RE: [Quantum Owners] 2+2 saloon needing new home
Hi Ken Can you let me know the registration of your car so I can check to see if your car is on the clubs list of known cars. Sent you a email a few days back but presume you didn’t get the email. My Email is quantumhistor...@btinternet.com if you don’t want the details of the car in the public domain. Good luck with your sale as red is by far the best colour that suits the quantum saloon & such as shame you are having to let it go. I know how it feels as I had to let my quantum 2+2 a few years ago & regretted it for years after. Covid got me early on and after effects are still with me so I can't see me able to revive the car in the near future. RE: [Quantum Owners] ULEZ compliant?
Just checked mine and the saloon registered Dec 1987, according to DVLA, built on a 1987 E plate donor, currently on a dateless vanity plate, is not compliant for any of the ULEZ/LEZ. My other classic, registered June 1976, which is registered as historic & MOT exempt is also showing as none exempt from the TFL ULEZ charge. Not likely to ever go anywhere near London but a concern as the amount of zones spread. Paul Sent from Mail for Windows From: susanandmartin Sent: 03 May 2023 10:49 To: quantumowners@googlegroups.com Subject: [Quantum Owners] ULEZ compliant? Planning a trip to London in a modern tin box, we checked to see if the car is ULEZ compliant (no real surprise that it is)…. Just being curious I entered the Quantum registration number to find it was also compliant! This is a huge surprise, as it is a 1987 donor with a CVH engine and E-prefix registration number (albeit V5 says ‘first registered 2009’ when it was SVA’d). It would be interesting to find if other Quantums get the same result Check your vehicle (tfl.gov.uk) Martin Scott Sent from Mail for Windows 10 -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Quantum Owners Group" group. RE: [Quantum Owners] Engine mount Timing side
No the rubber parts do not remove normally. The top upper engine mount require a couple of modifications. It requires one of the tabs cutting off and a small extension welding onto the bottom of the mount so the lower mounting hole is moved onto the welded extension piece. The mounts were normally exchanged by QSC when the kit was bought but the change is not that big even if you need to pay someone to modify the mount for you. Best using your original as a template. RE: [Quantum Owners] Radiator
We used rivnuts on the rad mounting flange, needed a couple of holes drilling in the rad flange but plenty big enough and nice thick alloy on airtec rad, so the mounting bolts can be accessed from the engine bay side doing away the need to try and get hands inside the nose cone area. As Jim says changing the sump gasket with the engine in the car can be a character forming job. We have done it and if that’s the only reason for engine out I would have a go with the engine in. RE: [Quantum Owners] Wheel and Tyre fitment 15 " 7 wheels and14s...and Hello :)
We never went as wide as 7. The ones we used were 6.5 or 6 wide. Current ones on mine are 6 with a offset of 36 Best width wheels for 195 tyres are in the 6 to 6.5 range to keep the sidewalls at the best angles. When buying the new wheels for the saloon I was tempted for going bigger just for the looks but arch gap and tyre profile then start to look a little silly. If your car has been fitted with lowering uprated springs best bet is to get some standard xr2/normal fiesta front springs and if you can find some a set of standard 1100 fiesta rear springs. Of all the rear springs we tried the 1100 rear springs were the sweet spot for the last quantum. On the xr2 originally the front spring rating was not that much higher than a standard fiesta but the rear xr2 springs were a lot higher rating. Not that many xr2 or quantums will have the originally fitted springs now anyway. We tried wheel sizes from 13 to 16 inch. For comfort 13 inch were by far the best for comfort but the wheels looked too small and the handling was the worst of all tested. The stock size it came with was 14 inch, it was fitted with the ford lattice xr3i cabro style wheels. They looked ok and it drove better than with the 13’s. For us for road use 15’s fitted with 195 45 15 tyres is the best compromise of looks, easy to get tyres and good road manners. When we tried 16’s they were very very harsh and on a track superb but for road use a step too far. When I bought my saloon it was fitted with 15 wheels, ford style again which I didn’t like as too modern, so bought a new set of wheels for it. The wheels bought were 15 inch using the same logic that applied to the 2+2. Fitted with 195 45 15 there has never been any tyre rubbing even with 4 people and the dogs in the car. In my experience the brand of tyre can effect the way the 2+2/saloon drives almost as much as wheel size. When I bought my saloon it had 15s with 195b 45 unbranded tyres and the ride was quite harsh yet when fitted with the new wheels which are the same size apart from 2mm less offset fitted with toyo tyres and the ride is much better. [Quantum Owners] Request by QOC historian for Quantum Saloon information
Hello everyone I am the historian for the Quantum Owners Club & am current updating the QOC records for the quantum saloons. I took over the position of club historian a short time ago and in that time there are three main questions asked by new owners. Those are:- How many were produced? How many are left/How rare is my car? How many are on the road? The first is easy to answer but the second and third are not so easy to answer but the more quantum saloons that are on the list of cars the more accurate the answer becomes. I started updating the records with the saloon as I am slightly biased being a saloon owner myself & had already been scouring the internet for quantum saloon details to see if I could get a picture together of how many quantum saloons are left and how many are on the road. Can owners of quantum saloons please get in touch & let me know the registration and if possible the chassis number of your car/cars. If you do not want the details in public I have a email you can contact me with the details. quantumhistor...@btinternet.com Currently the updated QOC list for the Quantum saloons is just over half of the production run of cars but I am hopeful that more saloons can be added to the list with the help of owners. In this day and age I doubt there are many quantum saloons on the road that have not been photographed and appeared on the internet or social medio. There will be some but a small number. Its the cars people own that are mid restoration or awaiting work that will not have been photographed. Even if you used to own a quantum saloon can you let me know the registration so I can check to see if it is on the current list of cars. Any questions please let me know at the above email address. Once I have gone as far as I can go and exhausted the search for quantum saloons I will be moving on to the other quantum variants & doing it a single model at a time. Thank you Paul QOC historian -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Quantum Owners Group" group. RE: [Quantum Owners] Brake Servo Problems
We grew tired of the original servos failing. From the 5 failed servos here its always the big diaphragm that fails, well it is with the ones we have here. We did manage to patch a couple of them but the repair held but they failed quickly at a different point & of all the seals the big diaphragm is NLA. Finding a good early Ka or Mondeo servo can be tricky with the good ones fetching silly money. We went down the compbrake bias brake setup which is a bolt on conversion that replaces the original servo and master cylinder. Not cheap mind but a permanent solution plus has the added advantage of cheap easy to get master cylinders and the ability to adjust the brake bias to exactly as you want it. Can anyone direct me to, or supply me with, a working servo for a 1986 1600 CVH engined Fiesta or the part number for. Failing a replacement - does anyone know what else it can be - the pressure required to get the brakes to work is as if there is no assistance from the servo. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
