group.  Nothing Will get resolved.  We have differing opinions and everyone is 
right.   There are heated arguments over bikes on this group.  This issue will 
not be resolved on the Rivendell Owners Bunch.

what happens.   This will probably not end well.

This post will probably get the thread shutdown. 

The reason I said politics is because the definition of politics is the art or 
science of Government.  This is a matter of government not Rivendell bikes. 

This issue was not created by the United States, it was created by people who 
violate the laws of the United States and enter the United States ilegally.  It 
is a fact that over 80% of the minors that enter the country illegally, and the 
reason they are detained, is because they cross the border illegally without 
their parents. Therefore,  the United States does not have parents to keep them 
with.  It has been reported by the Border Patrol that children who were sent by 
their parents to cross the United States border illegally possess the Plan B 
pill because their parents expect their child to be raped.   The parents are 
the inhumane party for this issue.  

When a parent crosses the border illegally, the parents violates the law and is 
arrested. When someone is arrested they are detained in jail. A person cannnot 
keep their child with them in jail; this includes United States citizens.  For 
example, if a person and his or her spouse are arrested, their child is put 
into government custody. 

This is not a Trump, Obama, or Bush issue as this has occurred under all three 
administrations. Many of the pictures of children in cages were under the Obama 
administration.  The first pictures shown recently by the media were actually 
during the Obama administration. This has been previously reported by the 
Washington post in 2014 and from a Senate report in 2014. 

This is an issue created by people who do not respect the laws of the United 
States. If you do not want your child to be separated from you then do not 
violate the laws of the United Statea and be put in jail.  

Getting into politics at the present time, this issue has been magnified  
because of an upcoming election to help a political party.  The political party 
does not want this resolved because it needs to be a issue for the upcoming 
election.  A quote from the Senator Chuck Schumer, “Wants to Keep Focus on 
Trump.”   Senator Schumer does not want to pass legislation because this needs 
to be an issue for the upcoming election. This is not humane.

That is a great deal on the bike Friday tandem in Bismarck, ND.  Since he is 
selling his parents, I don’t think the seller understands the value. 

I had a bike friday takedown tandem that went into travel cases.  It rode fine, 
but didn’t have the complete feel like a “regular size” bike.  The take down 
takes about an hour and the learning curve will get it faster over time.  

If you have the money, might as well give it a try and enjoy life.

I forgot to note.  People ask me how I lost weight.   I tell them I eat high 
fatty low carb foods and ride a bike once a week for two hours.  They look at 
me like I AM from Mars. I think they are expecting me to work out everyday for 
hours and hours.  I explain ketosis and what is involved in Keto and it then 
makes sense.  

Also, if someone reading this wants to try it the biggest help is you may have 
to suffer a few days until you go into ketosis.  You also need to plan your 
meals so you don’t fall off the wagon by grabbing whatever because you are not 
prepared. Finally, it takes mental willpower for a while to get over the sugar 
carb cravings. It is all in your head.

Thanks for posting.  I was going to post about being on the EBDJ or Keto or 
low carb diet and might as well piggyback on yours.  

January 2017, I was at 223 pounds after Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I read 
EBDJ and followed it strict for one year and lost 40 pounds.  I am now 185 
pounds.  I am back to the weight I was for most of my adult life.  People 
tell me I am loosing too much weight and my response is I am back to what I 
should be.   I have plateaued between 183 and 187 and this is where I want 
to me.  

I found my body was made for a low carb diet.  I eat lots of eggs and 
cheese.  I don't miss the breads and don't get cravings for them.  I never 
realized how my body felt with the carbs and until I reduced them and went 
into ketosis.  The best part is I am rarely hungry and no more gas.  

Once and a while I will have ice cream with the kids.  Besides this I plan 
sticking with this lifestyle.  I don't call it a diet because it sounds 
like something I am trying for awhile.

[RBW] What do Rivendell Riders use for minimalist dress and biking shoes?

I wear Soft Star Hawthorne to work for Business Casual.  They are made in the 
USA. They are higher end on price, but very well made and can be resolved. Soft 
Star also makes running shoes. I do not have to wear a suit to work so don't 
have to worry about dress shoes.

For a shoes, I wear vivobarefoot or Xero.  I also have a pair of Xero sandals.  
Xero makes mostly sandals, but make one or two pair of shoes.  Vivobarefoot 
also makes more business casual shoes along with street type shoes.


I wear flat shoes with no arch or heel because I have a high arch and a heeled 
shoes hurts the top of my foot.  It is good that minimal shoes because more 
popular so I have something to wear.

