So I was wondering, does it stick out on yours, or is it just that way in
that pic they have on the site?

One of my favorite features of Riv bikes are the shot-glasses - the
pretty stack of headset spacers. I don't want to ruin the line.

Maybe I am just cork grip sniffing about this, but it's one of the things
I find beautiful on these bikes.

So just want to know how it really is so I can stop mulling and either
get one, or wait until they start selling one with a uniform outer diameter
 for 1 spacers.

Didn't they have one with an aluminum (silver colored) bell on it once?
That would be a nice match for all the silver color on these bikes.

Thanks for the kind words, I try to keep my cool at all times but was so
bummed to miss a beautiful weekend riding since its just been super hectic
at work lately and being out in the woods here the lack of a good LBS
sucks. My new local is closed at 2 on Saturday all day sunday Monday and
Tuesday, its a great little operation but finding the time in my schedule
to get out there is impossible. Thanks for the reply Grant, sorry if I was
inelegant, its unfortunately my nature, no amount of smacks to the back of
the head from my mom will change me it seems. I did tear apart the spare
parts bin looking for a skewer tonight and all I came up with was a couple
of janky looking steel front skewers and I need a rear 135mm. I have some
time tomorrow and will call up RBW and work it out. (I never know whether
to directly respond to you-grant and RBW employees on the list or not so
will just call). If they could send along a Hermes handbag as well that
would make my wife happy too, hahaha.

shipping and (WORST OF ALL) more waiting. Obviously the OP is in a
situation where he can't just run out to get a QR so that magnifies the
frustration of things not showing up as expected. Yes, I think the
frustration was expressed a little more crudely than necessary, but I also
think we should cut the guy some slack. He paid for something and waited
and when it showed up it was not what he expected. These things do happen
of course and you just need to deal with them without losing your cool. He
wanted to ride and couldn't and it doesn't sound like he has a ton of free
 time to just ride whenever.

Peter, I am sorry your wheel didn't arrive as expected. That sucks and
must be super disappointing. Call Riv and see what they say. In my
experience they will take care if it and be more sorry about it than you.
They are great people and will make it right. Hang in there it will get
 resolved.

Problem is there's already two 650b bikes in the family, and I've gotten
quite comfortable with that wheel size, have parts to boot, and there's a
lot more 650b products coming. I've also convinced myself that given my
long torso, the cockpit might be a bit small and just a little less
 comfortable on a long haul.
I'd be all over the Bombadil 52, which has the requisite 650b and longer
top tube and seems at least a slightly better fit for me, but I'm not yet
sure I can excuse myself for spending another grand (and it may take a bit
 longer to accumulate that).
I doubt there's any difference in the sturdiness of these bikes. It all
comes down to fit and comfort over long distances and occasionally very
rough roads; I would hope sheer looks don't count for more than 10
percent, but I'm told the new Bombadil 52s have the rear tentacles.
Those familiar with Hunqs and Boms, think I'll see a difference in

I Love Love my bombadil but lets be serious, for another $500 you get full
custom any way you like it so if you are gonna go all out, go all out and
go full custom.

I've thought long and hard about this exact thing for myself and I've come
to two conclusions. One is to just pony up and get the Bombadil. For me,
being smaller, the 48cm Bombadil would fit very nicely and would still give
me 650b tires. Two would be to get a custom Riv...mountain mixte with 650b
wheels and fancy lugs. Tough enough to singletrack, but not too heavy to
 get up hills.

The Hunq would certainly work well, and I don't feel that 26 wheels would
be a terrible choice in a mountain bike. I've ridden those for decades and
the wheel size has always seemed to work. But, it would be nice to roll on
a little bit bigger tire and I already have two sets of 650b wheels in the
house. Plus I think a custom riv would be the bomb.

nearly new, and a used old-style 2TT 56cm Bombadil (no dents, but a lot of

*least* one day extra over Ground. I've had Smartpost packages from the
REI warehouse in PA to my home 100 miles a way take a week. I've told REI
what I thought of these services . .. lol. With regular UPS packages take
 2 days.

My take . . . . every retailer BE upfront of all methods of shipping and
the extra time involved. Just because someone offers free shipping, does
not mean I the consumer must just be thankful and put up with it . Free
shipping is never truly free, costs are built into the pricing of
everything in total and having a certain minimum to qualify is a way to
entice a customer to spend more than they had intended, but are lured by
 the I qualify ! and free carrots ! Oh. . the retail games !! It's a
psychological game :) All of it !

