I had much the same experience after installing Community firmware on my
radio recently, except that the warning (I only saw the first one) did
not return after a restart of LMS. I'm running 8.4.



Usually running latest beta LMS nightly on Raspberry Pi OS with virtual
players (Squeezelite and Airplay bridge). Occasionally using SB Radio,
Boom or Classic.

Update: I connected the Radio to my local LMS 8.2 install and it
connected!

Going to try community firmware.

Step 1: On the Radio go to Settings/Advanced/Applet Installer, install
the Patch Installer. The Radio will re-boot.
Step 2: Once it's back, go to Settings/Advanced/Patch Installer and
install the "Version Comparison Fix".

I was able to do Step 1, but Step 2 fails. The radio UI just made an
bouncing animation and does not show the "Version Comparison Fix"

The radio is connected to mysqueezebox.com. That was how I installed the
Patch Installer.

Or must I install LMS 7.9 and connect Radio to LMS 7.9 to install
"Version Comparison Fix"?

Looks like I got bit by this issue as well.

Radio has the version patch installed and works with LMS 8.0.0 but fails
with 8.2.0.

It worked on my SB Radio that had been limited to Squeezenetwork! Used
old computer as advised, with LMS 7.8.

yes I have but they don't all seem to be applicable to my case e.g. I
have an internet connection working etc.
Interestingly the SBR connects to the internet and downloads an update
ie the same firmware version that is already installed but having
restarted it will not have changed its behaviour. I am now trying to
reset it to factory settings

I have an LMS 8.2 installation on a RPi4, serving two Squeezebox Radios,
both running the last Logitech firmware 7.7.3-r16676 without the version
patch fix.

Radios connect fine and behave perfectly, I just ignore any outdated or
incompatible version messages.

Hi, I've bought a SB radio from eBay but I can't get it to connect to my
server (rPi3 running LMS 8.2.0 - 1627922070). I've entered my squeezebox
network credentials and I assume its connected to this although frankly
it's not clear. If I go to 'My Music' on the radio, enter my username
and password, I get the ' needs to be updated to a newer
version ...' message. After I've installed 'Patch Installer', it doesn't
appear in Settings > Advanced, so I can't go ahead to install the
version comparison fix. 

I've tried to install an earlier version of LMS on my Mac and on another
raspberry pi, but currently I can't get them running. Any help
gratefully received, thank you!

Hm, I meant how am I going to proceed with the update. But after several
restarts and reinstalling of applet installer, connection to mysb.com
and disconnecting again, there is still no progress. Where can I install

No. Just press & hold the power button for a few seconds (if you have a 
battery). Or unplug it (if you don't have a battery).

As of now mysb.com says the player is connected but I cannot do anything
in the browser interface apart from setting the alarm.
On the radio I cannot select network type/mysb.com.

Are you sure SBR is setup with your correct MySB.com account?  SBR >
Settings > MySB.com (I think) will show which account SBR is using.
If not the correct account you can do a Factory Reset on SBR and the
initial setup screens will ask if you want SBR to keep current account
or create a new one (i.e the correct one).

I have this problem too. I used to run my SBR with LMS v7 and then 8.0.0
- 160589207. SBR worked very well.
I now have a new LMS installation on an RPI running piCorePlayer v8.1.0.
SBR does not connect.
In accordance with above quote I wanted to connect my SBR to
mysqueezebox.com but it wouldn't let me. I haven't used mysqueezebox.com
in a long time but the account is still working. But SBR doesn't appear
there. I have no idea about how to connect.
I really wish I could update to the user-made firmware version for the
SBR. But this is still not possible? Couldn't I download the patch and
manually include it into any LMS version?

I have LMS 7.9.3 running on RaspPi via Max2Play. Trying to formally
patch my radios for the version bug, but having installed 7.9.3 and
installed the Patch manager app, when I go to the Patch manager, it
responds with "No patches found". 

Have I missed a setting somewhere?

Hi Michael (and others) :)

I am in this case:
- LMS 8.1.1 automatically updated ("justifiably" docker on QNAP)
- my 3 Squeezebox still at 7.7.3 firmware with the warning (and of
course no applet/patch installer available in the menu)
To avoid solution 2 (install 7.9 somewhere else), I have tried solution
1 on one of my 3 SB, restarted, but... even connected to
mysqueezebox.com (and even one hour after and 2nd reboot), still no
applet/patch installer (and if I go to firmware menu, says I have the
latest 7.7.3 version).
Any advice? Doing something wrong?

UE Radio is on firmware 8.01, Server on 8.2.
Before upgrading the wireless signal was prone to dropping out but
usually connected well initially. 

