I'm trying to find another catheter my doctor doesn't like the silicone
catheter I've been using. My UTI's are better, but they are so stiff. He says
could be some of my problems when changing it and stuff.
So, are the silver coated better and less stiff?

I use the Bardex IC (Infection Control) 16fr. It says it has a silver coating.
I tried the Latex clear one, but it was so stiff, I was sweating within
minutes.

st1\:*{behavior:url(#default#ieooui) }I think the silver ones
are much better, certainly much softer. No way can I use those hard silicone
ones. I start sweating the second they are inserted.

Silver has mild anti-biotic qualities. It was used for a long time as an anti
biotic. it is illegal to sell it and tout it is anti biotic, but a lot of folks
swear by the silver catheters. In tests, it is suppose to show inhibited growth
of bacteria. A lot of people on here use colloidal silver for the same reasons,
including wounds. Be sure to get the real stuff. I don't think it can harm
you as long as you use it as directed.

My husband changes mine about every four to six weeks.  If it's working fine I
like to go to the six weeks.  I had a urologist tell me if it works go longer,
when that's changed is when you can introduce bacteria.  I also take 1 g of
urex per day.  I know this has helped me not get bladder infections.

I would like knowing how long at a time people go before changing their supra
pubics.  Mine has been changed near every six weeks but I would prefer to go
longer.  Thank you.

I was going three weeks, but two of my doctors have now told me to start
changing the catheter every two weeks.

BTW, I haven't had a chance to let everyone know what happened that my
physical, but so far the general believe is that my stoma has developed scar
tissue and now I have to have it dilated so we can get the larger catheters
back in to my super pubic stoma. I'll let you know when I see my normal
urologist.
