I'll also include a free Silver2 thumb shifter mount and a 90mm Nitto
Technomic if you want something taller than the mounted Pearl stem.

[RBW] FS: Heat treated Albatross bars, Blue lug 25.4 threadless stem, 90mm generic 31.8 stem

2022-02-23 Thread Andrew Turner
I got some goodies to convert drop bars to alt bars but it made the bike a
little too stable so I'm just going to sell the stuff off. All of it is
brand new, so not the craziest deals but nothing's full-price either and
INCLUDES the cost of shipping (CONUS).

1) Heat treated Albatross bars: $120
2) Generic UNO threadless -17degree 90mm 31.8 stem with removed graphics:
$35
3) This
stem from BlueLug: 25.4 clamp, 1-1/8 black threadless 80mm: $100 (Came to
$115 after shipping, and it hasn't shipped yet so there will be a little
wait on this one)

Cheers!

Hi Pete,One option that might work is to swap the brake levers left for right,
so the pinch bolt is on the top, then the shifter could go below. Not seeing the
entire brake lever, I can't see how visually unpleasing that might
be...cheers,Andrew in Sydney

lower than I'd like, compared to others I've used.

I think they might be more comfortable mounted under the bar, and I've read
that's how they do it in Walnut Creek. I haven't tried this yet. But eyeballing

I've seen the video on the Riv site, but it doesn't show brake levers or grips

Re: [RBW] 52cm Wilbury (fancy!) frameset, never built, CL outing

2022-02-23 Thread 'JRStern11' via RBW Owners Bunch
The Saluki was the first 650b Rivendell production bike. I liked the light
green I had originally better, but this pewter, more lt. taupe) is fine. I have
all the parts except the brakes on it that I had on my first Saluki, they went
on the Bleriot and are now on a Saluki again. As soon as we warm up enough I
will have it on the road.

Hi Joel,

Thanks for your note and for the pics. I’d love it if you contacted Charlie on
my behalf. It would be interesting to get more of the bike’s story. I believe
the Yale student had a range of prices listed at various times, all the up to
$2,500. We came to a fair agreement and everyone walked away pleased :)

Your Saluki is fantastic. Something about Salukis does it for me — the name of
the basal breed and the head badge, the colors (I’ve seen them in “Hunqapillar
green", silver, orange, yellow, and red), the cantis, the proportions. I would
love to find one in a 59 or 60. If you ever hear of one for sale, please let me
know!

[RBW] Re: Cool Tools for Home Wrenchers

2022-02-23 Thread lconley
There is no physical difference between a machine screw and a bolt. How
they are used determines what they are called. If it is fastened with a
nut, it is a bolt. If it is threaded into something else (like a casting),
it is a machine screw. Take a machine screw out of a casting and put a nut
on it and presto change-o, the machine screw magically transforms into a
bolt. Thus, what are commonly called "head bolts" by millions of people
working on American V-8s are actually "head machine screws." The B-screw
is accurately named because it is not fastened with a bolt.
