I'd have to agree on this (as I've said before), I really don't need

It's ridiculous to end up with another remote every time you purchase a

Now why would it be so hard to support that kind of line, if you forget
for a second how cumbersome it will be to enter it into the radio?

Because that's exactly the problem. WPA key is defined as a limited
subset of 7-bit ASCII, so that's already covered. Any valid WPA key can
be entered on the Radio. The character set for SSID is however not
defined, it's actually just spec'ced as bytes, so the text
representation is up to the implementation. Adding the entire 8-bit
ASCII set to the text entry control would slow down everyone else's
entry speed significantly just to cater to an edge case.

I'll ask again - why would you want to set your SSID to something that
looks like a CRC error? It doesn't provide any additional security so I
just don't see the point. Having said that, it would probably work if
you stopped hiding the SSID as wellwhich is another pointless non
security-enhancing measure that people seem to think is a good idea.

[SlimDevices: Radio] How do I get it to play the radio as an alarm?

My Radio has just arrived and am liking it so far :)

I'm just in the process of setting it up and for the life of me can't
figure out how to get it to play the radio as an alarm.

If I go into Alarm Sound the only options are the current playlist,
or one of the inbuilt sound effects.

How do I get my Radio to play the radio to wake me up?

This might be convoluted, and there might be a better way, but since
there should be an option to assign a Favorite as an alarm sound, add
the station(s) in question to your fave list and then pick from there.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] How do I get it to play the radio as an alarm?

You should have the option to add a radio station as a favorite.
However, if your radio is connected to mysqueezebox.com, this doesn't
work due to a bug. To work around this bug, you can go to the
mysqueezebox.com web page and add the favorite there.

If you are connected to squeezebox server (squeezecenter), you should
be able to click the wheel, or press the + key and have an option to add
the current station to favorites.

Yes that is correct. I just logged into my Radio so that should work.
Quick question: In Putty you do have SSH bulleted? And when you attempt
login it doesn't ask, Login as: ?

Try this: Goto Settings Advance Remote Login and click the enable
box. Now leave the Radio at that point without making any other changes.
Now use Putty to attempt a login. I know this shouldn't matter, but when
I have trouble logging in, this always works for me.

As far as addressing your question about which room my players are in,
I currently have a Boom in the master bedroom on my nightstand. The
other players are in my family room, game room and home theater. The
Radio (which should arrive today :)) will be going in the guest bedroom.
Assuming I like the Radio as much as I think I will, I'll probably buy a
second one for my kitchen. This would be another scenario where
adjustable dimming would come in handy. There would be no reason to dim
it all the way down in the kitchen, and yet it would be nice to dim it
somewhat at night to conserve energy.

clear to me that Logitech has no intention of making the new players

how presets are handled also seems deliberate), and I expect that they
also don't intend to make the old players adapt all the new behaviors of

Caleb, do you have more then two in your garage? If not, then you're
not even close to having too many yet!

I even have three in one room. An SB3 in the Master Bedroom in the
Audio Rack with the surround sound AVR for the wall mounted LCD TV. A
Boom on my night table and an SB Radio on her night table. Of course the
Boom and the Radio switch off as to which one ends up in the Master Bath

My better half probably thinks my definition of too many Squeezeboxes
is if there is more then a Transporter, Boom, and SB Radio in every room
of the house! Of course I might be in luck since the SB Radio has come
out and she really gets the Squeezebox thing now. Maybe there is hope
for a TP for every room as she said if I really had to have one for the

No, it would be because the selling entity has no employees and uses no

is triggered by the selling entity having operations within a given

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Ship date?

2009-10-12 Thread barbro66

I just got mine - very impressive!

It's much smaller than I thought - but I'm used to a huge internet
radio that I had picked up for $50 three years ago. The red colour
isn't as nice as I thought it would be, although perhaps I can pretend
it's Italian. At least it's different to black. The sound quality is
fine for kitchen listening.

