[RBW] Re: Banana sax vs Berthoud saddle bag

I really like this
https://www.acornbags.com/collections/products/products/small-saddlebag?variant=9871657599020
And the medium bag. I have a like new medium I am going to sell as I find
the small to be surprisingly roomy.

I am also using a handlebar bag so I can do ok with the smaller.

Good luck.

Somebody needs to buy this! The Frank Jones Sr. is a wonderful single

it was during the pandemic anyway. I'm always happy while riding that bike.

Good luck with the sale!

[RBW] Re: Banana sax vs Berthoud saddle bag

2021-08-02 Thread Joe Bernard
I've owned both, although my memory of the Berthoud is 20-or-so years ago
now. I'm not sure I buy that the Banana Sax is literally twice as large - I
suspect Riv is reporting max stuffing and Berthoud an empty bag - but the
Riv bag is notably larger.

[RBW] Attach large graphic files instead of copying them into body

2021-08-02 Thread Patrick Moore
Can we as a group start attaching files instead of pasting them into the
email itself?

I've got a 42" hi-rez gaming quality screen that I use for work*, and even
so these large photos expand the email beyond the boundaries of the window,
so that one can see only half or 3/4 at most of the message. I think that
such files attached don't so distort the message.

Patrick "rant over now" Moore

* I can get 3 Word docs side by side with allotta room to spare at 90% and
still readable at 10.5 point Calibri.

[RBW] Banana sax vs Berthoud saddle bag

2021-08-02 Thread Drew Henson
Has anyone owned both of these?

Riv lists the banana sax as 7x9x5, which is ~ 5L give or take, probably a
little less given the taper. Berthoud lists the saddle bag volume as 2.4L.
In pics the banana sax does not look twice as large.

Thanks in advance!

[RBW] Re: Stubborn Brooks Saddle

2021-08-02 Thread lconley
I think I rode the Brooks Professional on my 73 Paramount for 5 years
before my rear conformed to the saddle. Mink oil, Neatsfoot oil, Proofhide,
rain, nothing seemed to phase it. I was putting major miles on it into the
late 90s, very comfortable for 20+ years. It is now 48 years old and has
developed cracks in the surface and seems to attract mold.

[RBW] Re: Who likes the original Atlantis?

2021-08-02 Thread Bill Lindsay
For anybody wanting to emulate the riding behaviors of an original
Atlantis, I'd enthusiastically recommend the Black Mountain Cycles Rim
Brake Monster Cross. It does everything an original Atlantis does. It
takes 700c wheels in all sizes, fits 2" tires plus fenders, has
traditionally short chainstays, braze-ons for everything so you can set it
up as a cross bike, drop bar trail bike, commuter, loaded tourer, gravel
racer, brevet bike, all the way down to a stripped down 22lb club bike. It
can do everything and anything. It does not have the lugged look if you
need that look. Every time Mike does a run, they all sell out quick. Get
on the next run if you like good bicycles.

While I don't have first hand experience with these tires, I have read
reviews that claim they are either true to width or just slightly wider
when mounted. Hope this helps.

[RBW] Share More Riv Riding Pics

2021-08-02 Thread True Golden
Thanks Patrick.
I also miss Deacon Jones posts and pictures. He certainly has a significant
skill in capturing stunning pics riding in the Pikes Peak area.

He still has a website I think under Deacon Patrick. A search should pop it up.

Cool pics and historical perspective Philip!

I've ridden up and down Swiss Avenue many times and always enjoy it.

Also your Platypus looks terrific!

Yeah, the heat and humidity. It does get to me also.

A break this week with slightly cooler temps...thank the Lord.
I measured 1.1 inches of rain yesterday and last night.

[RBW] FS Phil Wood F/Fr track hubs

2021-08-02 Thread J L
Hello group,

Anyone have a single speed project want some hew high bling hubs?

I have a set if silver 32h phil wood track hubs, flip flop fixed/free 120/100
spacing with the phil wood lock ring up for grabs. Phil Wood must be in between
production runs because they are sold out on these and have been for a while.

Bonus positive about these is that the hubs have no drop out rests so when one
removes the bolts wheels built with phil wood track hubs can drop out straight
down. This allows for a single speed / fixed drive train with perfect fender
line. I think that is a huge upgrade.

$400 obo shipped inside usa.
Please reply offlist

Cheers

Curious what leather dressing you used? I've only used neats foot oil and

[RBW] Stubborn Brooks Saddle

2021-08-02 Thread Lynn Haas
I have a honey colored Brooks Imperial saddle that I bought in 2018. It has
about 2,000 miles on it, and it looks and feels like new... in the worst
possible way.

I've doused it in leather dressing, stored it in a hot garage for a summer,
and put way more miles on it than I want to contemplate. It's had decent
exposure to rain and more than enough heat and sweat. Today I'm going to
swap back to an older Brooks that is nicely broken in, but that I don't
want to use long term for multiple reasons.

What to do?

[RBW] FS: Gravel King 650b x 48mm

2021-08-02 Thread Doug H.
I have a new set of Panaracer Gravel King 650b x 48mm or 1.9 inch tires for
sale. I bought these new from Rivendell last month and decided to go with a
700c build so they are brand new never even unfolded. Here is a link to
them from the Riv
site:
https://www.rivbike.com/collections/tires/products/zg645azzakjhseg-lka?variant=20575667388527

These sell new for $50 each so I'll take $80 for both plus shipping in a
flat rate USPS box which is I think is $15. So, $95 shipped? I'll include
two new tubes.

Re: [RBW] Handlebar/Stem pouch for Wine

2021-08-02 Thread Justin Kennedy (Brooklyn, NY)
Jason - should have shown you this on Friday when I saw you but another
option is the Tunitas Stowaway. Just got one for my Chev and can confirm
it's strong and big enough for transporting a wine bottle.

[RBW] Re: new Brooks B68S saddle on Ebay

I tend to like the shorter nose version as well. You might want to give it
a shot Bill!

[RBW] Re: WTB Billie Bars

2021-08-02 Thread Johnny Alien
It turns out that Soma has a few in stock. Everyone else seemed to be sold
out so I guess I lucked out in finding this. If anyone else is looking
check out Soma to see if they have some more.

[RBW] Re: new Brooks B68S saddle on Ebay

2021-08-02 Thread lconley
The B68S is not wider, but the nose is shorter. I have both. I kind of like
the S model because it is slightly less likely to snag the rear top of my
shorts when I mount from straddling the top tube. The B68 Softened is the
most comfortable though and the pre-punched holes allow color coordinated
lacing. I have one B68S that has the holes, but is black - not the softened
model.

Also , from searching the iBob group... the King Iris Cage does a good job

with a wine bottle in mine this week. It is snug enough to mar up the
label but it's super solid.