Nexus 8 Internal Gear Hub Wheel set.  Not sure if the RBW Bunch is the 
correct audience, but you never know.  The hub is the “red band” model 
number SG-8R36.  The hub is laced on Sun Rims Rhyno Lite size 26”. Comes 
with shifter.  The front wheel is an older Shimano hub that just says 
“Shimano via” on it.  Front rim is also a Sun Rims Rhyno Lite size 26”.   
If you want just the Nuxes hub and not the front, I can make that work.  
Price is $250.  If you want to tires above to go along you are ready to 
ride and will get a discount.


Inolight 10+ and Top Light Plus - $50


Ortlieb Back Roller Plus panniers.  I think they are from 2010.  They have 
some discoloration, but in fine condition.  Plenty of life left $90 (These

Nitto Choco-NORM Bar and Nitto Stem (12cm)  - $105

I measured the stem from middle of clamp to middle of bolt to get 12cm.   I 
would like to sell together.  I will wait a little before I break up.  The 
handlebar has a little dot impression on each side from tightening down a 
grip shifter.  One of the dots is shown on a picture.

 

Nitto Water Bottle Cages $65 for both or $35 each.

I am not sure if these are the R or 80.  I will on the safe side and go 
with R.

[RBW] FS: 64cm Sam Hillborne

Selling my 64cm Sam Hillborne.  It is Waterford built and has canti posts.  
I am selling because I have come to the realization that it is too big for 
me.  It is pretty and I love it, but I can love something else.

Please let me know and I can send you a link for more pictures.


The frame has a few nicks here and there as expected.  There is are small 
dents on the chainstays from the kickstand being ratcheted down too much.  
The rear triangle was a little out of alignment, but I had a frame builder 
put in back in alignment.  It was not off much.  I can take pictures of any 
specific you want, even all of the nicks.  


I am willing to sell complete or frame/fork/headset only.  I prefer to sell 
the fame only, but will sell complete if that is what the buyer wants.   
Frame/Fork/Headset only is $700 shipped.  Complete is $1300 shipped 
(hopefully it would all fit in the box).

My opinion is the Atlantis, AHH, Rodeo, and Hunqapillar are made in small 
batches by I believe Waterford.  This is why it may take 4 months to get one. 
Rivendell has specific buyers already on order with a deposit.  They don't have 
to worry about over ordering.  They can still offer these bikes without too 
much worry on supply chain because they are a guaranteed sell when ordering.

The other bikes made in Taiwan are ordered in larger batches and why they do 
the pre order.  Rivendell is ordering the Taiwan bikes with out having all 
specific buyers.  They are taking a chance of selling them all.

Up for sale are my B67 Aged and Bosco Bullmoose Bar.  I am selling the bike 
they are on and I try not to be a parts hoarder.  

The bosco is in fine shape and has one small mark that i can see.  I am not 
sure if it is 54cm or 58cm.  When measuring from inside to inside I get 
about 54.  When measuring from middle to middle I get about 58cm.  If you 
know to they are measured, I can give a precise measurement.

The B67 has a little bit of a color discoloration and a scratch at the 
rear.  You can see this in the pictures

I should have explained that better.  I definitely need 700c with the hub at 
135mm spacing.  From there rims that will fit at least a 45mm tire.  With 
specific hubs or rims, I prefer American made, but I know other hubs parts 
sourced in Taiwan are quality.  I am not set on a specific brand, a wheelset 
put together to what is equal or lesser value to what I am asking for the 
Quickbeam.  I know value is subjective with age, use, who built them, etc, but 
I hope you understand what I am getting at.  Please let me know  if you have 
any other questions.

I bought the Quickbeam about two years off the list.  It has beausage that 
it came with.  I did the best I could to reflect it the pictures (link

I just got frame straightened to perfect and the kickstand plate welded. 
 The frame was off about 3-4mm and the kickstand place had a tear.

I am buying a Sam Hillborne, so I am now selling my Quickbeam frame in stead of 
trading.  I went from Quickbeam to Sam to Quickbeam and now back to Sam.  The 
cycle of life.  I am going to a 80s road bike for a fixed and use the Sam as my 
cruiser.  I found it is easier to ride a geared bike with the kids and will 
used the fixed road as my go fast "exercise" bike...if that makes sense.  

Price is $700 shipped for frame/fork/headset.

It only has the 40t chainring and bashguard.  It DOES NOT have the small inner 
ring. Pedals are not included. It has wear and scraps on the bottom and the 
baah guard has a small scrape on the edge.  It tried to get it on one of the 
pictures but tough.

Not sure how to exactly price it without through ring and its shape.  How about 
$50 shipped.

[RBW] Bottom Bracket Use Help

I need 2mm more spindle length on a White Industries Bottom Bracket I want to 
use on my Quickbeam.

Is there danger to use a 2mm spacer that there is not enough thread to the 
shell?  

I figure it is since spacers are sold.  I called WI and said 1mm is OK 2mm is a 
little too much.  It sounded like they were being over cautious in our sue 
happy culture. 

I don't want to buy a new BB and trying to be cheap.
