[RBW] Re: Appaloosa Build Opinions

2023-07-06 Thread Dave Grossman
I once heard an interview with Jeff Jones on how to set up his H-Bar and he
mentioned using a stem short enough so that you can fully utilize his
bars. If the stem is too long, the curve at the front won't be used for
more "aero" riding and if it is too short the grips won't be comfy either.

I've tried to apply this to my Hunq and I ended up running a 120/Albas on
it! I suggest trying a few setups on the Joe until you feel like you can
utilize it in full.

[RBW] FS: Gore R7 Partial Infinium Gore Tex Hooded Jacket

2023-07-01 Thread Dave Grossman
I bought this last summer to use as a ligthweight packable jacket but I
just don't like the fit. Its under 6 oz., a really nice color, stretchy,
and really good in the rain. Not a full Gore Tex rainshell (hence
partial), but really great for warm weather, bikepacking, and travel.

Here are the specs from
Gore:

[RBW] FS: Edgevale Canvas Shorts 34W MUSA

2023-06-21 Thread Dave Grossman
I actually found about Edgevale from the group a bunch of years back when
someone posted about a Chambray shirt they had purchased. Since then I
have purchased a myriad of items from Edgevale.

They are made in California, 9 oz canvas, gusseted crotch, and an 8.75"
inseam. Both are 34 waist. They have a few marks from use but overall are
in great condition. These are durable for all sorts of activities,
especially riding. I have fallen in love with stretchy pants this year so
I am downsizing a bit of my canvas collection.

It works great ... The only other thing that keeps me from
 recommending it
to everyone is that if you ride upright bars like any of the Riv

the water will pool between the bars. Not a big deal but it happens as
these seem to be designed more for drop bars?

2023-03-05 Thread Dave Grossman
I'm building my son his first "grown up bike", a 13" Trek 950 Singletrack
frame and am raising money for the build.

First up are Davinci cranks. These are 170mm and 104 BCD. You can order
different spiders from Davinci. These are light, strong, and beautiful.
Billeted and made in the USA. Low Q factor. I bought them a few years ago
to run on my Hunq but I have been using my XD2s as I like the ring options
of a 110 BCD.

Asking $200 shipped CONUS via Priority Mail

Next up is a Frost River Vintage Pack. Made in Duluth, a huge pack
designed for all sorts of adventure. 18 oz waxed canvas. Classic and
beautiful.

Re: [RBW] Widest tires on green Quickbeam?

2022-11-30 Thread Dave Grossman
I have 42 Soma Grand Vitesse on currently. I tried Big Apples once but
couldn't get them to fit. I wonder if clearance is much difference between
colors at all? I have a pair of Snoqualmies from my recently sold Homer
that I will try once the weather gets nicer. In the winter I run 35
Marathon supremes and fenders and its worked great. I have Belgiums so I
suppose I am maxing out width as well with those.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been running Soma Supple Vitesse in a 42 and
they clear fine without fenders on Belgiums. I tried to mount some Big
Bens for fun and the front was fine but the rear didn't work. I think a
38-40 is the sweet spot for the QB. I'm debating throwing my SKS fenders
back on and with those I used to run 35 Marathon Supremes or some 32 Gravel
King slicks.

[RBW] Green QB and Rock and Roads

2022-09-16 Thread Dave Grossman
Can any green QB owners (I have a 62) confirm that they can fit a Rock n
Road in their frame? I'm running a 42 Supple Vitesse right now and want to
max out some knobbies.

Re: [RBW] Re: Differences between Sam Hillborne and A Homer Hilsen

2022-08-29 Thread Dave Grossman
I have an older Homer (not sure if it is Waterford or Toyo but I'd like to
know actually) and having owned a Roadini I can say I find it a much
superior all around bike. I hadn't considered a Sam since I have a Hunq
but I can do light touring and backpacking with my Homer if I desire. I
rotate it in my commuter stable with the Hunq and I end up riding it quite
often. I currently have it set up with Crust Towel bars (with a large Fabs
in the middle!), VO fenders, and 44s. I have it maxed out, but it is such
a great ride. I've thought about getting a stripped road bike but the
Homer is so versatile. I think if I didn't have the Hunq, I'd be more
inclined to get a Sam. But if you already have a hauler an older Homer is
the way to go. I have a 63, which I am on the small side for with a 90
pbh, but it fits great and I love the ride. My Hunq is a 58 and while I
can clear a 62 (I've ridden the 62 before) I love having the clearance that
a slightly smaller frame allows for the rough stuff.

[RBW] Re: A Hunq

2022-04-24 Thread Dave Grossman
The fenders are pink! They are planet bike and I don't think they are in
production anymore.

The rack mounted really easily. The side mounts move vertically so they
are easy to line up with the brazeons. It is a heavy rack but pretty
bombproof. It can fit a Wald 139 on top with two bags. I haven't been
bikepacking on it with the rack but I plan on trying it out in the next
couple of weeks. I've normally just used a basket but I really want to try
the panniers.

Sizing is a 32-34 for the large. I am a 33ish, and while I can fit a 32,
they are snug, as these are. My hips are not compliant. If you are closer