That's the description for Trek's race fit. I'm actually surprised that
this frame is not offered in the more relax H2 fit - H2 features a
slightly higher head tube to put less strain on your back and neck. It's
the right way to get most riders, including many of our Pro Team riders, in
the right place. With no need for high-rise stems or spacer stacks, the
 look is nothing but pro.

Interestingly, the H2 fit actually gets the bar up nice and high! My
buddies who have recently bought Madones all have H2 fitting. I'm actually
surprised Trek doesn't offer this fit for this frame as the price point is
aimed at those who have money to burn and are more likely to go with the H2
 fit. Good Luck!

Its just such an odd listing, no details. Bike either power washed or left
out in the rain with the brooks on to take the pics. Strange setup on the

Also selling a Pashley, which is the third of three items listed.

I have to say my new LBS is great. Lots of steel, some CF of course but if
you want to try a bike they say, hey we will dial it in how you want, go
for a few hour ride and see how it feels. That's the part of buying a bike
I never got, how looking at it and standing over it or even a 5 minute ride
around the block could make you sure you want to put down 3-5k on this
thing. When I buy a car its 3-4 test drives for at least half an hour each.

 my-way-is-thee-way as thee-best-way.

Agree, a shop is in the business of selling bikes. If it is that narrow
minded to put on a buyer on the wrong bike, then I doubt that bike shop is
going to be in business for very long. My LBS has been around since
1975. The owner is one of the best fitters in the SF Bay Area. But he sells
all types of bikes. He has the latest carbon Time, Looks, Bianchis and
Giants. He also sells the new Albion and other steel bikes from
custom (formerly US distributor for Ron Cooper to Della Santa to the latest
from the new Masi, Soma and Waterford). He also has a wall full of
 Colnagos including steel and carbon.

But, the key is to put you on the type of bike that you will ride! If it
means putting you the latest 14lb carbon wonder bike with your bar dropped
6 inches below the saddle and 11-23 11speed cassette, done. If you want a
steel bike with bars higher than your saddle and 13-34 gearing with a
triple, done! If you're a fat guy, like me (e.g., 200lb) and want carbon,
no problem. But he's give you a compact crank (50/34) and low gearing
(11-28; 12-30) to help you get up the hill. He will also raise dat bar
when needed! Whatever works to get you on the road and enjoying your bike!
  Good Luck!

Is it really ? Compared to who ? My choices work for me, if someone
wishes to emulate that in some way, great. If not, great .

Would I like if I had business selling bikes, have customers
discouraging potential customers from buying my bikes ? . . . I think not
 !

There are many facets to the Golden Rule ! The shop owner qualifies as
someone whom I wish well for also , not just a customer I think is being
taken advantage of. Vengeance and self-righteousness can be very subtle ,
like a calm sea masking the tsumani within it.

All THAT said . .. lol . . . there is no absolute right or wrong
answer, just infinite ways of answering . This, is Life.

[RBW] FS Carsick Panniers, ETC.

2014-06-26 Thread Peter Morgano
Hey all I have yet more stuff for sale and my wife and mom said to try and
make it one big trip tomorrow to the post office.

FS is the amazing Carsick Panniers Ron sold me. I mounted them up, took one
ride and realized I don't like panniers, they made me feel too wide riding
in traffic. They are in brand new shape, used 3-4 times by ron and once by
me, no stains, comes with shoulder straps, beautiful. Selling for what I
paid $200 shipped OBO.

http://www.carsickdesigns.com/collections/panniers/products/waxed-canvas-pannier-set-gray-with-black

I also still have the DLG poster in box, I hate to see it just doing
nothing for years, $25 shipped. and the pink jagwire set, $30 shipped for
a whole bike (MTB cables).

I also have a 26 Phil Wood front wheel, nice and smooth, $65 shipped.

All proceeds go towards my kids summer camp fund, oh how expensive it is.

riding in traffic. They are in brand new shape, used 3-4 times by ron and
once by me, no stains, comes with shoulder straps, beautiful. Selling for
what I paid $200 shipped OBO.

 http://www.carsickdesigns.com/collections/panniers/products/waxed-canvas-pannier-set-gray-with-black
