I've got it installed and active, but there are no 'settings', and I can't find out how to invoke it for a particular track. This seems to suggest it might be automatic (eg. it remembers the position for the last ten tracks played), but I've just checked to see if some of my recently played tracks resume at the same point, and they don't. [SlimDevices: Radio] General Music Library question
Hi. I've been using a plain Squeezebox for a few years, and yesterday I added a Squeezebox Radio. At the same time, I reloaded my music library and playlist paths in media server. As a result (?), no music will appear under the artist, album, genre, playlist folders etc. I am using JRiver Media Center as my library/organizing tool, but my music is stored on an EHD (Western Digital MyBook). However, a workaround seems to be adding folders under the Library/Media Source/Media Foldes option. This will make the individual folders I am adding, appear under the Music Folders on my players. Still, no access to playlists etc. Is this due to storing my library on an external HD? It seems that my radio (at least) is set to find music on my C:\ catalogue. Any help would be much appreciated. In tea-spoon mode, please. I'm not at all any technically advanced. -- okvaal okvaal's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13234 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93577 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

@castalla Perfect, worked great! I now have 2 presets from Cobourg, where we stay in the summer, and 3 locals that we listen to here in Ottawa. I'm still trying to figure out the LMS vs mysb setup for getting the remote for wife's iPod. I'm using the LMS for her playlists from iTunes (I have a crud load of country saved on my server downstairs) but I can only control the SBR by manually going back to mysb.com ... [SlimDevices: Radio] Hypothetical Situation
This hasn't happened to me (yet) but I'm kept awake at night worrying about it. Perhaps it's happened to someone else and they can put my mind at ease. I'm running a Radio connected to LMS on a Windows box. I count on the Radio's alarm for my morning wake up in order to get to work somewhat on time. IOW, it's a clock radio. Some days it's set to the stream of a local radio station, while other days it's set to play some of my music tracks (stored on another computer in the house - not the one where LMS lives.) If the LMS computer goes down during the night, I know the alarm will still be triggered, but would it be able to connect to the streaming station and/or my music? I suppose I can stop LMS temporarily and set an alarm for a few minutes from now, and see what happens, but I thought I'd ask the experienced ones first. Your own music is 100% out it sits inside a dead computer . Radio stream is probably also out as alarm is initiated by the server . This gives you the *backup alarm !* which is looped piece of music residing on the unit itself funky disco of some kind :) This works for one alarm radio needs to see the server who has the alarm schedule at least once a day, backup alarm is good for the next alarm . If you want to be paranoid consider a radio stream that is silent, your favorite station may stream silence ;) Configure your cell phone to sound an alarm 10 minutes after the radio -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Thanks for the link to Fa Fa Fa. That'll certainly wake me up. @Mnyb - my music is on a different computer than where LMS lives. That would mean I -will- hear those alarms, yes? It would only be the radio streams that fail, correct? And yes, I was speaking of a situation where I did not lose power in the house, but for whatever reason, the LMS computer failed. Power supply dies, NIC fails, gets turned off by mistake, etc. So my router/cable modem would still be working. Therefore the Radio would be able to see the internet. Is the issue that LMS triggers the alarm, and not the actual Radio device? Does mysqueezebox.com come into play at all in this type of situation? The Radio shows an IP address for it. Thanks everyone for the pointers. mysqueezebox.com is just another server so the server that has the alarm scheduled triggers it, not the player , this is a leftover from the old players that where very slim, dumb as bricks practically the server did everything for them . You offer yet another scenario the server machine works but it cant find the music storage , radio stream configured from the server will work if internet works . But if LMS don't find the tunes in the alarm playlist ? What then ? on my boom I've heard a backup noise from the server itself , the server might have another backup tone in reserve . (sb Boom has a moronic 3 tone noise as local backup btw ) Well try and see what happening :) and report back to us . Btw if LMS lose connection to music storage while running it will very likely drop the whole dB and require a rescan afterward, same thing happens if you start LMS before storage is conected. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Hypothetical Situation
