
urinal and left me for a few hours. sure enuf, in a few hours, i felt the
urge and although i couldn't control it, i went on my own. the rehab
hospital tried a condom cath and it has worked for 37 years. pinch off
your supra-pube and see if you go normally - pretty simple.

For all the MALES...How did you know you could use
comdom caths?? My doc's had me having Caths done every 6 hours or so for the
1st 31/2 years after my injury..after a while I got blockage inside where
they had to do surgury 2 times to clear opening for me to continue being
Cathed, After that I was told due to this trouble I need to consider
supra-pubic -- which I ended up doing. My Question is, they never ever told
me I could use comdom Cath ? Now I always hear how with those you all have few
UTI'S . I wonder if Doc's just wanted to do this to make money..cause my
Urologist was pushing me for supra-pubic surgury ? Now with my infections He
say's well if I have to i'll RE-ROUTE your bladder to the side and give you a
side bag? I told my wife No-Way - Like Lori Stated they may kill me or
me or make things worse !

discrimination? i think so but it never seemed blatant. i also
think i got my job because they needed to fill a quota but i can't prove it and
i don't care. i've given them 25 solid years and have not abused any of my
potential perks allowed to people in my condition.
technology has saved my life. i'm a computer programmer and now a
power chair user. the newfound freedom is worth its weight in gold.

Dear

informative and inspirational. Loved the pics of you and your family. It
is wonderful to put a face with the story and also to see how happy you
are. I do have a couple of questions. Have you ever faced
discrimination along the way? and How has technology helped you?
Thanks again, you are truly a gentleman!Best RegardsJeffrey

[QUAD-L] I win I win I win

2005-02-18 Thread Stacy Harim

I was so exhausted all week and legs and feet consistently swollen all
week. Not having enough time to sleep that I couldn't focus and not enough
time in bed to get the swelling down because I have to take care of things after
I get home and not having enough time to do it got to me physically and
emotionally. I didn't have class to day so I said that's it, I'm going as high
as I can locally so I called the transit director for the 3 counties. Well
when I called it happened to be a time that he was getting ready to have a
meeting with the paratransit director and another guy from the other
county. He put me on speaker phone in the meeting. I explained what
I have been going through and the director of the paratransit said she had heard
about what has sorda been going on with not getting picked up on monday and said
she was going to pull my folder when she got back the office and talk to the
supervisor. When she said that I was a little worried b/c the supervisor had not
really worked with me in past complaints but I got a wonderful phone call from
that supervisor. They I suppose realized that they had make a mistake by
offering a certain service then decided to take it back when they realized that
they had made a mistake and said they would offer me the same service they were
providing before and would do so until May. I am so glad that I had
today off that I had a chance to make that phone call b/c before I didn't have
any time in my day to do so. Now it's a matter of dealing with the woman
that scheules my rides. She consistently gets my schedule wrong somehow. I
think she does it on purpose b/c she doesn't like me and there isn't anything
else she can get me for except to make me suffer or look bad to the
drivers. I'm out for blood now. Look out LOL!!