I'd say the UI is a little on the complex side, but is full of nice
features. In particular the 1-5 preset buttons which just let you
just push a button and listen to radio without having to think. Very
nice how you can put a 'shuffle' option on the main screen too (although
'song mix' is a bit obscure for the iPod generation)

Often i'm cooking or something and i just want it to play some music
and not have to think about it and the radio meets that. I also
appreciated how it found 'local' radio stations when I was setting it
up.

One tiny bug is that the BBC app is called RADIO_PROVIDERS_BBC when
you add it to the home page.

This thing is full of attention to detail. Well done.

house indicates that their time is the same as the Boom's, so that the
Radio is the odd one out.

15 seconds difference is not going to make me late for work in the
morning, but I am curious about how this discrepancy exists. Anyone
 know?

The boom and other ip3k players don't have a clock really... what they
display is whatever the server tells them. (Not entirely true for a
Boom, it has a clock for alarms if the server fails, but it isn't used
for display at all as long as the server is connected.)

My radio won't be here until tomorrow, but I believe it just
periodically updates from the server. Not sure if it uses NTP for
syncing or not, but it's not just a blind display like the
Boom/SB3/SB2/SB1/etc line.

FYI, this has been fixed in r7847, and it will be included in the 7.4.1

set the alarm until then as a workaround.

It amounted to a one line fix, but not in a particularly obvious

[SlimDevices: Radio] Home button on Radio unresponsive

2009-10-12 Thread ghan

I'm very happy with my new red radio, it's beautiful and the sound is
amazing, but i'm having issues with the squeezeplay software.

I'd say the Home button should ALWAYS take you directly to the home
screen (excepts maybe when in a context menu), but it seems to respond
only when i'm only one level away from the home screen (when hitting
back would do the trick also).
What's more, as it didn't respond, i hit the home button a few times
more (asking for it, i know) and then it didn't respond to any keypress
or scroll action any more, but was still playing music. Then maybe 20
seconds later i get a spontaneous reboot, and to my surprise, when it
came back up, a message about recovering from a system error and if it
was OK to send diagnostics to Logitech. Well of course!
Automated bug/crash reports, that's a good step forward i think.

[SlimDevices: Radio] How do I get the Radio to connect to mysb.com?

2009-10-12 Thread gweempose

I just set up my Radio today and everything went smoothly. After
plugging it in and configuring my network settings, the Radio found my
local Squeezebox Server and connected to it. I tested it with both local
music and with internet based sources such as Rhapsody, and everything
worked flawlessly.

Next, I turned off my server to see what would happen. I assumed if no
server was found, the Radio would automatically ask me for my mysb.com
login information and connect to it. Unfortunately, this was not the
case. No matter what I did, it kept trying to connect to my local
server. I even tried rebooting the Radio, but I still kept getting the
same message, Can't Connect to Library. The only options it gave me
were Try again and Switch Library. Obviously, there is something I'm
missing. Anyone have any suggestions?

I am testing the Radio and Boom side by side at the moment. It's
immediately obvious that the Boom display reacts much faster to user
inputs. There is no lag on Boom at all, while there is noticeable lag on
the Radio. Most offending is the power off button. Sound gets cut
quickly, but display sticks around for like one second.

I really do like the SBRadio. I think it is very solid compared to other
similar radios. It has a nice cool look to it and the sound quality is
very good. The functionality is very good and the speed is fine; I do
not expect it to behave exactly like the SBBoom...it's a miniature. I
call it my Baby Boom and it does things that a radio should do in its
place...mine is in the kitchen. My Boom is next to my bed and serves me
well there. So, I think that Logitech did a very good job in designing
the Baby Boom. As a matter of fact I am thrilled with all the Logitech
products that I have. I have never listened to so much variety of
music;listened to many football games that are not locally broadcast;
listened to interesting talk shows.

Well, I admit I see benefits of the multi line screen and some changes
in the interface (like press the dial to play).

But the amount of bugs in the unit is pretty annoying. Another bug -
selecting an item on a random mix playlist (song mix) causes the cursor
to jump to whatever relative (wrt to the beginning) position after the
list is refreshed. One would expect it stay at the selected song.

Meeting a date certainly trumps quality at Logitech. I see it my
company and hate it with passion. I am almost there to decide to send it
back.