I've tried a few scenarios and all of them had the same result: - alarm set to play radio stream with LMS not available - alarm set to play music track/playlist with LMS not available - alarm set to play music track/playlist with music not available The default backup alarm (Fa Fa Fa) plays in every instance. However, I noticed two things with this. It look a little while for the backup alarm to launch. Under normal circumstances the alarm is heard when the minute flips over. With the backup, it took about 20-30 seconds for it to come on. More interesting (to me anyway) was the fact that the backup sound came from the Radio's speaker. I have a pair of powered computer speakers plugged into the headphone jack so I can have stereo music. But when Fa Fa Fa played, it was from the device itself. Which lead me to a final test scenario: - alarm set to play, speakers plugged in the headphone jack, power to the speakers turned off, LMS available. Amazingly, the stream came from the Radio's speakers. At this point, I turned off the alarm (at the Radio,) turned on the powered speakers, and turned on the radio. And the sound came from the powered speakers. At least I'll sleep better tonight knowing that if the box where LMS lives crashes, something will still wake me up. -- phred phred's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=52602 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93578 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Hypothetical Situation
Hi phred, this is all expected behaviour. - when your server is off, noone can tell the Radio what stream to play (the Radio only remembers the time of the very next alarm itself). So it will always play the Fa Fa Fa sound when there is no server. - the fallback alarm has a little delay. The Radio hopes all the time, that the server maybe is just a little bit slow with providing the necessary information about the alarm (i.e. what stream to play). - The Radio does not expect that you have speakers on the headphones out. It always expects headphones - and assumes that with high probability noone has headphones on in the morning. That's why alarms always come through the speakers. One final thing to note about the backup alarm: you should always configure the alarm via the Radio itself. If you are using the web-interface (or a remote on your phone or tablet) to change the alarm time then in the worst case your Radio is not really connected to the server (and thus never gets notified about the new alarm time). Then the fallback alarm also is not configured at the right time. If you configure the alarm directly on the Radio then you realize if it still has a connection to your server. -- bluegaspode Did you know: *'SqueezePlayer' (www.squeezeplayer.com)* will stream all your music to your Android device. My 10 year old daughter has a Radio in her room and uses it nearly every day. As others have mentioned, she's grown up around Squeezeboxen so she's fairly familiar with the process. I have a separate folder in Favorites for her which I work with her to keep up to date as her tastes/interests change. It's interesting (and sometimes a bit sad) to watch the progression of items coming onto/off of the Favorites. Some items are evergreen, others fleeting. She enjoys Pandora more than Rhapsody due to the instant variety it offers. -- ChrisNY ChrisNY's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5004 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93574 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Rickenbacker;690239 Wrote: I've got an 8 and a 13-year old, and I'm considering getting them each a Squeezebox Radio. Regards, In my experience, the only barrier is the ability to read simple words. After that, the SqueezeBox are perfect for kids. My older son was interested very early on, but could not do it, he was able to use the SB Touch at 5.5 year old, the SB Radio at 6 year old, and now at 7.5 year old he has a SB Touch with crappy computer speakers in his bedroom and can set alarms and use the remote control. My younger one at 4.5 year old is not interested yet, but I'll get him started soon. The SB Radio is sligtly more difficult to use than the SB Touch for kids, the rotary dial and the smaller screen are less intuitive, but my son can do it now trivially. I got him a Touch because of that and also because it's more fun with the various visualisation, he like the spectrum analyser a lot. With the SB Touch, I can also upgrade him to real speakers later on, I don't think the SB Radio speaker will cut it for a teenager. It was a big gift, but it's his most used gift, he wakes up to Lady Gaga every day and plays it many times (please, please, can't he play something else for a change). Forget about audiobooks, he hardly liten to them. He is using his SB Touch way more than me... Now, the main issue is : who is going to manage the music. From experience and talking to my friend, it's the crucial part, as they won't be able to do it themselves, well maybe your 13 year old could do it . That's also why I got him the SB Touch, so that I don't have to manage two databases and two tagging strategies. But, some of my friends prefer a clean separation of their music and their kid's music. I'm quite rigourous in my tagging, which definitely helps the navigation, at youg age the navigation needs to be somewhat simple. Note that before the SB Touch, Mom showed him how to play CDs, which ended up with scratched, lost and stuck CDs (I had to dissasemble the hi-fi to remove stuck CDs). The SB Touch is so much better, as there no mechanical parts, so little than can go wrong with messy kids. Have fun...
