drink alot more
you'll always have bacteria in your urine w/ an
indwelling.

Have you considered an Supra pubic?

  Hey everybody,
  I guess you've answerd these questions 1000
times, anyway here goes. For 3years I have been straight cathed every
4hr's, just lately ive started reflexing. Stay wet at night and somtimes
of the day, so I had my sister put in a indewling last tuesday. The Dr
wrote a order for the new caths but didn't tell me much about them, except
change monthly. I read all your post about Infections and flushing with
this and that, any input will be greatly appreciated. Not having the
aggravation of being cathed every 4hrs is great, but don't won't to keep a uti
  all the time.
  Thanks Silas
  P.S. I don't know anything about a
  indewling cath.

Maybe you can start using a condom cath.

Hi Silas, I was straight cathed for first 3 years of being
paralized, then due to complications with blockage and so on the doc told me to
get a supra-pubic cath... I have it changed once a month or so. With regular
cathing or indwelling you will usually get infections, I think the men who have
a condom cath do the best on avoiding infections.

vitamin c several times a week causes stones in many quadseven with that
advice I still take 500mg about twice a week.everyone has a different body
system tho.

My doctor takes 3000mg per day and recommended I do the
same. Haven't even caught a cold even when people around me have been
sick since I started taking that amount daily. I've never had kidney
stones.

I only cath twice a day, when I get up in the morn and when I go to bed at
night. Seems to work pretty well.

I find it interesting that several people have recommended external condom
caths. I am not able to void at all on my own so an external catheter would
not work for me.

I get straight cathed anywhere from 6 to 10 hours apart during the day
while out of bed and every 2 to 3 hours at night when in bed. It comes out
to 4 to 5 times in a 24 hour period. Have been doing this for 16 years.
I've only had 1 UTI about 12 years ago. I do take 1000mg of vitamin C 3
times a day and mainly just drink water, and not even large amounts, just
about 6 to 7 glasses a day.

Silas,
I think you should consider using an external cath if you're emptying ok.
It'smuch better for you and less chance of a uti.

 Hello Silas,
How are you doing? In responce to this Cathing every four hours or wearing
a indewling catheter. Two years after my accident I had what the Doctor calls
a "Sphincteronomy", it where they cut the Sphincter Muscle that controls
when you pee. Well when you could know in your mind it was time to go,
your mind would tell the Sphincter Muscle let it go. This is geting a little to
juicy to keep explaining it. "LOL" You need to see a Urologis in order to have
the operation. After you have the operation, you can then wear a external
catheter called a "Texas Catheter" and use a leg bag drainage system during
the day, and night drainage system while in bed. It gives you more freedom so,
the catheters after the operation will be called "Freedom Catheters". I use it
and theres no need to find a bush again big enough to go pee.

I always felt that if someone was going to put an indwelling cath in, I
want a hug first and a cuddle after. j/k
Have you considered an external cath. Not many UTI's. You only cath to
check and make sure there's less than 50cc's residual. I haven't checked my
residual in over 5 years.
