[RBW] Re: WTPF - Nitto Noodle, Albastache, and 70mm Tallux stem

2024-01-02 Thread Jon Craig (Vendraen)
I am really, really sorry folks! Some very bad life stuff, and then the
holidays happened and I honestly just dropped the ball on this. :( It's
my fault, I should have done better. I'll post again in a few days and
open this stuff back up to takers. Please forgive my dropping the ball.

Re: [RBW] Re: WTB new Rivendell saddle or other saddle with proper bag loops

2023-12-15 Thread Jon Craig (Vendraen)
Eh, I don't think the loops on the Acorn Large Saddlebag will reach my
rails. :(

I have the old, 2016-era Rivendell stock saddle with the weird ovular loop
on the back; it's not wide enough to use as loops for this bag (or maybe
any bag) and it also blocks things.

[RBW] WTB new Rivendell saddle or other saddle with proper bag loops

2023-12-15 Thread Jon Craig (Vendraen)
Looking for a cheap saddle with proper bag loops - the new Rivendell one or
perhaps one of the V-O ones that have loops. Hopefully someone's got a
saddle they don't use or didn't work for their body that they'll let go

[RBW] Re: Did anyone get one of the new Acorn Bags yesterday?

2023-12-13 Thread Jon Craig (Vendraen)
My wife and I each have a "Boxy Rando" bag from back in 2016, during the
time when they used snaps and didn't put their logo patch on the bags. We
love those bags, and it was time for me to get a bag for the back of my
bike, instead of using my Ortlieb panniers. So I waited for the Large
Saddlebag to become available and bought one. It arrives today! I'm
exited.

Re: [RBW] Using Your Rivendell Vs. Being Precious: A Spectrum

2023-12-08 Thread Jon Craig (Vendraen)
Man just USE your bikes! I read this blog post a while ago and was like
"WTF, people will drop a minimum of 2.5k on a bike and not ride it!?!? -
must be NICE to have that kind of cash!"

Bikes are meant to be ridden.  Rivendells will stand up to just that;
they're very much made for it.

And seriously, if you can afford to have a Rivendell to not use it...
share? :D

2023-11-16 Thread Jon Craig (Vendraen)
Eh, I'm really thinking of going back to a drop bar of some sort - there's
1000 of them out there, and it seems ones with shallower drops and
mid to high flare are going to make the drops usable. And I probably want
something with a longer ramp for even more position variability. There are
just. so. many. bars. now.

[RBW] YAHT (Yet Another Handlebar Thread) :D

2023-11-16 Thread Jon Craig (Vendraen)
I have a 2016 Sam, from the batch of completes that year. I love the bike,
and now that I'm riding a lot more (my wife was gifted with being able to
ride again after not being able to for years; she has a '16 Sam too), I
swapped bars from the stock (Nitto Noodle) to an Albastache.

The Noodle was only giving me ONE hand position, on the hoods. The drops
didn't feel usable to me and the flats are just too narrow for my comfort.
The hoods position was putting a lot of pressure on the meaty part of my
hands behind the thumbs.

The 'Stache fixes that and gives me a lot of hand positions - on the
"hoods" (but it's a big flat on the 'Stache of course), behind them, and
pretty much all along the rest of the bar. I like it, but...

I do miss the hand position that only comes from having a drop bar on being
on those hoods in that orientation; I just need one that will put them in a
spot that doesn't put all the weight on the meaty-hand-part behind the
thumbs.

I have to admit I also miss how the bike looks with a drop bar. O_o I
dunno, I guess the bike just "wants" that look, to me.

I'd also like to not run the shifters as barend shifters... So I'd go
thumbie or some type of (S DON'T TELL GRANT) brifter.

The other issue I don't have access to the funds that some others around
here seem to. :) These bikes were EXPENSIVE to us ($2,600 a pop and we've
added front and rear racks, fenders, etc.)

Ideas, comments, questions, help, etc, etc? I'm sure lots around here have
Sams and have done this handlebar/cockpit rodeo lots of times!

[RBW] Re: Has anyone else tried the new Riv seat?

2023-11-14 Thread Jon Craig (Vendraen)
Huh - I'm curious. Did you ever have the black plastic one they included
with the 2016 Sam completes? If so, how does it compare?

Do these work with Silver-1 shifters? I don't have -2's, I have -1s.

Yeah, the Riv ones I knew about. 90 bucks just to mount shifters is really
expensive, though. I was hoping there was another option LOL. Maybe some
will come up used.

[RBW] Options for converting Silver-1 barend shifters to thumbies?

2023-11-11 Thread Jon Craig (Vendraen)
So what options exist for converting Silver-1 barend shifters to thumbies?
That don't cost a fortune - $60-$70 per shifter seems just crazy honestly.
Is there anything more reasonable?

Dave - thanks so much! I'll do some measuring!

Also let me know how you like the different lever position! I'm intrigued!

[RBW] Bag options on an Albastache bar?

2023-11-09 Thread Jon Craig (Vendraen)
So I'm wondering what my options are for bags on an Albastache setup. I
currently have a Mark's rack with an Acorn Bags boxy Random, but I'd rather
run something like a Ron's Bikes Fabio's Chest. Has anyone done this? Is it
possible?!?!? :)