I had a two week period of perfect connection but for past three days
there is no connection to server until I manually connect to the network
on the Radio and navigate to the channel i want. Then the Radio appears
as a player on material skin and I can control it with my phone and
acquire logs etc.

The router shows the Radio on its expected IP address. Once connection
is made its stable. 

I have reinstalled firmware several times but no improvement. 
I can switch off the Radio and on power on it will occasionally
reconnect. 
I leave it on overnight, and in the morning and have to reconnect to
WiFi using the menu on radio.

I am using the "Low volume fallback alarm", "Green highlight" and
"Replace Font".  When I update my radios to community firmware, there
are no plugins available under the Patch Installer menu.

with intermitant warnings that the Radio needs patching.

Today I became more than slightly irritated by yet another
occurence.:mad:

So I downgraded my Windows 10 LMS to v7.9.3.

I reset the Radio to Factory Default, connect it to the LMS v7.9.3 and
performed the patch routine.

Swapped the Radio to LMS v8.1.2 running on a rpi4b and guess what /

Yes r16824 is the latest community firmware and you can update to LMS
8.2.  The firmware version will stay the same.

I have three Radios with firmware 7.7.3-r16676.
On Raspberry I have OSMC (it is based on Debian) and installed Logitech
Media Server Version: 8.1.1 - 1610364019

All works OK. :) But waiting for software updating (and for new firmware
for radios) but unf. nothing... 
Checking from time to time Advanced/Software Updates but got msg
"There's no updated Logitech Media Server version available."
How to maybe more force ask for update? ;) I can use command line if
needed.

THANKS MICHAEL AND SLARTIBARTFAST!

I did mean I was looking for 7.8 for my SB Touch's and not 8.0 and
didn't even know there was unofficial community firmware available.

So it still wasn't giving me the 7.8 firmware update option on the SB
Touch's, so I enabled "Community Firmware" in LMS 8.1.0 and it restarted
LMS and then my two SB Touch's immediately were telling me I could
update to *7.8.0 r16754, woohoo! *  
So maybe LMS just needed another reboot, or maybe it was enabling that
"Community Firmware"...

I still have the red warning about outdated firmware in LMS, but maybe
it will go away with a reboot (or maybe if I put community firmware on
SB Radio's).

So, I could have done (and can still do) "Community Firmware" on my
three SB Radio's instead of 7.7.3-r16676 and the Version Comparison
patch?

It should. You can enable logging for server.update 
(Settings/Advanced/Logging) to see what's going on. Leave it on for a 
day or two _without_ restarting your computer. Or make it stick through 
restarts by checking the box at the top of the logging page.

Do you mean this (in the below screenshot)?  

Because I still only get the option on my Touch's to upgrade to 7.7.3
r16676 which is up to date already... hmm...  will LMS download that new
8.0 SB Touch firmware in it's automatic updates?  (I have LMS 8.1.0
Linux running)

(also @gordonb3 and @slartibartfast - thanks for you input - the
warning in LMS about using outdated firmware went away when I removed
(unplugged and restarted LMS) the two Touch's with that 7.7.3 f/w)

Seems like a red herring to me. LMS should not have any issues
distinguishing between Radio and Touch (and other SB devices). You
probably have some (old) reference to a SB device that no longer exists.
You could check/edit your preferences file, but I was made aware just
recently that there is a third party plugin called `Client Cleanup` that
allows you to view unconnected players and remove them in a safe(r) way.

I have three Squeezebox Radio's with 7.7.3-r16676 all with the Version
Comparison patch installed.
I have one Squeezebox Touch with 7.7.3-r16676 also (and I don't think

I have two Squeezebox Duet with 7.8.0 r16739 (and I don't think need the
patch, and it doesn't give option).


I had LMS 8.0.0 with Linux 

I added a new Squeezebox Touch and attached to my Wi-Fi and let it
update to 7.7.3-r16676 and got this error message below that couldn't
attach to my LMS.
I updated LMS to 8.1.0 and still got the error message, and reset to
factory settings on the new Touch, still didn't work.
Tried to attach to Squeezebox.com server and spare computer running LMS
7.7.5 to patch, but patch was not available (and maybe not applicable to
Touch?).
Maybe I need to run LMS 7.9.3 to get a the Version Comparison patch for
the Squeezebox Touch (or is it not applicable to Touch???)

So I get this error message on LMS 8.1.0 when all the Squeezebox Radios
are unplugged/off and only the two Duet and one Touch are connected (and
I restarted LMS after detaching SB Radio's).

"You seem to be using a Radio with an outdated firmware, not recognizing
this version of Logitech Media Server. Please consider patching it"

So I unplugged the SB Touch, restarted LMS 8.1.0, and the error message
above went away, then I was able to add my new SB Touch (and turn all
the SB Radios back on, in addition to other Touch and two Duet), I still
have that RED error message in the LMS interface but everything is
working now, but I still have the RED error message in LMS 8.1.0.

