[QUAD-L] Meditation instructor here

2008-03-30 Thread Bobbie299
Hi All,
I've been out of the loop for a while. I just finished a six month
training program and am now a certified meditation instructor. Me and nine
other
disabled people were trained paid for by a grant from Kessler Institute. I
really love it. It has helped me with my pain level. If anybody has any
questions,
ask away.

Re: [QUAD-L] Grocery store adventures

2008-03-30 Thread Maria
A couple of times people have come over to hug me and pressed my leg bag
drainer buttons by accident.. And yes, they basically hugged the
pee out of me. I have learned to not only make sure my wheelchair is turned
off but to also make sure I hug people on the opposite side of my leg bag
drainer buttons or to just leave my drainer off when I will know we will be
somewhere where hugging might occur. :-)

One time visiting relatives, I was petting their dog and the dog jumped
right on my joystick. My wheelchair headed straight one of my relatives but
didn't quite make it all the way. That was a close call. Now I have to
look for animals that might jump on my lap. :-)

Happy Sunday and have a good week everyone. :-)

Yelling your supposed to leave those wheelchairs in the store I need it to
go shopping. Then there is also those wonderful days that I manage to get
in front of someone with an overloaded cart. Being in a manual chair they
don't see me and BAM! Back pain for the next two days. What a bummer.

I just rejoined, too! Can you give us all online meditation sessions? Might
be a cure now that online activity can be considered a mental illess... right?

Best!

I'm surprised that you were not taught that in rehab, as that is quite
common with chair users. Standing frames are good, but don't rush into it until

you have talked with a physical therapist before you try one.
Learn what needs to be done to strengthen your bones first. Then as
always...

Re: [QUAD-L] Standing Therapy to Prevent Osteoporosis

2008-03-30 Thread LadyNotes
Gary,

I had standing therapy in the standing frame for a short period of time (one
month, twice weekly) in order to prepare me for a walking therapy. I had to
be able to stand in the standing frame for at least 45 minutes without my
blood pressure plummeting before attempting to use the walking machine. This
was the extent of my standing therapy.

I'm happy to say that I succeeded in the standing frame and am currently on
a walking machine called the Locomat _YouTube - Locomat_
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ryp5YavgO2gfeature=related) I certainly hope
this will be a help
for me.

I have been in my wheelchair for nearly 3 years. I do not have
osteoporosis, but after being in the chair for so long, it was good to try to
stand.

Exactly, what does a Mediation Instructor do? I mean, what do you mediate?

Well, Naomi, that's a rather large question. A meditation instructor would
guide their students through a journey of a thought process. I would teach
different techniques of meditation, there are around 20 different types.
Basically,
it's about relaxing the body, mind and sprit. You would concentrate on the
here and now called mindfulness. It has helped me better control my pain level
by thinking it away. If your not receptive to this way of thinking, than this
may sound like a bunch of horse crap. The mind is extremely powerful when
used the correct way. A person can worry them selves sick and in the same
respect a person can calm them selves down.

If your still interested, let me know and I'll go into more detail. Or
you can get a book from the library Meditation for Beginners and check it out
for yourself.

After reading some of the confusion, maybe I can help? The word isn't
mediation, it is meditation.
I think it is great that anyone is exploring this.
