Re: [QUAD-L] Loosing Liberty

2008-01-11 Thread Dan
I don't think that's their purpose. Why do we have to have a passport to visit
Canada? It wasn't Canada that required this it was us. Why? You now as well as
I that photo IDs (ask any college student) as well as passports can and are
forged all the time. Our government is not talking about illegal immigrants but
about terrorists'.

I live in the northeast and have made several trips to Canada. It felt great to
cross the border with no hassle or having to produce 'papers'. This is just
another ploy by are government to distract us into believing that this will
make us safe from terrorists.

Re: [QUAD-L] spinal fusion

2008-01-11 Thread D. B.
Danny what your describing sounds like you might have a
syrnix. I would suggest that you take a look at the attached
websites that can explain your possible problem

http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/archive/index.php/t-5966.html
http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/index.php

I'm a dwarf and I have had several back surgeries because of
my spinal stenosis. I've been cut open and fused from C1 to C7
and then from S1 to T8. I also have rods that help stabilize my
back that run from L3 to T8. I currently have a syrnix that's located
in my C2 to C5 area that has given me a lot of pain and increased
numbness which in turn causes me to take more meds. There's
a lot of excess pain not only in my back where the rods are, but I
also have a constant pain that feels like someone is squeezing
my groin and abdomen area. The doctor tells me that the syrnix
is causing this pain.

For those of you who dont know, I had to have my spine fused in several places
last May. Well it really began hurting last week like something was rubbing.
After the fusion was done, I had to have a screw removed b/c it was too close
to my aeorta so I worried something was shifting and went to my doctor. My
neurosurgeon is out of town so I went to my pain doc bc he used to be a
neurosurgeon at the University of MD. We had xrays done and he doesnt see
anything that would require me to have surgery, but I am in unbelievable pain
to the point I can barely move and its in more than one spot.

Has anyone else had any experience with the rods rubbing a bit or a screw? I
am hoping after taking it easy for awhile the pain will go down but it has been
getting a little bit worse every day and today it's about the same. It doesnt
hurt as much if I am laying down on my side without moving too suddenly but it
does hurt more to sit up and hurts a lot to adjust myself while laying down the
first time for the day. I've been staying in bed a lot hoping I can get the
pain down as pain meds arent helping very much.

If anyone has any ideas on how to try to get the pain withstandable, I would
apppreciate it. I have 3 cages and rods from top of tspine. One cage replaces
T 4,5,6,7 and maybe 8; another replaces T 11,12; and another replaces L 4,5,
and maybe 6. There is about 7 or 8 discs missing in all. In the lumbar
section there are a couple of sets of rods with rods next to rods. Lots of
metal!!! I tried to put a pic in but it couldnt be delivered.

Anyone else have this much metal?

You are right. There is a better chance of your banking info getting stolen
using a store unless you intend on paying in cash everywhere. I saw on 60 mins

Re: [QUAD-L] anyone know about beds

2008-01-11 Thread Dan
When I recently got a new mattress I found out that Medicare no longer will
purchase a fully automatic bed! They will only let you have a semi-automatic
which doesn't raise or lower the bed electrically. My DME provider said even if
you need a fully automatic bed in order to transfer indepently, our country
will no longer allow it. Why? Because they can't afford it! We can afford to
spend billions in Iraq but certainly not for us cripples. As McCain said,
"bomb, bomb Iran and we should stay in Iraq for a hundred or even a thousand
years!" I guess he has plenty of stock in the military industry. And as was
said here before they no longer let you get the chair or mattress you need -
only the cheap stuff for us. I guess we should just suck it up. Or we could all
move into nursing homes where the government says we'll get great care! And
they will gladly pay for it while giving us $20 a month - free money! Yay!

[QUAD-L] spinal fusion

2008-01-11 Thread Stacy Harim

Stacy

Hi quads, its been awhile since I wrote in. This is Dylan(Nirmal), been on here
awhile. As always, very useful communicating here. I did manage to get off the
ms, since early July for those who remembered my post about it.. Not an easy
thing to do.
There must be some of you in California. I would appreciate it if you who live
there would contact me at my email. I have family & friends there and am
considering relocating there. It would be great to get some feedback from
quad/s there.
On the topic of SP, I got one about 3 yrs ago and its been pretty much

[QUAD-L] anyone know about beds

2008-01-11 Thread John S.
A friend of mine is a C-4 and his bed just died. They replaced it with a bed he
can't raise to use his phone because it cranks to move up and down. It has to
lower down so he can change channels on his TV. He can't use the controller it
does have because his fingers and wrists do not move. The controller for his
old bed wouldn't work because different companies made them. (many years ago).
Does anyone know anything about getting beds through Med/Med and the bed
actually being usable. His doctor prescribed a bed but the DME says what they
delivered is what he is allowed to have.
At the moment he is sleeping in a lift chair with a bed bag attached to his leg
bag.
Is there any chance he is eligible for a voice activated thing that could
operate it? (His old one was sip and puff and hung around his neck.)

Re: [QUAD-L] supra-pubic catheter

2008-01-11 Thread KK
SP has nothing to do with the stomach. It goes thru the skin directly to the
bladder.

I have had mine for 3 years now. Much fewer infections now than before.

Mine is changed every 3 weeks. When I felt it in for 4 weeks I got more
infections.

Re: [QUAD-L] supra-pubic catheter

2008-01-11 Thread John S.
Women can have a few internal problems that might make a Supre-public cath a
problem. Dropped bladder, dropped uterus, Sounds like some women just come
apart inside. If you see some women that have had lots ofchildren and their
kidneys are just below their C-7 vertebra...well, you get the picture. Bladder
augmentation would be slowly stretching your bladder so it would hold more
urine. This can help reduce the risk of autonomic disreflexia in some paralyzed
people. It is important that you be a great judge of how much your bladder is
holding as residual.
A Urologist can be a fountain of knowledge...metaphorically speaking.

All my prayers and best wishes,
john

Wheelchair,

What will make someone unable to accept SP? What is the
difference between bladder augmentation and SP? I have an appointment with
my urologists in February. I guess he will explain all this to me.
I'd just like to get input from those who have experience with SP, which will
help with my decision.

I went to my doctor yesterday and she suggested that I have a super pubic
catheter put in, because I am constantly plagued UTIs. I don't know if this
is a good idea or not. I don't have access to a shower, so I just get bed a
bath every day. I have read several things on this list regarding
supra-pubic catheters, and I don't think many of them were positive.

Can some of you shed some light on the subject for me. What are the
advantages and disadvantages? Keep in mind that I do not have hand
function. Thanks in advance.

Don't believe all the negative hype about Facebook or Myspace etc. Of course
you're not going to put your bank account or SS number on any non-secure site.
But these sites - Facebook, Myspace, etc. sites are just like this list only
you can post pictures and YOU control it.

It's funny how some people are afraid of doing business using the Internet. My
