Re: [QUAD-L] Any tricks?
It will hear that far away, how close you have to hold your arm to your mouth. That is amazing and a great idea. Thank you very much. Dana
Re: [QUAD-L] Any tricks?
The use of tapes and adhesives has become an artform. I have those same arm troughs that split every 3 to 4 months. I use a silicone based glue that my cousin swiped from work. Then wait a day and put a wrapping of top quality duct tape over it. Careful not to get wrinkles in it as We cover the entire arm. Usually lasts about 2 years after that. lol john C-5 post 31 yrs -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Tue, 23 Jan 2007 3:47 PM Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] Any tricks? Duct tape works for many minor repairs and attachments also. One problem I've had for years is arm rest pads cracking and wearing out in no time! It seems like I just have them replaced and 4 months later they start to crack and it's down hill from there. I tried Duct tape, Duck tape, Gorilla tape nothing worked as they all started to move or came off in no time - until I tried wide electrical tape. I've had it on for at least 6 months and it's still like new. Nice and smooth and easy to keep clean. I know the wheelchair manufactures could make an arm rest pad that would last a long, long time but they would rather you purchase new ones every 6 months. For instance...for my boyfriend..we use velcro strips for EVERYTHING. To hold vent tubes in place. As leg straps. And to hold his hands on the chair. We also use those plastic ties that slide thru..not sure what they are called. But they come in different sizes. Use them to hold wires in place on his chair. We have even used them to hold the chair together when it has been broken. Also bungee cords...those little elastic straps with hooks on both ends...come in handy to keep his control arm in place so it does not fall out of his reach. And keeps his vent in place on the back of the chair so it does not swing around and fall off. Just looking to see what other ideas you guys have come up with. It always helps to learn new things. RE: [QUAD-L] Any tricks?
I save the rubber straps and rubber caps from my leg bags (only some brands work well.) I use the caps for my typing stick. And the straps are great for exercising and other things. (I put one around my head and slip the phone receiver under when I'm on a long call.) Etc. Bluetooth is great too. Makes cell phones easy. I think even if I couldn't use my arms, if I put it around my neck on a necklace, I could push the button with my chin. Re: [quad-L] Any tricks?
It seems like there are a lot of tricks we all employ in all aspects of our lives. It isn't as though we represent a large portion of anyone's target group when they think up a new product. I think using a sheer stocking for the remotes is pretty slick, (That is really an environmental control unit) extra long chains on lamp lights, mounting the dresser to the wall, cut off the legs it is now at the right height and I won't bump it with my foot like that again! and knots in each end of a short cord make a better drawer pull. Always wear jogging pants to the doctors. Doctors don't always have great personalities, so don't get upset unless they are stupid. Always suck up to the customer support people when you call to complain since they send you free stuff. When the nurse says, this might hurt a little it will hurt like hell. When you're shaking all over and loosing consciousness, you're having a siezure not an increase in spasticity. A sore is organ damage and can kill you! . Treat it with care. Get the very best wheelchair they will pay for because they won't pay for the best chair. Don't drink in public, people will think we are all drunks. If you have little plates that ur heels rest on, get someone to make plates the size of your feet and bolt them to the little plates, this will protect your feet when you turn too tight and you will. Broken feet and toes cause autonomic dysreflexia and most quads die of dysreflexia. If you can get an overhead lift, great! You still need a hoyer lift because it is MOBILE. You can't take an overhead lift on a trip. Uncontrolled anger will hurt you, learn to laugh. Its not much of a life if you never do any living, try to achieve something and be happy. I'm pretty certain most of us don't get the same care that politicians and rich people get, so we should try to approach healthcare smarter, or go into politics. I hope that is any help. john -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Mon, 22 Jan 2007 11:01 PM Subject: Re: [quad-L] Any tricks? Re: [QUAD-L] Any tricks?
Hi Amy, Here are a few of what I call 'Cheap Tricks.' When I'm in bed use the leg of a sheer panty hose to put all of my remotes into and then tie the cut end at the appropriate length so that I can either hang them off the bed or pull them up to use (remember to point all remotes toward the toe) them. I also use a length of oxygen or fish aquarium plastic tubing to run up to my bedside standing lamp, and then down to my half gallon water Thermos. I don't need someone getting me water all the time this way. At night I just stick the tube between my fingers and I'm able to drink at night. After my Mom moved in with me, she'd wake me up at night to ask if I called her. I bought a cheap doorbell that plugs in an electrical socket, plugged it in next to her bed and hung the button on my bed. Now Mom sleeps great because she knows if I DO need her, I can buzz her. :) With Love, CtrlAltDel aka Dave C4/5 Complete - 30 Years Post Texas, USA Amy Davis [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi guys.