So long story short... I don't think you need/can Patch the Squeezebox
Touch (correct???) but it is still messing with this problem I believe
and you need to unplug your other SB Touch's perhaps while you introduce
a new one ...   maybe LMS is just looking for this string "7.7.3-r16676"
and not checking if it's a Radio or a Touch, and not allowing adding a
new one while in that error state...

I was getting the horizontal bump and unable to navigate to the patch.
This has now mysteriously resolved itself. :shrug:

I followed the original instructions by using a new LMS v7
installation.

On the Radio go to Settings/Advanced/Applet Installer, install the Patch
Installer. The Radio will re-boot.  < no trouble
Once it's back, go to Settings/Advanced/Patch Installer and ... the menu
option just does a visual bump (nothing available)  !!

What's next?

getestet, war aber nicht stabil in dem Sinne, dass da nur ganz kurz
Infos auftauchten und dann eher Pixel-Quatsch (ggf. habe ich den auch
mit einem falschen Netzteil geschrottet, ließ sich zuletzt nicht mehr
anschalten).



Logitech Media Server Version in Max2Play 7.9 (Raspberry 3B, 4 x
Squeezebox Radio, 1 x Squeezebox Boom, 2 x Squeezebox Duet, iPeng (iOS),

Ok, that's considered a software Squeezeplay. Does it fail to connect?

While the patch might not apply through the patch installer, you should 
be able to patch it manually. It's not too difficult:

Someone maybe asked this already but I didn't see a clear response: what
is the point of bothering with tediously patching a bunch of radios now
LMS8 has the version comparison hack?   When I run the released version
of LMS8 my radios seem to work fine.


It's a bug, and it's good to have the bug fixed. LMS might have a work 
around it. But who knows what comes next.



Please can you point me towards this. I have some SqueezePlay 7.7.2
devices that seem to be unpatchable.


What would that be? A Radio?

LMS8 has the version comparison hack?   When I run the released version
of LMS8 my radios seem to work fine.

My SB Radio failed to connect and only succeeded after several reboots
and power-offs, after updating 8.0

I installed patch installer and the Radio rebooted
I returned to Patch Installer, but my only option is to remove 1.2.36
(not sure what that is).
I can't find anything that looks like "version comparison fix."

I did this previously, but factory reset my radio and am having issues.

I installed LMS 7.9.3 on a laptop, factory reset radio, and installed
patch installer.

When I select Version Comparison Fix, it hangs and I get no option to
install. 

I waited a bit, tried again and am getting "no patches found"

Is this a server issue?  Or am I missing something on my end?

I noticed the warning also via the control panel as everything works
fine on my SBR (old adage if it ain't broke :D). But I went ahead and
installed the patch via the applet installer, no problems. 

It is the second step that trips me up, there is no option for the
version fix, only uninstall. What obvious thing am I doing wrong?

PS: Everything even Spotty works fine.

As I said: you'll have to do this -before- you upgrade to LMS 8.

Is this still valid? I went to LMS 8 yesterday and I patched two Radios
today. No problems found.

No - it does not stop it working with 7.x
All it is doing is changing how it checks the LMS version number.

Because there's no patched firmware image.

Well, actually there is. But its makers don't feel comfortable 
distributing it, as it might brick devices. Feel free to step up and

"official" release, since a patched firmware is no more official.

Or... If the Radio is actually connecting successfully with the server
(How would the server know what version of firmware the player is
running if they haven't connected?), why not suppress this message?

I have the same, here.
System runs smooth, even with Spotty... not much issue, so what will
bring me the patch ?

Presumably because it is no longer supported by Logitech and making an
official firmware update would require many hoops to be jumped through
including the risk of extra calls to the Logitech support desk which is
probably not equipped to receive an increased call load from Squeezebox
users.

I had that message on my Information page also after doing a factory
reset of my SB Radio, but I was able to follow the instructions on the
first post of this thread and the message disappeared, I did not need to
revert to 7.x or setup a second 7.x LMS.

Not tried the AI optimise myself as we do not have much interference
although the 'Connect high performance clients to 5 GHz only' works
well. Fast Roaming beta option seems to cause problems though. The
debugging metrics provides a good way of discovering issues. The advice
is to set 2.4Ghz radio's to low power and 5Ghz radio's to medium power
especially if there are high Rx retries. Again almost everyone who opens
up the (amazing and comprehensive) Controller interface set the power of
the radio's to maximum thinking they will improve performance but,
counter intuitively, it can do the opposite especially with older
devices.
