[RBW] Re: BMX Nostalgia

2020-06-02 Thread Taz Taylor
Doug - what class did you race and how long?

I raced in Griffin, Powder Springs and Peachtree City in 1980 and '81. 16
and up beginner, then 16/over novice for me. Mostly rode a Mongoose but
had a Redline towards the latter days.

[RBW] FS: Berthoud GB25 Front Bag, Brooks Cambium C-13

2018-09-03 Thread Taz Taylor

For sale: As new Berthoud GB25 in French Blue. $185 plus shipping
(approx. $10)

I bought this but then went in a different direction using a Rivendell
Sackville bag and Nitto F15 instead of the GB and a decaleur.

So this bag is completely unused and unmodified, never installed.

Brooks Cambium C-13 132 with carbon rails. Mounted and ridden briefly
(less than 10 miles). $135 plus shipping.

Tried to install on my older French touring bike with a Laprade seat post
but the clamp wasn't compatible. (then discovered that locating a decent
26.6 seat post wasn't the easiest so stuck with my B-17). Works fine with
the modern Campy and Thomson seat posts I tested.

May have a matching set of Berthoud handlebar and saddle bags (gray)
available in near future. These are used so I'll need take some pics.

Thanks,

Taz in ATL

Re: [RBW] Re: PSA: Richard Sachs(!) Rivendell on CL

2017-08-12 Thread Taz Taylor
Having sold 3 Richard Sachs frames (and traded another), I'm inclined to
agree with Doug and Ryan. Very pretty frame but still only a Richie
brazed Riv custom. Curt and Mark also extremely nice frames.

This is my size - I recently had a chance to pick up a newer Sachs for
$1700 - and I would say that's probably about the value of this bike. The
parts are decent but nothing special. If I were to buy, I'd ask the seller
to strip to frame/fork/headset before shipping.

Re: [RBW] Re: Dyno hub wiring

2017-08-04 Thread Taz Taylor
I've bought two French built rando/touring bikes and they both had internal
wiring from a hole at the back of the bottom bracket to a small hole just
beneath the bottom head lug.

The wire was then run through the underside of the fender to the taillight
and the front rack mounted headlight, held by small dabs of epoxy.

Although the dynamo was mounted on the chainstays (a Sanyo tire dynamo),
this routing would work for a front hub dynamo also, although you'd also
need a small entrance and exit hold on the fork as well. The hole required
is no larger than a typical brazing vent hole so I wouldn't be concerned
about strength, but I would have a pro or very experienced bike mechanic do
it.
