[RBW] Re: tubeless tire repair & maint Q

2019-11-19 Thread Kellie
•if using Stan's it's recommended you occasionally clean out rim and tire•I
don't carry a tube around town, just extra sealant (2 oz.), but on a long
ride or overnights I carry a tube too (and a repair kit) •I always carry
tire plugs and a toolkit • sealant here (San Francisco) lasts about 6
months, then I just add another 2 oz. by removing the valve core.

[RBW] Re: Recommendations on cycling to Rivendell and around San Francisco and the Bay Area

2019-09-16 Thread Kellie
Butterlap is a ride through and around SF that takes you to different area
of SF (Embarcadero, Fisherman's warf, Presidio, Land's End, Golden Gate
park). It's a loop with places to stop for food, coffee or bring your own.
Just Google "BUTTERLAP," or search Strava, Ridegps, etc.

Re: [RBW] Re: 26” tire advice

2019-07-17 Thread Kellie Stapleton
Hi Toshi: I’m using Velocity Cliffhangers which are tubeless compatible. I
ordered a kit (sealant, tubeless valves and tape) from Stan’s No Tubes to
complete the tubeless process. You’ll fill the tires with sealant, and then
again about every 6 months. If you start to get a flat the sealant will seal
it, unless it’s a gash on you sidewall. So, theoretically you never need a
inner tube, but You ALWAYS carry one, in case. Some people prefer Orange
sealant but I’ve had no problems with Stan’s. I got my first flat before I went
tubeless on the Thunder Burts, on the street, then switched and never looked
back. There’s good videos “on how,” on the Stan’s website; also WTB and
probably all over YouTube.

[RBW] Re: advice on 26x2.0 tires

I've had Thunder Burts on my Atlantis which I really loved. Wanted to try
the Rat Trap Pass, which I love even more, especially on streets. They're
considered a gravel tire and I have used them off-road; great there too.

mirror on for +$75 (but don't need it, can run Zwift on phone or laptop,
just a BIGGER experience). $400

The Eastbay Skyline Trail is
here:
http://gurmeet.net/hiking/hikes/East_Bay_Skyline_National_Recreation_Trail.html
Gives a lot of info about the trail divided into 4 sections from Wildcat
Canyon Park in Richmond to Cabot Lake. All DIRT. I haven't ridden all of
it, but if someone does please give a report. Gives trailheads and places
to park, water, photos, etc.

to hear about the area for a lot of reasons. Let me know how you like it.

Bill: from your start ride to Union City Blvd. and cut in at Eden shores.
>From there a NO CAR route, some of it gravel, all the way to High St. in
Oakland. Depending on how many miles you want there's bailout Bart stations
all the way to Richmond. The trail I'm suggesting skirts the Bay with
beautiful wetlands to ride through. That'll be about 25 miles (maybe more)
one way to Fruitvale Station.

[RBW] Re: Did you stop using Compass tires?

2018-01-31 Thread Kellie
So entertaining to read everyone's comments I didn't understand
really what "supple" was until I rode RTP EL. I have 26" wheels, but I
think a big part of my happiness with them is I set them up tubeless (on
Cliffhanger rims). I ride 3/4 pavement; they're wonderful. The 1/4 dirt;
they're wonderful. Rear tire about 28#, front a little less on pavement.
Heard tell to drop some air on dirt, but I keep it the same. No flats. Had
Thunder Burts before, loved them on dirt especially. Talk about difficult
to mount-it was crazy hard. Anyways I give a Big thumbs up to RTP.

[RBW] Re: Tubeless Maintenance

2018-01-21 Thread Kellie
I find tubeless to be psychologically rewarding. Nothing better than riding
an overpass filed with glass residue throughout the bike lane with a "no
worries" attitude. Everything has a learning curve and once you've got that
down it's just topping off fluids as necessary.

Here's a much more packable drip coffee maker. This photo from Ocean Air
Cycles, where you can purchase it from. The cone totally collapses; becomes
flat, and it weighs next to nothing. I also use a Clever Coffee maker (2nd
photo), looks much like yours but it's more like a french press where you
let the water steep and when you* put it on top of your cup* it pours out.
Order from Sweet Maria's in Oakland. Both use filters, easier to clean than
an Aeropress.
